You are always Welcome at The Pond

  1. Good morning! That bird is beautiful. Wonder what kind of bird it is. Please don't change a thing, but you have some typos in the title.

Wog, I know that if you have the time you will figure out Photobucket. Good luck!

Mags and I had a wonderful morning together yesterday. The garden center we went to was fantastic! We cleaned out her garden space & planted tomatoes, zucchini, cucumbers, lots of herbs. I got to meet her hubby, dogs and kitty. It's been raining really hard this morning. Hope those baby plants don't get hammered. If they do, we'll just replant them!

Funny how life works: She and I "met" each other via Lucianne when I lived in California. We met in real life when I moved back to OKC. Many in my family thought I was being reckless when we first met for lunch. My sis and her husband thought they should follow me to the restaurant in case I was really meeting an internet predator. LOL!

Please keep our deer Mags in your prayers. She is a strong woman with a long row to hoe ahead of her, health-wise. Love you Mags!

  2. Love you too, Surfie, and I'm so thankful that we both took a chance on meeting face-to-face after only knowing each other on the Connection. I had such a great time shopping and playing in the dirt with you. All the plants survived just fine, though the basil did fall over, but it was leggy to start with. You got a much nicer one. (Mags & Surfie plant shopping: Mags grabs the first ok looking pot; Surfie looks at every pot & picks the best.)
Surfie, your sis & husband should have followed us to Mimi's that day, they'd have gotten a great meal. I'm sure they would have forgotten why they were even there. ;)

  3. I know that many of you at the Pond suffer from, or love someone who suffers from, a chronic illness, often one that is invisible to the casual onlooker. You know that I do also. If you've ever tried to describe to someone what it is like to live with a condition that saps the very energy required to perform everyday tasks, but lacked the words, I offer you "The Spoon Theory", written by a young woman with Lupus. She runs a site called butyoudontlooksick.com, and the Spoon Theory is an essay she wrote describing the loss of function that accompanies chronic illness.
If you read the essay you will understand better when I tell you that I saved up spoons all week to spend a glorious few hours gardening with Surfie, and borrowed spoons against the next few days as well. But it was so worth it, worth every spoon. Thank you again, and love you too, Surfie.

    1. Thank you for the link, Magdalene. I made a copy of the article and saved on my desktop. Froggy has spoons, so it helped me understand what she's dealing with.

    2. Excellent! I'll never seen another spoon without thinking of this.

I am thankful that Mag and Surf are ok in OK, but have been trying to reach MsCharlotteVale in Al, so am going to ask for this group to pray, my DH was able to park his rig south of the area, so maybe I can sleep. PS, surfie I thought your hair looked like you were doing a great job, no vanity allowed with gardening ! you should see mine when I am in the yard !!

  7. Yesterday the tree guys came. Front yard is kind of a mess but but they cut down 2 big trees and a few smaller ones. The utility crew should come soom to replace the power pole. This is an unexpected blessing and I get a voucher for $300 to spend on plants.

I was planning on going to daughters house on Thursday but now it looks like I may get to leave tomorrow. I really do not enjoy the drive since I am usually by myself. Just a lot of anxiety and the long drive wears me out.

My son Steve who lives with us agreed to dog sit for a friend last weekend. I love dogs and cats but there is always a period of adjustment to get them calmed down. So I was basically the dog sitter for 4 days. Glad it is over, won't do it again. Beagle and Chesapeak mix and a real barker. I need a vacation. A week with kids will do it for me.

  8. DH is fine, parked at the Atlanta operation center, said the T-storms were like flash bulbs going off in a dark room so it was very tense from Pensacola through Al to Ga but thankfully no tornado. If anyone remembers Ms CharlotteVale in Al, heard from her, she is fine too. So many lost so much I am on my knees in gratitude. Thanks Eva for asking, I am worried about Bill ( RakeKing) in St Louis, not a peep from him. Now Miss Gloria, beagles do Not bark ! they give the Rebel Yell, I know, one owns my house and lets me stay here to open the food.

