  1. Good Morning, Pond Family,
Some people in America don't know how special this country is. I thought Lee Greenwood's song would be a wonderful way to start the day. Here is a link with lyrics so you can sing along.

  2. THE "TRUE" MEANING OF GOVERNMENT TRANSPARENCY:
    (two articles found on Drudge)

    1. Obama Admin Forbids Lawmakers From Taking Photos Of Illegal Immigrant Facility

"The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is welcoming members of Congress and their senior staff to tour a temporary shelter being used to house illegal immigrant children — but the invite comes with a list of rules, including a suggestion that members leave their cellphones in their vehicles."

    (snip)
"No recording devices will be allowed (We may ask you to leave your cellphone in our vehicle)
No questions will be allowed during the tour, but questions will be addressed later
No interacting with staff and children at the shelter
We will provide photos of the facility after the tour."

    2. Border Patrol Agents Threatened with Criminal Charges for Speaking to Reporters

"The Associated Press (AP) obtained an email from Eligio "Lee" Pena, an assistant patrol agent, that ordered more than 3,000 agents to not speak to reporters about the "humanitarian crisis." The email allegedly said that reporters are likely to press for details and "may try to disguise themselves" in the process."

"Pena's email went on to warn agents that they could be disciplined or even charged with a crime if they speak to media, according to the AP.".

    (snip)
"The silence comes in the face of the apprehension of 47,000 foreign children traveling alone to the U.S. since October.

"Department of Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson implied at a press conference on Thursday that many of the children will not be deported. "The law requires that we act in the best interest in the child," he said."

  5. Good morning pond friends, and Happy Father's Day to Phooey!

I love the Flag Day picture. My birthday is today, but I often wished I was born a day earlier, as I am very proud and thankful to be an American. Thanks Wog, for posting Lee Greenwood's song. I tear up every time I hear it. Very special!

Phooey, I did a little jump for joy when I saw that your cancer numbers were down so low! That is wonderful news!! (waving back at you)

Mags, (may I call you that?) I think you are one brave lady. I'm also happy to see that you have a wonderful, devoted husband. That can make all the difference in the world.

Surfie, I'm so sorry about your apartment flood! I've had similar episodes, on a much smaller scale. We had neighbors whose ice maker went haywire, and leaked into our closets and boy, was that a mess. After the landlord checked out their apartment, he also made them change their over use of extension cords, and was amazed that they hadn't had a fire in their unit! Fire was always my biggest concern with apartment living. I made sure our fire alarms were always in working order.

Froggy, I'm happy to see more posts from you! Hope that means you're feeling better!

Eva, I really enjoy reading about your life on your island in New Jersey. Hope the summer people aren't cramping your style too much! Your descriptions of your area remind me of Elin Hilderbrand novels. I love her stories that are set on the east coast. In one of her recent books, she has one main character raving about Obama, and how wonderful he is. I was so disappointed in her.

Wog, I didn't hear how your job interview went. Anyplace would be smart to hire you. Keep on keeping on, you will find the right job one day, and they will be the lucky ones.

    Take care everyone,

    Love and prayers from Paget

    1. HI PAGET....
What a treat. Ponders look forward to hearing from you. You write such lovely posts. Glad to hear that you are doing okay.

Seems that everyone here has had some kind of adventure lately. Phooey is feeling better, and Mags is working hard to get better. She has had so much to deal with lately.

I go on interview Monday at 1pm. So I'll work two hours, then catch bus to interview place. I'm really nervous about it today. I've been planning the bus route and times. It's something you can't be late for. (Sorry about the preposition at the end. Sometimes it doesn't seem there is any other place to put it! "It's something for which you can't be late." sounds awkward.)

Froggy has good days and days where she needs to rest. Her hands bother her, so she doesn't type very often. I read Ponder messages to her.

    1. Surfie,
We are sending you a bucket and truckload of sponges. Will that help?
Just how do you fix a flood in the home? Seriously, we'd all help if we could.

    2. There was/is nothing I or you my Deer friends can do (but thanks!). All I could do was move my furniture and things inside the closet out of harm's way. The apartment must fix everything. I came home today to find a note on my door saying they had come in today to replace the light switch and wall sockets. There was crumbling drywall and a screw left on the floor.

What they don't understand is that hubs and I owned a construction company for 25 years. I know certain things. So, I pulled off what looked like new outlet covers. Lo and behold! They had replaced nothing. Even the "new" covers were just old ones they had washed (they forgot to remove ALL the old paint). The "new" screws didn't even match.

