  1. Thank you so much. Karen doesn't do anything "high tech" like using the internet. She will be shocked and humbled when I tell her about this. Just like the last time Ponders and other people who have never met in person prayed for her. Thank you, Deers.

I have some good news! After months of looking, I finally rented a house yesterday. I really wanted to move into a vintage part of the city but couldn't find anything affordable where I felt safe. Every time, the house was precious but the neighborhood was awful OR the neighborhood was precious but the house was awful.

I rented a little house in a safe part of town. It is 1 block away from Nichols Hills and the Oklahoma City Golf & Country Club. The landlord is a wonderful, hard-working family man. He bought this house for his daughter. She trashed the inside. He is going to fix everything on the inside during the next month, and let me make decisions about flooring and paint colors. I think I'll be very happy there and do NOT want to move again for 6 years when I retire.

I need to start packing and get some estimates from movers! Hope everyone has a lovely Sunday!

    3. Hi Surfie, We will help Karen the best we can. She's your friend, so she's our friend. Good news about your new place. When do you get to move. Sometimes it's good to get a new place; it sparks new feelings, new energies, new ideas.

Froggy said she is so happy for you!

  2. Happy Sunday. I really like the picture for this week each time I see it I will think of Karen. Karen's name is on the prayer wall of the ministry I support.

Surfie, you have been so patient in waiting for just the right place. Sounds very nice.

Tomorrow I am driving across the state to my daughter's house. She needs help getting ready for the open house. Long drive. Hope I don't forget anything.

    2. Looks like our Deer Phooey is looking out for all of us. Thank you Phooey. Love what you said about Guardian Angels.

Gloria, how many hours does it take to drive to daughters. At least you won't have to worry about snow in mountains or passes this time of year. Hope to hear from you when you get back.

  3. For those that need catching up on Surfie's friend...and ours...Karen, read Surfie's post on last week's picture ( the one with our beautiful American flag and Eagle.

I tried to surprise Sis with my cooking. Anything that I make that tastes good is a surprise! I never learned to cook. Froggy used to make noodles with ham and cauliflower. Thought I'd try it. Came out okay though not as good as Froggys. She said, "It's only food. Don't worry. We can always throw it out."

    1. Hi Ponders. Well, I have postponed my trip for a few days so as to stay long enough to take in Olivia's Promotion from 8th to 9th grade - a big deal for her. So, leaving Wednesday and coming back on Tuesday.

I deleted my first post because of the ugliness of it. I just need to move on and stop dwelling on that. Too many others that really need and want healing like Karen and Froggy and Paget's DH.

Wog, BTW try adding a little alfredo sauce to the noodles, ham and cauli (or broccoli). Packet or jar. Sounds yummy and easy.

    2. Thanks for the tip, Gloria. My casserole came out okay, but was very cheese-flavored. Alfredo sauce sounds better. Are you still having cool weather? Guess we are getting one of those short summers. Going to jury duty tomorrow and couldn't sleep. Would rather have the day off to rest.

  5. Hi, Deers. So happy to hear from you, Phooey! Gloria, hang in there! Life is sometimes overwhelming, especially when other people change their plans, which makes you change your plans. I usually adapt, but it gives me a huge headache sometimes.

Deer Ponders, I have another prayer request. You know that I just rented a house and move 7/1. My landlords are Jamie and Maria. Jamie showed me the house. On the 2nd look at the house, Jamie's wife Maria came. It took about 5 minutes for Maria and I to become soul sisters. I can't explain it. The entire way that I found this house and these people AND how these people and this house found me is rocking my spiritual world.

The process of finding this house reminds me EXACTLY of finding my job when I moved from SoCal to OK. Seriously, when I pray for guidance & wisdom, do the work I know how to do, and trust in God ... it always turns out.

Back to my prayer request: Maria has leukemia. She is going through chemo right now. 3 bone morrow donors have been identified. She has to continue chemo until they are sure of the right marrow donor. Once that is accomplished, she will have surgery and be in the hospital for 3 months. Please keep Maria in your prayers. She is a beautiful woman, inside and out.

