Ponders...Let's meet at the beach

  1. Happy Mother's Day to all Frog Moms. I know so many women who have never given birth to a child but still deserve special love on this day because of the special love they give to people during their lifetimes.

I had a kitchen disaster yesterday. Opened a drawer to get a spoon and it was filled with water. There is a leak in one of the apartments above me and it has flooded the cabinets on one wall of the kitchen. So I had to drag everything out of the cabinets and clean things up as much as possible. One good thing about being a renter is that the building maintenance will have to take care of it on Monday and I don't have to deal with it. What a mess!

Just as I was in mid-grumble, a terrific thing happened. My brother called and invited me to Mother's Day lunch at the Petroleum Club today. He's treating his wife, me, and our sister. Seriously, I have the best big brother in the world. He's been through rough times throughout the years but never gave up. Now, he's living the life he's worked for all these years. I'm so proud of him, and so happy for him.

    He's also quite handsome!

    1. Hi Surfie,
Despite your kitchen disaster, you are having a splendid day after all! You truly have such a wonderful family and friends.

  2. Oh Surf, that reminded me of an incident, 40 years ago, we had the downstairs apt in Rochester and the upstairs ahem! lady flushed her parrot cage papers down the toilet, well, y'all can image what turned up on my bathroom floor with parquet tiles that popped up over the entire apt. Thankfully we were only there 7 months. Now as to brothers, mine lives next door, he has a tractor so does both lawns, I am grateful, he can be a royal pain but I love him to pieces, they are at their daughters place today for Mother's Day, little Mr Ian's brother Eli is due next month so they will have two grandsons. We all were hoping for a girl this time but guess Daddy's genes, rule.

  4. Hi everyone. Happy Mother's Day! Scott and Steve took me out for brunch today. We haven't done that in ages. Ate too much then came home and took a nap.

Are we all without our Moms? Mine has been gone for 20 years but I still miss her terribly. What I miss is the way she was when she was younger and more healthy not how she was at the end. I want to do a good job of making memories with my grandchildren. I also intend to live long and be as healthy as I can be.

  5. Hello pond friends,

What a beautiful bouquet! Thank you deer Wog and Froggy.

It was nice to read about all the Mother's Day activities. It sounds like a good time was had by all. :) (With the exception of Surfie's little flood. Sorry to hear that!)

Gloria, I am so blessed to still have my mother and father. Mom will be 88 in July, and dad will be 89 in December. We try to drive them to every family activity, but it's a delicate subject, as they still drive around town, and are both pretty good drivers. They're going to Wenatchee on Friday,(135 miles from here) to see "Stars on Ice", which includes some of the stars from the Olympics. I asked dad who was driving them, and was relieved to hear that its a senior citizen event, and they're riding in a chartered bus. Dad asked me if I didn't trust his driving, and my answer was, "Dad I trust your driving, it's the other drivers on the road that I worry about."

I'm not sure if I shared my good news, but my son and his wife are expecting a baby girl on August 25th. Needless to say, we are thrilled!

My lunch break is over, just wanted to drop in and say hello!

    Love to all from Paget

    1. Congrats to your son and daughter-in-law!! I don't envy her being so pregnant during the hot summer, but how wonderful it'll be when the little one is born. Keep us informed :)

  6. Is everything okay, 'Wog & Froggy?

  7. Froggy and Wog, as Eva said, is everything ok? Sometimes when you don't comment stuff is going on. Prayers for both of you. Love and hugs.

  8. Eva, Gloria, Pond Family...
We are okay. Froggy is dealing with some pain in her legs and her back. I have been busy fixing meals, laundry, house things, and helping my lovely sister. We are a little warm in our apartment today. We wanted summer. Guess it's finally decided to show up. Magdalene has surgery on the 19th. I put it on my calendar.

  10. Nice that you gave us an update. Prayers for the Healing Power of the Holy Spirit is a nightly thing from me to Phooey, Froggy, Mags, Rake King, Pianogirls daughter and many others. The list is so long now a days.....sometimes I forget the particulars and just ask our Lord to Bless everyone that is suffering.

  11. Phooey, what kind of cancer, if I may be so bold as to ask. Sounds like an Agent Orange thing, DH was TET 68 , as my dear Kevin, Cap Marine tet 68, and has survived 2 cancers so far, plus a heart attack, we use a lot of vitamins/supplements and testosterone shots. Life Extension.org or www.lef.org, will answer any question. They have fought the FDA and won. They are in Fort Lauderdale, but I go to their Maitland facility, for the last 20 years, I have parifial artery disease in my legs so getting around is difficult. advisors -1-800=226-2370 Wog pay attention: advisory@lef.org, they may be able to help Froggy No charge, sweatpea. 12. Deerest Pond friends, I wish there was a way to signal each of you that I have read your post and am thinking about you. There are times that my heart tears just a little and the tears come. So many of God's people are hurting and are in need of healing. Of course prayers continue for all.

  13. Hi Pond Family,
I'll read posts this afternoon. Froggy and I are HOT. Not used to hot weather here. I am on my way to bus to see my job counselor. Have a great day.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Well, Wog, it has been hours, how did you make out ? What is your idea of hot ? 91 today and then rain with tornado threats so it dropped to 72, all clear here and the Beagle is out of his ThunderShirt and under the desk.

    ReplyDelete
  15. EC,
ThunderShirts were a great invention. We could have used them in Colorado for our little dog. Sounds like everyone has been a little steamy this week. Read above about medical links. Thanks, EC, for this valuable info.

Phooey, We are sending you prayers and hugs. Let us know. We worry about you.

Gloria, Eva, Paget... Always wonderful to hear from you.

