Deer Pond Family, we all have someone who joined the military and who did not come back. Here is some background that I copied from Wikipedia...
Memorial Day is a federal holiday in the United States for remembering the people who died while serving in the country's armed forces. The holiday, which is observed every year on the last Monday of May, originated as Decoration Day after the American Civil War in 1868, when the Grand Army of the Republic, an organization of Union veterans founded in Decatur, Illinois, established it as a time for the nation to decorate the graves of the war dead with flowers. By the 20th century, competing Union and Confederate holiday traditions, celebrated on different days, had merged, and Memorial Day eventually extended to honor all Americans who died while in the military service. It typically marks the start of the summer vacation season, while Labor Day marks its end.
No, our Deer Froggy is not home yet, but she wanted me to put up something special for Memorial Day. No one has said when they will send her home, but I feel that it may be next week. In the meantime, the 'WOG needs to do the dishes, vacuum, and pick up things. Don't know how one person (me!) can make such a mess.
Trump just keeps "trumping" along. The Dems don't realize how much free advertising they are giving a man they don't want to win. If you counted every time you hear the name "Trump" on TV, in the newspaper, etc., it would be hundreds (maybe thousands) of times an day.
Interesting project...won't take long... Go to CNN, and count how many times you hear the name Trump in five minutes! And how many times do you hear the name Hillary in five minutes. Also note that they refer to Hillary by her first name; very seldom is she referred to as Clinton or Mrs. Clinton.
If Hillary won, would she be called President Clinton or President Hillary...or just The Hill?
Many people will vote for a name they know. Everyone, literally, knows the name Trump! EVERYONE KNOWS! You don't even hear the name Hillary unless it's in connection with Trump.
Hi Wog and Froggy. Happy Decoration Day or Memorial Day, which ever you choose. I am so grateful for this small group of friends and to the Frog that made it possible. As I have said before even if I don't post I still read. So thankful for your prayers. I finally have the freedom to share some of what has been going on in my life. My anxiety and stress level have been sky high for far to long.
Phooey, to us here in the Pond you are so important.
Surfie, love your weekly updates. I hpoe your company knows what a jewel you are.
My granddaughter Grace is graduating next week. I call her the sweetest girl in the world. Her grades and SATs were high enough to get her a 4 year ride to Seattle Pacific U. God definitely has a plan for her. I will be in their town next weekend to help Val with the open house.
Okay, I have to tell y'all this.... Today is Page and my 50th wedding anniversary.
But really want to talk to Gloria. Dear Sister in Christ... Page and I have walked in your shoes regarding our Son on drugs. We have sheltered him a few times from broken relationships he was involved in and jobs he was fired from. Years ago we retired after my heart attack while living in the Asheville,NC area and wanted to sell our home and move back to Florida. My Son and his wife decided to move into our area over my protests that we were leaving. Page's maternal instincts kicked in so we stayed and Son and DIL moved in with us because he could not keep a job and would not even work around the house. There is more to this story but I'm feeling sick recalling the memories.
Dear Gloria, I know The Parable of the Prodigal Son and I know about maternal instincts and I believe God can and will give discernment. I will pray myself to tears on behalf of you and your family.
I was on phone to Froggy this evening after I got home from our visit. I read to her all the posts. She had some words for you Phooey.
"Congratulations on your and Miss Page's fifty years. What a special day to share with us. Phooey, you can really speak with a preacher's voice and a preacher's heart and with God's Spirit." And she wanted you to know, "Happy Anniversary Phooey and Miss Page. Special love to you both from all your Frogs at The Pond."
Phooey, about my son, one dear brother told me years back that I would come to a place that my son would cease to be a crown of thorns and begin to live up to his name. Stephen means crown. I am getting there by baby steps. Our kids are always our kids. Thank you for your kind words.
Steve's life and our life is like swiss cheese. There are big holes with parts of our lives missing. Only our Heavenly Father can restore it.
Happy Anniversary, Phooey and Page. May the Good Lord grant you many, many more!
