Another beautiful week with Pond Friends

37 comments:

  1. Happy Sunday morning, deers! We're getting April showers today. I had fun planting some pansies and herbs and salad greens yesterday but need to wait a couple of weeks to plant tomatoes and take my tropical plants outside. Sure am glad that winter is finally over.

Today won't be fun at all. I'm doing my taxes (spit) and studying. Am taking a course in Fundamental Accounting Principles. I know a lot of it from figuring things out on my own when hubs and I had our construction company, but need just a little formal training to help me move forward at work.

    How is everyone?

    1. Hi Surfie,
A song popped in my head this morning, and you answered it. "What's new? How is the world treating you?

My you have been busy... planting and taking accounting class. QuickBooks is a good accounting course if someone is starting a new business. I saw on the news that there was heavy rain in Oklahoma. Any signs of tornados? Or is it too early in the year?

    2. Hi, Wog. Just light rain here in OKC. Heavier storms in the E and SE of the state. It's only early April. From now until June is big tornado season. I pray we don't have a repeat of last May's tornadoes.

    1. Froggy sends Smooches back at ya. If we were there, we would have joined the party. We are waiting for premiere of "River Monsters" on TV tonight. It's a two hour special. Jeremy Wade always takes us on an exciting adventure.

  3. I wonder if the Las Vegas bookies are taking odds on finding the plane's black box before the batteries die? I don't think they'll ever find the box, and then we'll never really know what happened to that plane. It will remain a mystery forever.

  4. I hate that we may never find that plane and never know what happened. All those people! They deserve better. I only hope that whatever happened, the passengers and crew were unconscious and weren't in unbelievable terror. May they rest in peace.

    1. Amen, Eva. Unforunately my BIL died in a plane crash when the tail fell off the commuter flight he was on. It must have been terrifying.

      Delete
    2. Very early news reports said the plane lost great altitude so quickly that everyone on the plane would have gone unconscious. I hope so. Whatever amount of terror they experienced, it is over for them now. RIP to each and every one.

  5. Had some nice little thunderstorms late this afternoon. Nothing scary. Just a nice rain, a little thunder, a little lightning. Loved it!

Froggy and Wog, I ran across something very special yesterday when organizing my 2013 records. It was the card you wrote when you sent me the beautiful glass starfish last year. I set the card out on my dresser next to the starfish. Both are beautiful. It was a lovely thing to rediscover while doing the dreaded tax-returns. Thank you both so much!

    1. You are more than welcome, Deer Surfie. Froggy is the one who writes beautiful thoughts. She was so pleased when I read her your post. You really touched her heart. I'm glad that you enjoyed them. It was our pleasure to share with you.

  6. WOW... We are having a sunny, warm, delicious summer day in Seattle. What a surprise. I went to store on bus dressed too warm. I was very uncomfy by the time I got home. Changed into shorts and t-shirt the minute I got back. Time to look for the fans.

  7. I am sorry to come here with luci connection problems, but Gram and I have both been blocked and need Holly/Phooey/ and Surf to post. Just got off the phone with Veronica, no one seems to know what is going on. China hackers or just 'carp'?

  8. Hi everyone. Just checking in. Not a lot going on at my house. BIL is still here visiting. He did get to meet 5 of the grandkids before they went back home.

EC, I did post on the Connection and it was OK. I don't have much to say right now.

I am trying to stay encouraged and wait till November. I pray daily for my deer friends here also for our country that hidden things would be revealed and justice would be served.

Love all you ladies and Sir Phooey.

  9. Hi All...
I am still here. I have been stressed about finding a job. The AARP program that is helping me find work is sending me to a different place in a couple weeks. We are having a meeting tomorrow so I may have more news about new place.

EC, sorry to hear about your posting problems. Seems to always be something annoying on the Internet. China hackers wouldn't be a surprise. Hope you get back to Luci's site soon. Have you tried writing to Miss Luci herself?

Gloria, You said that there wasn't much going on at your house. Sounds like a very busy place to me. What ages are your grandkids?

Froggy and 'WOG say Goodnight to Sir Phooey, EC, Gloria, Surfie, Eva, and Deer Paget, wherever you are.

  10. Good Morning, all! Yesterday was a beautiful day here, finally. Sill cool, but I think that may be just because we live on an island. The sun was out all day and I sat in the backyard and read the paper. The temp was in the low 60's, but if we can just string a few days like this together, I'll believe it's Spring.

I haven't gotten on the Connection in so long. I still check out Lucianne's Must Reads every day. Sometimes I lose patience with her site because the ads take so long to load or I can't scroll down the page easily. If Luis is still handling her tech problems, an email to him usually gets instant action. Good luck, EC.

Good luck with the job hunting, 'Wog. It sure ain't easy. Just try not to stress. I'm glad the weather is so nice there now. With your warm temps and Surfie's rainstorms, it truly is the month of April Showers :)

    Love to you all!!!!!!

  11. Mornin' everyone. Well, let's try again, shall we? Was almost finished and hit the wrong key.

Wog, I am so impressed that you are looking for work. I am so full of fear and insecurities that it stops me. I would like to have a part time job again. Walmart is building a store here in Monroe. I hope Scott will apply. A few extra $$ would help.