Paget, good that your folks stopped driving. It would be quite a worry. I haven't driven for a year when I sold the car. Couldn't afford the parking, etc. Now I don't if I could still drive.

My message is short this evening... just sitting in front of fan. Meeting with job person went okay. I have to visit every two weeks and tell them about my job search.

  16. Phooey! Phooey? Write a few lines, okay? I get nervous when you're up against something and don't let us know what's going on. We love you. Hang in there. You can do it!

My F-I-L just turned 94. Unbelievable. He went to the doc because of bad knee pain. The doc told him he was old. Not too helpful on the pain front.

We're getting a lot of rain now. I want the sun and the heat back!

Love to you all, always and forever.

    1. Hi Eva, I am amazed at how many people live into their 90s. And...doctor really wasn't helpful at all. Someday he'll be old, and we can tell him the same thing when he has pain. As far as the weather goes, we need to give thanks that we are not living in Los Angeles or San Diego. I heard that the fires moved into Camp Pendleton. Froggy couldn't take the smoke. She has asthma.

Phooey...Please keep in touch. Your Pond Family is here for you.

I am on my way to "work" at food bank today.

  17. Hi everybody. TGIF? For me it is just another day.

Our shelter cat has been with us for 3 1/2 years now. When she first came to us she was so timid that she would go hide at any little thing. She still does when there are strangers around. She did not like to be held or picked up even by the three of us. Well all that has changed. Miss Kitty has turned into a royal pest. She climbs on everything yowls a lot gets on my lap and my computer and generally demands attention. That part of her memory that made her fearful must be gone.

Eva, it is hard to imagine being 94. If people could get there being healthy, whole and maintaining their independence it might not be too bad.

  18. Thanks everyone. Don't worry about me. My cancer has been up-ticking a small amount for the last year. Doc said my med (Gleevec) may need to be changed if the cancer is becoming immune to it. Had a special blood test sent to be tested, should know something within a month. Love you all !

    ReplyDelete
  19. We will be waiting to hear the results, it is my understanding, Gleevec, has high marks for treating Myelogenous. Healing prayers coming.

    1. EC, thank you, and yes I have CML. It has not been identified with agent orange exposure however, I would like an independent study (non-government) look at the numbers. Fat chance ! that's going to happen !

  20. Hi Ponders. I went to see the oncologist for the first time today. My husband, son, and cousin went along. We liked him, he explained everything thoroughly, and, though I've done a lot of research and didn't really learn anything new, I think it was helpful for the family to hear. I wasn't expecting to be seeing him before the surgery, but there were some questions that he needed to have the answers to before a final decision was made about the surgery. Sometimes they do chemo before surgery, to address things like lymph nodes that can't be reached surgically. But after seeing all the results, and hearing my preference, it was decided that we will go ahead with a bilateral mastectomy on Monday morning. Then after I have had some healing time, chemo and hormonal therapy. I'll be relieved to have it out of the way.
It's been great having my son here even if just a couple of days and we haven't done anything, not even much talking, just hanging out together. And he was glad to be able to go to the appointment today. He's a great guy, and he loves me, which just blows me away. So thankful.
Anyway, thanks for thinking of me, and for all the prayers. Thinking of you as well, Phooey. We can beat this enemy.

    1. Good Morning Magdalene,
You must be so anxious about Monday. We'll be with you on Monday, praying all the day for a positive outcome. Froggy sends her love, and wishes you success.

      Delete
    2. Oddly, Wog, I have less anxiety today than I did before the oncologist visit. If the decision was to do chemo first, Monday's operation would have been to just put ports in place for it, then afterwards I would have had to go through surgery again. Since I've had to stop my Celebrex and vitamins for a week out, my joints are killing me. I don't want to have to go through this crap twice if I don't have to. So I'm relieved that it will all be over with on Monday. I'll go to sleep and wake up udderly deprived. :)

    3. Mags, you are the best, with that sense of humor. We all love you deerly ! How about that, your son, was able to visit and give support after his recent loss. Ain't Love Grand, trivia how wrote and sang that song ??
DH uses cayenne pepper pills for his joint pain, works better than a 'script without side effects. Another old trick learned from the Nam medics. He reached a point he couldn't make a fist ! try shifting a rig when you hands don't work, bottom line the Cayenne gave him back his hands. OK that was off topic, sometimes I go around the bend when I feel so strongly about a person's situation, just know you are in our prayers and thoughts, and are a beautiful person, and we are grateful you intrust us with your personal situations. Hugs, EC

  21. Phooey, I did not mean to pry, but my third career was a physical trainer at the YMCA, my group was from a Humana program called Silver Sneakers, so I had to do a lot of research and study of my 'kids' that were over 65. All sorts of issues, but had several vets recovering from chemo and their special needs to 'get back' their physical strength. My DH and his buddy had their senior world tour to Nam, so I wondering, ( John is OK now, but had to get 2 new cornea and skin cream that was $100/wk, lucky his wife is a nurse) I don't have medical background, but a lot of research if anyone needs info.

  23. All my Pond friends are the type of people I would like to have as next door neighbors. Nice, interesting, caring people. I have thoughts each day about Ponders and what they are going through.

  24. Mags, from now until we hear that you're out of surgery (can your son or husband log on just to post that for us?), I'll be concentrating all my energy toward making your surgery as smooth and easy as possible. I'm also praying that you get through today and tomorrow with little anxiety. When you wake up after it's all over, you're going to feel soooooo relieved!

It's going to be okay. Believe it!

    Wherefore art thou, Surfie ?

  27. Yeah, where is our Surfie? Probably very busy with your job and family...and dodging tornadoes.