Just want to let you know that the US economy is more in the tank than you hear from the media. I work on the front lines in oil & gas, steel manufacturing for a lot of global industries (cars, manhold covers, street grates, etc.). It is seriously bad out there. Hang on to your hats.

OK. I can't sign off before telling you a positive story. My new assistant, Shelby, is working out beautifully. Today, her mother married our main salesman. Shelby arrived at work, on time, her hair and makeup done, wearing very appropriate clothes for her mother's wedding. She knew that she needed to wear a big shirt over herself to hide certain things from certain blue-collar co-workers . She had to leave at 10:00 for her mother's wedding, then came back to work at 3:00 ... with wedding cake!

Shelby is 19, drop-dead beautiful, and very smart. Every single person I have trained to do Shelby's job was between 25-30. They were self-obsessed and felt entitled. Shelby just wants to learn and earn more money. I think Miss Shelby is going to work out just fine and learn some marketable skills

Color me very busy and very happy. Thank You, Dear Lord!.

    1. Surfie, you are a dream. Anyone should feel lucky to work for you and to learn from you. "Go Shelby! You go girl!" As for your moving to new place, you'll need to pack faster. That moving date is coming fast. Will you have the rest of that July week off...with 4th of July? And your new friend, Maria. I am so sorry to hear of her illness. I have heard that bone marrow is not a pleasant procedure. She has prayers coming from Froggy and 'WOG.

    2. Deer Surfie...you are a Dear, you know! I added Maria's name to The Pond pic.

  6. Howdy, Ponders, what the heck is going on with the stupid weather. Oklahoma and Texas are drowning in rain and floods. Up around Seattle we've had a couple beautiful, summer days followed by a couple weeks of chilly mornings and dreary days. And now we hear that this weekend will be close to 90. Gloria and Paget, get out the fans. You are going to need 'em.

  7. Hi Ponders, I am at daughter's house. Wog, this time it was about a 5 hour drive. Our weather has been unsettled. We have had it all and by Sunday the day of the open house it may be 90 - ug. Grandson passed his drivers test. I really wanted him to get his liscence but even so he still needs a lot of practice.

Surfie, I believe you have a special spiritual purpose in life. Time and time again I see how the Lord has brought you into contact with new people and old friends who need God's mercy and grace. You also know how to get others, like us praying for them. God provided you with just the right house and blessed you with a new friend. Glad your new assistant is working out too.

Surf, also your dire warnings about the economy are timely. What is going on in this country? It is amore than a little scary. I feel that the American people are beein tricked, cheated and lied to by every government agency. I try to stay informed. We need a righteous president, one that will pick the right people to fill offices. I have never seen so many candidates run for office.

    1. Hi Gloria, glad you made your trip safely. Hmmmm, grandson got driver's license. He must be so happy and excited to drive somewhere...anywhere.

Try to stay cool. Hot days probably won't last too long. Froggy asked me to buy another fan today. If we wait til the weekend, all the fans will be gone....bought by all the other hot people.

    2. Gloria, that last comment you made was funny. I didn't even catch that "license" was misspelled. I wondered why you put that one, lonely word in a post all by itself. Duh! It finally dawned on me.

  8. Some fun news for Ponders. Ponders want to know...

Fake orca spouts, plays whale sounds to scare off sea lions
    Seattlepi.com / Thursday, June 4, 2015

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A fake life-sized orca that spouts water and plays recordings of its real-life counterparts is being deployed to scare off hundreds of sea lions crowding docks off the Oregon coast, but it ran into a snag its first day on the job.

The orca was brought over land from Bellingham, Washington, on Thursday, but as soon as it hit the water at Astoria, its engine flooded, KGW-TV reported.

    (snip)
The fake orca, named "Island," belongs to a whale watching business and was originally built in the 1980s. It's outfitted with a Suzuki eight-horsepower outboard motor and speakers.

The replica orca is actually a boat and will be driven around in the waters near Astoria, free of charge to the port. It will also tow a smaller, 7-foot-long orca behind it.

  9. WOG, I saw that Orca story on the news this morning. Made me laugh out loud. Seriously, there are a lot of "smart, educated" people in this world who couldn't find their hat with both hands.