This is birthday season. The boys are odd ages and the girls are even ages.
    Luke is 17
    Grace wil be 16
    Olivia will be 14
    Rachel will be 12
    Sophia is 10
    Camille will be 8
    Joel will be 7
    Celeste will be 3
I am soooooo blessed to have them.

BIL and Scott have been working on our front porch this week. They started tearing out bad boards on the deck and low and behold underneath is a nice cement porch and steps that previous owners covered up. I am so happy to have the old deck taken down. Such an improvement and now I am getting out some pots to fill with plants. Nice day today - I shall attempt to mow.

  12. Wog, I keep praying for the Lord to bring you to the right job and bring the right job to you. Just like He did for me. My job and individuals I work with have blessed me in so many ways. In turn, I have been a blessing to the company and to individuals I work with. God brought us together because He knew it would be a perfect fit for everyone. Took a little longer than I wanted, but it happened. Just keep putting yourself out there and praying. It will happen.

Eva! So happy Spring is starting to show up for you! It will be interesting to hear how long it takes for Spring to fully arrive on your island. Around here, we go through about 6 weeks of winter/spring/winter/spring. The winter days are finally gone. Now tornado season is upon us!

Love hearing stories about your family, Gloria. Finding the cement porch is sooo wonderful! Have fun getting the pots out. You are mowing? Pushing the lawnmower yourself? Go, girl!

I actually took tomorrow off. Haven't had a day off since September. Today is my TGIF. Happy, happy, happy!

  13. Hey Woggy. Hey Froggy. Hey everybody. Wog, I am believing for you to find the perfect work situation.

I got the back yard mowed yesterday. Yikes! I am soooo out of shape and spent a restless night with stiff sore muscles. Oh, well. This too shall pass.

About the porch. I tried to stay out of it. The Lord knows the desire of our hearts. Without my interference it turned out how I would want it. My goal is to get this house in good contition so that when the time comes to sell (and that time is coming) it will be an easy sale. Scott will be 69 this year. 1/3 of an acre is a lot to take care of.

    2. Gram and I got our login's blocked but Luis fixed it. I think it had to do with the XP losing support. Luci has been hacked in the past. Don't know who else got zapped.

  16. STUPID NEVER ENDS:

Audit: State sold computers containing personal information
By Brian M. Rosenthal / Seattle Times staff reporter

Washington state failed to erase Social Security numbers, medical records, tax forms and other confidential information from some surplus computers it has sold or given away, according to a state audit released Thursday.

It’s unclear how many computers went out the door with personal information. Auditors found private data on 11 computers set to be given away or sold last summer. Based on that discovery and a statistical analysis, they estimated that 9 percent of surplus computers contained sensitive information.

The state gets rid of roughly 10,000 computers each year through the surplus program, which has existed since the 1970s and nets about $4 million annually for agencies

  18. DOGS HELP THE SEARCH IN OSO, WASHINGTON MUDSLIDE:

'We were up there to make a difference,' says search dog owner
By Emily Sinovic /KATU News / Published: Apr 3, 2014

PORTLAND, Ore. -- On the afternoon of March 28, eight members of Mountain Wave's K9 team responded to the deadly mudslide in Washington with four K9's, including Nexus and his owner, trainer and teammate, Scott Lee.

"You always hope there's that chance somebody gets found alive," Lee said. "Knowing they're out there but not knowing where they are -- that's the hardest part."

Lee's search dog, 4-year-old yellow Lab Nexus, can sniff out a human scent as far as a half-mile away. But the conditions were challenging in Oso.

"Sometimes the mud would be solid footing and sometimes you'd move six inches and you'd be in mud to your waist. Sometimes I'd take one step and be stuck," Lee said.

'She was just my granny': Elizabeth Taylor's granddaughter opens up for the first time about being related to one of the world's most famous actresses
By Misty White Sidell / 11 April 2014

Elizabeth Taylor’s 39-year-old granddaughter Naomi deLuce Wilding has opened up in a rare interview about what it was like to grow up with one of the world’s most famous actresses.

One of ten grandchildren, Ms deLuce Wilding - a Los Angeles-based fashion stylist - tells Glamour that Taylor was a major inspiration in her life and encouraged her to be an ambitious woman.

Ms deLuce Wilding lived with her grandmother in her LA home for nearly three years, and said of their relationship: 'I don't think I associated the Elizabeth Taylor I knew with the movie star. She was just my grandmother—well, my granny,'

What a beautiful Sunday. I even hung up some curtains in the living room...after a year of living here. Froggy will be surprised. I didn't change our Pond pic today because I had put up some news articles for everyone. We'll start our new week tomorrow. Hope everyone is outside enjoying the sunshine and warmth.

Surfie, how's your accounting classes coming along? There is a lot to learn. but once you know it, it's really repetitious.

  23. HOW TO CLEAN A JELLYFISH TANK:

A chore requiring a backbone: scrubbing the jellyfish tank
By Alan Berner / Seattle Times staff photographer / April 12, 2014

Jellyfish are among the original drifters — going with the flow for millions of years, since before the dinosaurs.

Moon jellies are one of the more than 300 species in Puget Sound. They’re translucent and only mildly toxic, unlike their lethal cousins from Australian waters that can kill a human.

But for such simple, mainly made-of-water creatures, jellyfish require a complex environment if brought indoors to live in an aquarium.

To stay healthy, the 150 jellyfish in the circular tank at Seattle Aquarium need to have their home cleaned quarterly.