  9. Heard from Rake last night, all is fine. DH made it out of Pensacola before the floods, got to Atlanta, but now they are sending him to Mobile. Why I am old before my time !! but he weighs 75,000 lbs and is 'tall' enough to make it through 4 ft of water. sigh

  10. I survived another last business day of the month! I need to get as accurate as possible receivable and payable numbers as possible together on these days. My biggest problem has always been on the receivable side, caused by whomever in the receiving department not giving me all their information. Long story short, the young man who is our new receiving agent gave me the best information of anyone in that position in the 2-1/2 years I've worked there.

Finally! A young man who respects WHY it is important for the owner to have accurate numbers AND respects my need to provide the most accurate numbers to him as I can.

Funny thing about this fine young man. His last name is Mallory. His wife's first name is Mallory. Her name is Mallory Mallory! LOL. Around work, his name is Boomer!

    I love my job.

    1. Correction. My biggest problem has always been on the PAYABLES side which is handled by the RECEIVING department. I really do know the diff! I need to eat something and go to sleep.

      Delete
    2. ah, Surf, my degree is in accounting, that is why I spent 25 + years in sales, hah, the receiving dept can drive you nuts as will purchasing, I tried to stay outside sales away from the numbers. You are a peach. I SO appreciate all that you do, you are in my kind of biz. Houston Shell lubricant lab school, first female Caterpillar parts and service rep. loved hydraulic lube recommendations, wish you were not so far away, we could have a great lunch.

      Delete
    3. EC, if you ever make it to OKC, I'll give you the grand tour of our hydraulics repair/mfg. plant. It's a dirty shop but you'd probably find it interesting. Then we can have lunch at this little family restaurant in the bluest of blue parts of the city named Don's Alley. Or we could drive a couple of miles to Bricktown and have lunch at a little more hipslick&cool place. Maybe Mags could join us for lunch!

If I ever make it to your neck of the woods, I'll take you up on lunch. Where will we be going?

Neither of these will probably ever happen, but you never know! All those years ago when Mags and I first met online, it was ridiculous to think that I'd wind up back here in OKC and we'd be real world friends. Fun to think about.

    4. Mallory Mallory. That's funny. My computer didn't like it. Told me to "delete repeated word."

I worked accounts payable for seven years. Never worked with receivables, though I did help them with their filing, and cross-referenced a lot of things so they could be found. A business has to have accurate numbers on both sides.

    5. Surf, you never know, I spent a lot of time in Muskogee when on the rig with DH, but then they assigned him to Sysco food hauling and the Beag and I couldn't go with him after the Georgia Pacific paper runs. So I rescued ,Molly Mayhem, big Lab, the Shiloh's big sister, she needed a family, very gentle girl, Daddy calls her his little Bear, I call her Moose !

  11. How are you doing Froggy? Love you, deer. I usually spend Thursday nights making plans for the upcoming weekend. One thing I seriously must do is clean the antique dresser in my bedroom. I just ran my hand over the marble top to see if I need to do a serious marble clean ... and you know what is sitting right there! A beautiful glass starfish and beautiful card from you.

So many precious things sit on top of my dresser, and the dresser itself holds so many precious memories of my hubby. You are a treasure who gave me treasures that live on my dresser. Say that fast 3 times!

However, I liked Muskogee, where we picked up G P loads, but had no time for personal time outs, and the wild horses in the wilds of OK. Envy for your beautiful starfish and message, how great is this site!! Love and more Love. Hey Wog, when the Frog wakes up, hit the Judge Judy archive on Fox, NOT to be missed, she is keeper

Here are some interesting factoids about myself: Did you know that I am the inventor of Drip-Dry? I have to remind Scott about that when we do dishes. I am also the inventor of the Gram Cracker aka the Graham Cracker. Then of course there is my cereal Honey Grams aka Honey Grahams. I keep busy.

Everyone was so funny yesterday! Very enjoyable to read posts. Froggy is fretting because she has to go to dentist on Monday. (Have you ever seen a fretting frog?)

Froggy update: Next Thursday is Froggy's Birthday. I'll put up a cake picture, and we'll have a party.

