  1. Fitful night. Just couldn't stay asleep. Might as well get dressed and go outside to see if there is sunshine.

    1. Sorry Wog, hopefully you'll get some cat naps today. Say hi to Froggy.

  2. Hi Phooey, Froggy says Hi to you too. She feels bad that she feels bad.

Sis and I are just going to rest today. Sometimes you just need to do that. I forget that I am older, and I just keep going. Doesn't hurt to have a "do-nothing-day." I have a roast to put into the pressure cooker, but that can wait til this afternoon too, or until tomorrow.

  3. SOME PEOPLE ARE JUST LUCKY!

Lucky Virginia couple wins lottery three times in a month
    Published March 30, 2014 / FoxNews.com

A Virginia couple who has won the lottery three times in the last month want to see how long their run of luck will last.

“We’re not finished yet,” Calvin Spencer told lottery officials as he picked up his latest prize: $681,000 in a lump sum payment won from a scratch-off ticket.

Calvin Spencer and his wife Zatera, of Portsmouth, also have won $1 million from a Powerball drawing and $50,000 after purchasing 10 winning tickets in the March 26 Pick 4 drawing

  4. It's raining today. It rained allllll weekend. I guess it's better than snow (except snow is prettier). It's still messy and wet and annoying to go about one's business in. Well, there are worse things in the world, so I won't bitch anymore. I think if I go back and look at my posts from Los Angeles, I was doing a lot of complaining about the incessant sunshine. Just goes to show you that some people can't be satisfied :)

Hope all deer Ponders have a lovely start to the week no matter what they're doing.

    1. Eva, you'll be fine as soon as the snow stops. East coast living feels different than West coast living. It will be exciting when you can go see things. There is so much to explore around you. We particularly liked seeing the wild ponies of Assateague and Chincoteague.

My pot roast is done. The timer just went off. Now to make some potatoes and steam some cabbage. Forgot to buy dinner rolls, but I think there'll be enough food for two people!

  5. Eva, had to look up info on the wild ponies. Pretty interesting. I'll put link at bottom of article and you can read more.

Two herds of wild horses make their home on Assateague Island, separated by a fence at the Maryland-Virginia line. These small but sturdy, shaggy horses have adapted to their environment over the years by eating dune and marsh grasses and drinking fresh water from ponds. While they appear tame, they are wild, and Park Rangers urge visitors not to feed or pet them. The Maryland herd is managed by the National Park Service. The Virginia herd is owned by the Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Company. Each year the Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Company purchases a grazing permit from the National Fish & Wildlife Service. This permit allows the Fire Company to maintain a herd of approximately 150 adult ponies on Assateague Island. The Fire Company controls the herd size with a pony auction on the last Thursday in July. Each year tens of thousands of spectators come to watch the Saltwater Cowboys swim the pony herd from Assateague Island to Chincoteague Island. For more information about the annual Pony Swim please visit our Pony Swim Guide. Learn more about the Ponies on our Chincoteague Pony Frequently Asked Questions page.

Isn't this a great pic. Just hope it "sticks." So many disappeared. I had to put in new pics. Haven't heard from Paget. I think she'll pop by when she's ready. We are always here.

  7. Hi everyone. Daughter is on her way here with the 5 youngest for a few days. They will be having dinner with us and then move on to stay with their cousins. We are having sliders for dinner - the cutest little hamburgers on the cutest little buns. The weather is real nice, definitely spring.

Been having a problem with a wasp nest. I have been trying to find a nontoxic way of dealing with them. Scott is allergic so I will have to do it myself.

Brother in law will get here Thursday. Just in time to see our grands before they have to go back home. Years pass by fast and before you know it they are all grown up. Eva, it is good that you moved closer to family.

Teen to government: Change typeface, save millions

A 14-year-old made headlines for a science project that would cut federal government spending on printer ink by more than $130 million by changing the typeface used on government documents.

  9. 'WOG thoughts:
Thought #1: Don't you think environmentalists would be ecstatic about finding all the debris in the ocean... and make plans for cleanup? That is an activity that would really help the planet.

Thought #2: Who would invent a black box that would only ping for 20-30 days! They have watch batteries that operate for years. They obviously need to rethink the time needed on those airline black boxes. Duh!

  10. Spring is here and I am loving it. My plants are really loving it. I see new things blooming nearly every day on my drive home from work. One of my favorites, the redbud trees, just started blooming. Love those trees.

