I'm back and I missed all my Ponders so much!! My sister-in-law is now bionic (at least in one knee). It's unbelievable what modern medicine can do now. She watched the operation online before she went to the hospital (not sure I could do that) so that she'd know what was being done to her. She went in last Friday morning, was operated on at 11am, and was standing up that afternoon. Of course, she was loaded up with pain killers. She came home Monday afternoon and walked (using a walker) up 39 stairs to her apartment. Amazing!
I managed to take care of my mother- & father-in law with no major mishaps. My MIL got all her pills in the right order on the right days and never ate anything she wasn't supposed to. My SIL is so great that, before she left for the hospital, she gave me printouts of the pills schedule, the list of foods neither parent is supposed to go near, and a complete medical history of both! And let me say, that at age 92, it was several pages long. I also got a printout of phone numbers to call should any possible situation come up that I couldn't handle. She really made it easy for me.
The folks were on their best behavior, too. They were happy to see me (as I was them) and didn't see the opportunity of their daughter not being there to do things they know she wouldn't allow.
My moments of anxiety only had to do with emotions (my MIL would start to cry thinking about her daughter in surgery), my FIL's patience being tried after answering her question for the 5th time (I counted), and his decision to drive to the store to get the daily paper. That he can do, but he's so shaky, that I can't relax. I popped up and down all day every day and didn't sleep too well since I was alert for every sound.
I passed my first try at elder care and I'm soooo relieved to be home. I love them dearly and was terrified I'd hurt my MIL helping her up and down the stairs or that they'd find my presence intrusive. Well, it's done and I'm grateful that my SIL trusted me enough to let me help. I'll have to tell you about our political discussions in another post.
This is a long entry. I'll write more later after I do grocery shopping, etc.
Surfie, I can't tell you how happy I am to hear Karen came through her surgery so well! I thought about her and kept her in my prayers the entire time I was gone. Once she's home in her own bed, she'll really start to be her old self again. Fingers crossed for no complications.
Froggy, yay for the healing foot and hand! 'Wog, I confess to watching Honey Boo-Boo, too. I'm from Georgia and even I don't know what she's saying without the subtitles. And it's in English!! Very scary family.
Love you all and now I really have to go. Puffin was so happy to have me home last night that he didn't shut up. I have to get food to keep enticing Bambu to eat. Joe did his best while I was gone, but I can still feel every bone in his body.
We all missed you so much, Eva--you add so much to the Pond! You're a real angel to your kin (but then I've always known that God put you here for a special purpose). 'Woggy and I took care of Grandma during her lung cancer that took her so I know what you were up against. All her kids--my mom included--were down at the VFW drinking, so she really needed us. I was making out med charts and feeding her while 'Wog was going all over town getting her things she needed. She drove mom 6 hours back to home in Denver which was the biggest blessing in the world. Mom didn't have a particle of an idea how to take care of someone when they were sick...
Oh, and as long as you're up feeding Bambu and Puffin--come and feed this loudmouthed food machine; it goes off every 2 hours! (He's a real dollbaby, though--I'm getting awfully fond of him--even if I have to tell him 'no' a lot.) We call him our little Chowhog ;-)
Eva's back! Yay! May I be the first to welcome you back. Everyone will be so happy to hear from you. Sounds like you passed your elder-care with flying colors.
I'm at school doing accounting homework. Will be back at The Pond later this afternoon.
Hi, Phoobers! I feel the same way. I hate that jackass in the White House so much I think the debates would just make me nervous as a cat. I can't stand the sound of Zero's voice on the best of days...
I hope you and Ms. Page are doing well--still hot? We're having a real Indian Summer here, for sure. I can't remember the last time it rained. I always miss you.
Ms. Paget, how are you and are you going to watch the debates? You're missed here too, you know.
Quick note on the debate tonight: I'll watch because I can't NOT watch. That makes me even more nervous. Joe won't be home until 1/2 an hour into it. I think I'll keep up online and see what some of the live blogs (on our side) are saying. I think all the polls are bunk and Romney's been ahead all along. I'm sure tomorrow morning we'll read that Obama won the debate no matter what happens. I won't believe that either.
Welcome home Eva!!!! I just knew you'd do a great job dealing with everything you had on your plate!
