  1. Yikes! That doesn't look good!! Today is the 1st day I have felt "normal" in 2 weeks. I keep doing what needs to be done but whooo it was a struggle!
Hope every one starts to feel better to.

  2. Hiker, glad you are better. Seems like everyone is going through something. Allergies, colds, flu and other health issues. Our dear Froggy seems to get knocked on her keister every few weeks and so does Phoo. My desire is for all my friends to be healthy and that goes for me too.

Looks to be a nice sunny day. Hope to get outside to take in some vitamin D.

Last Sat. a lady stopped by - Elizabeth Scott who is running for State House in our district. I said No, sorry I am very loyal to Kirk Pearson and will vote for him. She tells me he is running for State Senate. We only need a few more of each to change the legislature in our state. There is hope in Washington State this year!!!!!

    1. Some days it seems impossible to find more Republicans to run for any government seats. But we need more! It's bad to allow the government to get out of whack with just one party. That's the first thing I look for when the ballots come...which one's are Republicans? I really hate when they put "undecided" or something like that. Pick a party, dude!

  3. Gosh, I know what you mean, Hiker. Sometimes, I don't think other people understand what it means to be sick when you can't stop everything and take care of yourself. Thank goodness for the people here at the Pond! Just to have sympathetic ears means so much. I love my husband, but for the 4 months I didn't feel "normal" and still got up every morning and took care of the house, the cats, and him, meant he didn't understand how much trouble I had doing it. Life doesn't stop when you don't feel well. There are still car problems, plumbing problems, bank account mistakes, decisions to be made and deadlines to keep track of. Bless him, my husband's response to everything was "I have to go to work every day. You can handle it."

The first week in June, I'm going home to Georgia to visit my Dad and see that precious great nephew of mine. 20 months old and just got his first haircut! This seems like the first thing I've looked forward to all year and it involves the annoyance of flying across country. Yuck.

Well, that's my rant for the morning. I echo Hiker's wish for everyone to be feeling better starting...... NOW!

    1. Eva, you are so lucky to have such a loving hubby. I know what you mean about the chores are still there....waiting. ometimes whn Froggy or I don't feel good, we say that chores can wait one more day. Just go ahead and rest.

How long since you've been to Georgia to see family? Do you like the West Coast better? The East Coast is pretty, but I can't handle the humidity.

(I am copying all my messages this evening. Don't want the mean email-monster to snatch 'em before they are posted!)

  4. With all the sickness in this pond... how does one change the water?
Maybe Gerty has been flying overhead. Nevermind!!, I just slapped my own wrist.
Anyway, Good morning dear ladies. Sure miss my Froggy!

  5. Phooey, that was funny! I was going to suggest that everyone stay out of the Pond for a few days. Maybe just relaxing in the cattails along the side of Pond. Get a little sun.

  6. I'll drain the pond tonight--everyone one on the beach! Wrap up an extra fish for the cats. Gad, I'm so sick I could die... Please keep things going--and don't bring any mud into the clubhouse!

    1. Don't you dare drain the Pond! I like the Pond just as it is. We can be honest about our highs and our lows.

Frog and Phoo, when I was on the flight from Salt Lake City to OKC, I tried to take a nap. Couldn't really fall asleep as you were both on my heart. So, I bunched up my coat as a pillow, closed my eyes, and silently prayed for both of you. Prayed about a lot of other things, too, but it started praying for Froggy and Phooey. Love both of you. Smoochers.

  7. Here's a little ray of sunshine for my Pond mates. The trip to Berkeley was fabulous. Mike has a Band of Brothers. They've been best friend all through college, are from all over the world, live on the same floor in the same apartment building. It was wonderful to meet them all in person. It amazed me to see how close they are and how they really take care of each other. They are truly brothers, and I bet they will remain life-long friends.

The commencement was also incredible. 3200 graduates! It took 2 hours to call each one by name to come onto the stage, officially graduate, and change their tassle from right to left. All we parents sitting around each other had plenty of time to get to know each other. We all stood up and cheered when each other's kid was called.

Parents of one of Mike's Band of Brothers treated all the Brothers, parents and a grandparent to dinner at The Claremont Hotel (very fancy schmansy). We had a champagne toast to the Brothers, ate FABULOUS food, talked and laughed and took gobs of pictures.

My favorite part was Mike and I being together. We ate all kinds of ethnic food from little restaurants, went shopping. We worked on our geneaology together. Two of his Brothers are from Norway. My great-grandfather immigrated from Norway. We hit a brick wall in the search, but I have letters from my great-grandfather's family back there. I'll get them out this weekend, send copies to Mike, and hope we can find more info about that branch of the family.

We were able to trace my grandfather on my mother's side all the way back to 1606 in Derbyshire, England! I've always been fascinated with the DAR, and found out my 9th great-grandfather fought in the Revolutionary War (at the age of 50). His name was John Bagley. I can join the DAR now!

One other thing ... Mike wrecked his right ankle and spent half the day Sunday in the ER. That's a another story in itself! One of his Norwegian Brothers, Vajaar (the babe magnet) drove him (I was "instructed" to keep working on the family tree). Vajaar managed to get names and phone numbers of 3 nurses. When Mike was waiting for Vajaar to bring the car around, a nurse ran to her car to put on lipstick then ran back ... kissed Mike's cast and wrote down her name and phone number. Hey, they're 22!

It was a wonderful time. Mike's plans to leave for Korea in a couple of weeks have changed. He is instead going to teach English in Manila, and doesn't leave until August. Here's what made me cry: "Mom, can you get another couple of days off work? I want to see you again when it isn't finals week and graduation week. Would you PLEASE come to see me again?"

I honestly don't know why God let me be this young man's mother, but I am eternally grateful. I've rambled on too long! SMOOCHES

    2. Surfie, what a wonderful and newsy post. Loved reading about the graduation adventure, and about your son and his friends. Incredible experience. If you think of any more, just keep writing.

I have worked with Filipino people on several jobs, but never picked up speaking Tagalog.

Phooey, You had me curious. I had to look up the website you suggested. Extremely interesting about the Balut. Would make a good scary movie, kind of like Jeepers Creepers or The Grudge.

    3. Phooey, I'm sending both of those links to my son. The balut should be (might have been) an adventure of Anthony Bourdain! My son, Mike, is a very adventurous young man and I'll bet he will eat balut once he gets to Manila. Thanks for the links.

  8. What a wild time, Surfie! What's Mike going to do between now & Manila in August? What does his fiancee think about the change in plans? When you think about the fact that he's a graduate, can you believe it? Even though you went there and saw it happen? Must have been the best Mom moment thus far!

Phooey, yay, no more throwing up. My Dad was based in the Philippines during WWII.

Froggy, it's up to you now to sound the all clear. You MUST get well!

'Wog, I was home in January. Joe & I start off in New York with his family for Christmas and then wind our way down to Georgia for the New Year. That's our usual run, but once my niece had the little one, I was flying back about every 3-4 months. I would have been back in March or April again if it hadn't been for this damn cold/bronchial thing. I'm an east coast girl for sure, but the humidity is a killer.

It's late. Puffin is sitting on the kitchen table waiting for me to carry him to bed. Such a spoiled baby. We're off. See ya'll in the morning :)