I'm starting to make vacation plans, and setting aside $$ for them. Think I might go to San Antonio in June for a big family get-together. Definitely going to San Francisco for my birthday in September to see my son and his GF. Last year, they took me all over the city to do everything on my bucket list. This year, I want to explore the Muir Forest, tour a vineyard in Napa Valley, go to Sausalito to eat seafood, sight-see and shop.

In a weird way, it's probably going to work out that the owner "stole" my and Janice's assistant and put her into a production flow job. She is going to shine there and help us be much more profitable. Which means I'm back to doing the job of 2 people for a while. Overtime! Plus, I'm getting a raise next week. So, I'm happy.

It never ceases to amaze me how life's problems can often work out for the good.

    1. Hi Surfie, Your assessment is what I call, "You never know when you get up in the morning..." Such as, I'm looking for a job, and all of a sudden when I get up in the morning, the new job could be there.

I'm someone who would be happier on a production line than in the office. I make a terrible boss! I get bossy.

  11. Hi everyone. Good Pond day to you all. I am off to be with my grand kids and their cousins for a while.

Dearest Paget, I hope you see this and know that you have been on my heart. Praying for you. Also praying for our Froggy.

  12. I just wanted to chime in and say I'm thinking about Paget, too. Also, where's EC? Having computer problems or just busy? Maybe I missed her saying she'd be "off" for awhile. Prayers never end for Froggy, of course.

We're in a period of rain now. I don't mind it, but I wish it were a little warmer. I can't imagine this area is going to be ready for the summer season, but I guess it'll be better than it was last summer. Some of this rebuilding is just going to take years and a lot of it won't come back at all. It's sad, but Mother Nature cannot be circumvented. The working guys I see every day are so thrilled to have more work than they can handle, no matter how it came to them.

I'm heading down to Georgia again the first weekend in May. My father will turn 90 and my niece thought we should have a big bash celebrating that, as well as Nathaniel's birth and subsequent thriving (he's around 8 1/2 lbs. now). We'll gather our small family and Nikki & Iain's friends and we'll party.

In July, I'm bringing everyone up here to the Shore for a week. My dad will stay with Joe & me. I'm renting a house a block away from us for Nikki & her family. After the kids go home, my dad will meet his brother & sister-in-law in New York City for a week of "fine dining and museum going". Maybe one day that week, Joe & I will drive in and meet them for lunch. I can't believe I haven't been to the city even once since we got here, not even over Christmas.

So that's the plan now. Hopefully, it'll all go smoothly. I take nothing for granted anymore.

  14. HOW DOES A PINGER WORK?

Tick, tock: What happens after the Malaysian plane's pingers die?
By Holly Yan and Mike M. Ahlers, CNN / Fri April 4, 2014

(CNN) -- They are inaudible to humans, but they would be sweet music to searchers hoping to find clues to the fate of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370.

They're the sounds believed to be emanating from the underwater locator beacons -- known as pingers -- that were attached to the jet's cockpit voice recorder and flight data recorder.

But the clock's ticking: Their batteries are not guaranteed to work for more than 30 days, and Friday marks day 28.

And they may not even make it that long: The recorders had been scheduled for battery replacements in 2012, but they were never returned for the overhaul, the manufacturer told CNN on Friday.

  15. IS EVERYBODY CRAZY:

Report: NYC court stenographer who typed 'gibberish' may jeopardize up to 30 convictions
    Apr 3, 2014

NEW YORK (UPI) -- The verdicts of up to 30 Manhattan court cases are in jeopardy because of the actions of an alcoholic Manhattan court stenographer, according to a report by the New York Post.

Former court employee Daniel Kochanski reportedly typed "gibberish" or repeatedly wrote I hate my job. I hate my job. I hate my job instead of taking notes on what was happening during trial cases.

Kochanski's allegedly botched records include the transcripts from the 2010 mortgage-fraud trial of Aaron Hand.

"It should have been questions and answers -- instead it was gibberish," the Post reported. He hit random keys or wrote, 'I hate my job. I hate my job. I hate my job,' over and over.

KING 5 Investigators win Peabody for 'Hanford's Dirty Secrets'
by KING 5 News / Posted on April 2, 2014 at 4:37 PM

The KING 5 Investigative team of reporter Susannah Frame, photojournalist Steve Douglas, and executive Russ Walker received a 2013 George Foster Peabody Award for their work on "Hanford's Dirty Secrets."

The series was produced as part of a 10-month investigation that exposed mismanagement, wasted tax dollars and a cover-up by government officials and private contractors at the country's most contaminated site.

The investigation focused on the most serious leak of nuclear waste ever seen from an underground tank at Hanford, where the most complex environmental cleanup in human history is underway.