Phooey and Gloria, what you have said about your children is exactly what my brother went through with his son. Like I said in the previous thread: there was enabling going on, then tough love, many trips to rehab, moving in and moving out, getting fired from jobs, lying ... you know the story. My nephew didn't get healed until he was nearly 40 years old. HE IS HEALED. Your children can step into the light, too.
You might not be able to believe a full recovery is possible. I will believe it for you because I've walked through it and seen it happen.
Yours truly is praying and believing and seeing the glorious day!
Frog wanted a Memorial Day discussion. I'm so emotional today, feeling grateful for the generations who came before who risked everything to create and keep this great country. Also feeling angry at our current president's apology tour to Japan. As a British reporter said, "If you don't want to get nuked, don't bomb Pearl Harbor."
I hope Donald Trump is our next president. I want America to be great again, as we have been in the past.
Deer Surfie, I worry every day about you and your precarious job. Will you be okay if the job closes?
Thank you for the words of encouragement for Gloria. Somehow, some way, Things always work out.
While I was on phone with Sis, she said "What a pathetic president we have. Doesn't it just make you sick?" I think Froggy's words point out the true problem with our government. Trump would be refreshing. He knows how to protect our borders. And he knows how to run a business, a successful business. Every country is a business. We can't be millions and billions of dollars in debt and survive. Trump, I'm sure, would bring back jobs to America; and they would be successful and grow. That's how our country would become strong and become a power in the world. No country is afraid of us. We look foolish!
Wog, we have generations that have been thought to think small, be a victim, blame some one else and be offended. Minimum wage used to be a starting point. Now people think it is the best they will do. That attitude takes away the desire to succeed.
Froggy had more to say; I just couldn't write fast enough.
"I love you all. I'm sorry that I can't write in very often. I do come by and read the posts."
I went to rehab place early today and got to see Froggy do her physical therapy. They had her walk using the parallel bars. She's working hard to come home.
Go Trump! Hillary better worry. Did you like my comments about Trump getting free advertising? What do you think?
I was talking to my father yesterday morning. He was so offended by Obama's trip to Hiroshima. He was on a troop ship as one of the many to be part of the Japan Invasion. When news of the bomb came on the loud speaker, a roar came out of those throats on board and the ship turned around in the middle of the ocean. My dad said they were all aware that they were probably on their way to lose their lives in the invasion. How many lives were saved due to that action? Untold. The Japanese would have saved more of their lives if they had surrendered then, but no, it took one more bomb to drop in Nagasaki. I couldn't take watching or even hearing about Obama's moral equivalence. How about remembering that we were attacked? How about making a trip to Pearl Harbor? I will be so glad when this man is gone!
A belated Happy 50th Anniversary to Phooey and his bride! A true feat in this day and age.
Surfie, your work roller coaster is really something. Good on you all for hanging in there.
Speaking of hanging in there: Froggy keep at it. I know you can do it.
'Wog, I tried my hand at gardening this last month for the first time ever! Not sure why I never did before except that city living didn't really help. I scattered flower seeds in the outdoor planter and darned if there aren't little green things coming up! Don't remember what kind of flowers I planted and I don't know when they'll bloom, but I'm excited.
Dearest Gloria, you and your family are in my heart and prayers. The fabric of life can be so difficult and exhausting. We all do our best with His help.
Hillary sure had a bad week! I can't imagine the FBI investigation falling short of what the State Dept. IG report said. Although it looks good for Trump, I won't breathe easy until she is completely ground down. I don't trust a Clinton farther than I can throw one! They are experts at not being held responsible for their actions.
Love you all. With respect, prayer, and complete gratitude to those who died for my freedom.
Hello Deer Eva, so kind of you to share story about your father and Japan. There are no words to describe Obama's stupidity...or is that the stupidity of all dems?
Love your gardening experience. It is a joy to watch the little seeds sprout and grow into a plant with beautiful flowers. Tell us more when they get bigger. I like to garden just because it gets me out of the house.
I was on phone to Froggy this evening. She gets lonesome. So I read your post to her. This made her laugh. "Hillary had a bad week." Hope she has more of them.

DeleteGloria, I am so proud of your granddaughter Grace. Isn't Seattle Pacific U in downtown Seattle. I think that it's not too far from where we live.