Today in Seattle...it tried to be sunny, but the rain is the clear winner for the weekend. Speaking of winners, is anyone watching the Kentucky Derby today? I just like to watch them run; I don't want to sit through a couple hours of chatter to get to the race. Rain made Froggy sleeping, so you know where she is! I may take a nap on sofa soon, in front of TV, of course. I have a couple of interesting articles to post before I lay down.

  19. IS ALLAH WINNING?

'One Nation Under Allah': The Islamization of American Public Schools
    BY Pamela Geller (on Breitbart)

Endless concessions and accommodations to Islamic demands only give way to more demands for even more Islam, as shown in the recent blockbuster revelations of an Islamic takeover of UK public schools. What is less well known is the same kinds of things are happening here in the United States.

    (snip)
Just last year, a Colorado high school principal defended his decision to allow high school students at Rocky Mountain High School to recite the Pledge of Allegiance in Arabic — “one nation under Allah.” Do students even begin to understand the implications of a nation under Allah and the sharia?

Non-Muslim Michigan high school girls wore hijabs in school for a class lesson to “explore religion and identity.” In Michigan, a Christian College established a prayer room for Muslims. In Minnesota, a Catholic university installed mini-mosques and Islamic footbaths for Muslims.

  20. PRESIDENT MUST BE HAPPY THAT WE PAY OUR TAXES:

Fighting income inequality: Obama-Biden vacation tab reaches $40 mn
    Published time: May 01, 2014

A vacation tab racked up by President Obama and Vice President Biden has gotten pretty hefty – reaching $40 million, according to a taxpayer watchdog group.

In a statement released by Judicial Watch, the group stated it had gotten its hands on documentation from the US Air Force, via Freedom of Information Act requests, that reveals the cost of flying Obama and Biden alone routinely exceeds hundreds of thousands of dollars per hour in the air.

According to the Washington Examiner, which obtained the release, the president’s two golf outings this year cost roughly $2.9 million in taxpayer funds.

Judicial Watch estimates that since 2009, American taxpayers have spent about $40 million flying Obama and Biden to various destinations – not just golf outings in Palm Springs, California, but also for vacations to Hawaii and trips to Africa.

  21. NEVER TRUST A VOLCANO:

Mount St. Helens Is Recharging: What Rising Magma Means
May 2, 2014 01:00 PM ET // by Becky Oskin, LiveScience

Mount St. Helens is nowhere near another eruption, but new magma is rising underground, heaving the volcano upward and outward by the length of a fingertip, researchers said here today (May 2) at the annual meeting of the Seismological Society of America.

A small amount of magma started pooling 2.5 to 3 miles (4 to 5 kilometers) beneath the volcano in 2008, said lead study author Seth Moran, a seismologist with the Cascades Volcano Observatory in Washington state. The depth comes from the pattern of surface swelling, measured with GPS, and from earthquakes triggered by the molten rock pushing upward.

  23. Good evening pond friends,

Froggy sent me a nice email, and I thought I'd drop by and say hello.

I've been gone for a while, so I've just read the most recent posts.

I was happy to see that Magdalene has joined the pond! I always enjoyed her comments at The Connection.

EC, your colorful words about John Kerry cracked me up! That's how I describe him too.

Gloria, Thank you for your comment. I appreciate your kind words.

About a month ago, my young co-worker went on maternity leave, and I've been doing both our jobs. Sometimes I feel like I'm barely keeping my head above water, but so far so good. She'll be back the first week of June, and I'm counting the days.

It's late, and I'm heading to bed. I hope you all enjoy the rest of the weekend.

We love you, and will always be here anytime you want to drop in. Goodnight Deer Paget.

  24. Yay, we heard from Paget again!! Hang in there and we'll be here when you can stop treading water :)

Froggy, I'll take your feeling 'medium' now. It's a lot better than feeling lousy, isn't it? I know it isn't what you want and I know it isn't great, but maybe if you can remain 'medium' for awhile, you'll travel on to 'better'.

EC, keep up the colorful quips. I love 'em!!!

Just got back from my big weekend in Georgia. My dad is turning 90 on Tuesday and Nathaniel turned over by himself for the first time. Such a microcosm of life, isn't it? The old man getting weaker with age and the baby getting stronger with age. Watching the two of them with each other this weekend just made my heart swell.

I'll catch up with everyone soon.