Gloria, so happy you are with the family, even though you have 90 degree weather. There is an El Nino in the Pacific. Supposedly, Pacific NW weather will be more dry and warm this summer while people here in flyover country will be more wet and cool. We had record-setting 20" of rain here in May but the temp has already been in the 90's for almost a week. The Earth will do what she does, and the weather people will do their best to predict it all.

Do you mind if I talk too much? Big things going on in my little life.

THE ECONOMY is worse than is being reported. We had to lay off 4 people today. It was emotionally horrible. A welder, a machinist, a material cutter, and one of my assistants. They are all good people, very qualified people. When our customers dial it back in terms of our work and income from them, we have to dial back in terms of our employees who work to perform work for our customers. This probably makes no sense.

The most hard thing, for me, was to lay off one of my assistants. Kim is a very capable woman, but our business has slowed down so much that we can't justify paying her salary for work that I and our new hire Shelby can do in the accounting department. She cried when we let her go, but totally understood why. Shelby, by the way, is only 19. She is an amazing young woman. During this slow period, I will teach her a lot of marketable skills.

About the house I rented: I backed out of the deal. The family who owns it doesn't meet me there on time to schedule repairs before I more on. Don't keep appointments to meet about timeline of repairs. Did not keep the meeting yesterday to nail down the "on paper" particulars of who is doing what and when. I AM NOT renting that house. I'm a little sad about it because it was a great little house after improvements. This beautiful couple are just so overwhelmed with this being the most busy of their company's season, Maria's health issues, etc. They just don't have time to take care of this. So, I'm looking for a new place to live again! Jamie and Maria will always be in my prayers, even though I will not be their tenant.

SO, I'm marching on this weekend. Hope to see our Deers here on The Pond this weekend!

    1. You've had a rough week, Deer Surfie. First, you don't talk too much. Second, we love hearing from you, hearing about your travails. There will be another house that you can make into a home. So keep packing! It's tough being a boss, but you did what you had to do. God looks after the people you let go too. Remember that!

  10. The welder thinks he has found a new job. Kim thinks her old job wants her back. My boss Janice has a friend who owns THE accounting temp service in OKC, and can put Kim back to work on Monday. I don't know about the material cutter or machinist. The owner of the company gave everyone severance pay. We will not contest any unemployment claims.

The owner of our company struggled against these layoffs that management told him had to happen. He knew it, but really really didn't want to do it because he cares about every employee and knows their personal situations. I work for the best little company in the world!

I can't tell you strongly enough about how bad the economy is. We expected a loss of work because of the drop in oil & gas prices. That drop shot the car industry up into the stratosphere. One of our major customers manufactures steel products for the auto industry. Now, the car manufacturing industry is crashing. It's going to be a rough couple of years.

Anyway, I'm on my way to look at 4 new houses. Wish me luck! Love you Deers!

  11. Good grief, Surfie, so much going on in your life. I was all set to congratulate you on your new home and how great your new landlords sounded. I believe you've made the right choice in backing out, though. You don't need any more headaches in your life. It's jam-packed as it is. You'll find your new "perfect" home.

Your find (Shelby) sounds amazing. It just goes to show you that age has nothing to do with competence. Some people just get it and others don't.

Thank goodness some of your fires have gotten work again. As you mentioned, in this economy nothing is guaranteed, except maybe NOT finding a job. It's awful out there. Of course, our government is lying to us. Joe & I are trying to decide whether Obama is evil or inept or delusional. Joe thinks delusional. My father goes back & forth between evil and inept. I come down on all 3. It's a bad, bad mix.

We have such a strong group on our side. The number is overwhelming, but I know every single one of them would be better than Hillary. My G-d, is there no depth to which that woman won't sink? Joe says look at it this way: Everybody already knows everything about her. She won't go higher in the polls. She only beats our people because the voters don't know everything about them. They can only rise. I hope he's right.

Everyone take care of yourselves. We'll see this thing through. Continuing prayers for Karen. Love you all!

  12. Hi Surfie and Eva...Always wonderful to hear from you. We can hope that our economy gets better. Won't happen while the dems are in power. They spend too much money we don't have. I'm just about to get Froggy up from her nap. We want to watch the horses race today for the Triple Crown. Race is the Belmont Stakes, the longest race of the three races