I'm going to watch the debate, too, but I'll watch it on CSPAN so the talking heads won't interrupt with their personal opinions. . For now, I'm praying.
Love you, Ponders! If, by some miracle, Mitt gets a slam dunk, I might change the channel to watch Chris Matthews go into full hysteria.
Hi everyone. Man! It took me a while to read what you all had written. We have had some things going on - nothing too important, just been keeping me busy. I visited my brother the other day. Always interesting. I have two brothers and we are all so different. I am the conservative Christian. One brother is a liberal union guy. Our other brother, the one I went to visit, is life's victim. I know that God gave me this family for a reason but.... sheesh!
Tonight I'll be watching the debate.
Saw an article somewhere that said Washington state is totally for Obama. I hate polls and I think the majority are bogus. Pray for our state. We have some excellent candidates. We all know how dems cheat.
I know--sometimes I feel like it's not worth it to vote up here. You know the electoral votes and certainly the popular vote will go to that idiot. We mail our ballots in of course; they probably just go in the trash can...
Hi Gloria, your family sounds interesting. I guess our state is mostly Dem. We really need a few more GOP for balance.
The Dems here make me angry. They have messed up the buses in downtown Seattle. I was downtown today to pick up some food items and Teriyaki chicken. I was walking around wondering how to get home. Finally I just got on a bus that dropped me off two blocks from the house. Really stupid planning by bus-people.
Froggy and Wog and Gloria, we have to vote! Sure WA state will be going to Obama, but we are making headway. I know it's discouraging. On this side of the state, we have many more conservatives than liberals. It really gets me riled up when I check on the state map after a election, that shows how each county voted. Most of the counties are red, but huge King county in Seattle is blue, and because of their large population, they determine all of our elections.
I've heard that our Republican candidate for governor, Rob McKenna, has a good chance of winning. I sure hope so! It's been over 30 years since we had a Repub. governor.
Sorry to go on about WA state, We can't let the liberals get us down, no matter where we live.
Also, I thought Romney did great tonight! I only saw the last half hour as I was out shopping, but I called my hubby for updates. ;)
Paget, I know what you mean about libs getting us down. I think that is a ploy to get us to give up. They have already taken away our poling places. Having a strictly mail in ballot is one good way to cheat. I think that there are a lot of quiet folks that are steaming mad. I am praying for an amazing victory in our state.
This is my son's first time to vote in a Presidential election. Though I feel strongly about voting I have never encouraged him. He had some flakey ideas. I have been working on him and I think I done good. You should hear him rant about Libs and Obama.
Hi Phooey, did you sleep through the debate or did Miss Page keep nudging you awake? I thought we could have a Chris Matthews-debate-hysteria party. Who has the best Chris Matthews quote? Whaddya think, Phooey?
NEWS FROM THE NEWS: Ya gotta love this article from Drudge "Romney's Restaurant Effect." There was also a boycott of a Florida pizza parlor! This shows that we can make a difference!
"After the GOP presidential candidate chose Chipotle for a lunch drop-by yesterday, the Mexican fast food chain got a lot of glory in the press after a Romney posing with staffers went viral. But it turns out the chain eatery was a fallback. And now the family-owned restaurant is paying a big price after a Westword blog post reported on its refusal to host the candidate.
“We lost a big order today,” Oscar Aguirre, co-owner of Rosa Linda’s, told The Daily. “Somebody called in and ordered $120 worth of food.
Later, Aguirre said, the customer called back and asked, "Aren’t you the restaurant that canceled Romney?"
Bill Maher: "i can't believe i'm saying this, but Obama looks like he DOES need a teleprompter"
Chris Matthews has a post-debate meltdown.
Jeffrey Goldberg: "Is Obama even on stage?"
CQ POLITICS: "Ten minutes into the #debate, Obama is winning the "uh" count, hands down. / ML
Michael Moore: "What's the silence I hear? No throwing a party? No one saying this election is a slam dunk for Obama? What happened to the victory lap?"
Vanity Fair: "Good LORD Obama wouldn't win a student council election against a chubby nerd with that closing argument."

DeleteWelcome home Eva. You were missed. I'm not sure if I'll watch the debates.
ReplyDeleteWhy?

Froggy, everything is fine at school. Not to worry, but I do need to stop downtown on way home.

DeleteEva, I agreee about the polls. They are so skewed, rigged, and lies. You can't trust any poll to be the truth. that is very sad.

DeleteSurfie, what a funny comment about Chris Matthews! He goes apoplectic over almost anything.