Nothing was done to address water damage in the ceiling, wall and floor.

So, I took pictures and am sending them a certified letter. And I've hired a certified mold inspection company to test the interior air quality of my apartment.

I've moved beyond being upset into an "I'm doing to do the work I need to do in order to hold their feet to the fire" mode. I've been sick since I moved here and thought I was allergic to Oklahoma. Now, I think I'm allergic to my apartment. If that mold test comes back off the charts, I'll break my lease and move.

Don't feel bad for me. I have a lot of better things to do with my time, but am on a mission. I shudder to think how many of my wonderful neighbors are putting up with things like this and have no idea how to deal with them.

On a happy note, my new assistant at work is turning out to be a delight. So happy to have some help. So much so that I can actually take Friday afternoon off because I want to! I have nearly 100 hours of vacation time built up and can now start taking it.

      Love you, Deer friends.

    3. Surfie,
I love you Surfie. I'm so sorry you've had this trouble. I'm sure you didn't want all this business going on. I'm praying for you now Deer. Let us know how it's going. SMOOCH!

    4. Atta girl, Surfie. Don't get mad, get even (or move after getting evidence). The main thing is not to be a victim which you're showing you aren't. It's a pain, to be sure, but you're doing it the right way.

  10. I'm putting up with a cranky sick hubs. He's got what is probably a sinus infection from the cottonwood tree in front of our house. If you breathe in a piece of fluff, it will irritate your sinuses and throat, and if you don't have some protection against it, a sinus infection can ensue. I take a daily prescription allergy pill that I have learned has an interesting side effect that will come in handy next month when I start chemo. The day after I have chemo, I will have a shot of something called Neulasta. I can't for the life of me remember what it's for, but it has a side effect of bone pain, which is mitigated by the allergy med.
    Otherwise things continue as before.

    1. Men are such wonderful beings who, in my experience, do certain things so much better than we women do. BUT, when they get sick, break out the whinebulance! I've been seeing the cottonwood fluff flying around. Didn't know where it was coming from but it sure has been making me sneeze a lot more than usual.

Interesting that your allergy med mitigates bone pain. God works in mysterious ways. The older I get the more grateful I become that I'm not in charge.

You keep inspiring all of us. Love you!

    2. It's just amazing how men can turn into instant babies when they're sick. (Sorry, Phooey, but it's true.) Hang in there, Mags, I'm sure he's worth it.

Dick, Liz Cheney Op-ed: "Rarely Has a U.S. President Been so Wrong About so Much"
    Daniel Doherty | Jun 18, 2014

Rarely has a U.S. president been so wrong about so much at the expense of so many. Too many times to count, Mr. Obama has told us he is "ending" the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan—as though wishing made it so. His rhetoric has now come crashing into reality.

  12. HOW LUCKY CAN SEATTLE BE?

Hillary Clinton faithful camp out overnight for Seattle book signing
    BY MyNorthwest.com on June 18, 2014

Seattle's University Bookstore expected a large crowd for former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton's book signing. But managers never expected fans to begin lining up well before midnight.
Around 700 people were waiting outside when manager Pam Kady arrived Wednesday morning, many camping in tents overnight all around the building and streets.

"I've never seen a line at 7:45 a.m. going up and down 15th Street," Kady said, "I think people are having a great time waiting in line and sharing a common love for this women."

    (snip)
"I am here today to visit Hillary for a few seconds and let her know I support her decision to run for president again," said Robert Taylor. "I'm ready to start working in her campaign if she decides to go forward. Everyone today is here to rally and show their support for her new book and future."

If Hillary is elected president (bite my tongue on that one!), will we call her Hill-Bill?

Just some thoughts I had about the unthinkable. This country desperately needs a Republican president to save any "good" that we have left. I can't imaging how many generations of Americans it will take to get the budget under control.

Colorado soldier’s dog sold on Craigslist while he is serving in Afghanistan
BY Deborah Hastings / NEW YORK DAILY NEWS / Published: Wednesday, June 18, 2014

A 3-year-old Shiba Inu will be returned to a soldier's family after the dog was sold on Craigslist in a complicated saga that started when Robert (Robby) Gabbert of Colorado was deployed to Afghanistan.

He left his beloved dog Baxter with his girlfriend, who apparently got tired of caring for the pup and sold him on Craigslist without telling Gabbert, who is still serving overseas.

Gabbert's family found out about the sale and launched a social media search, which went viral, to find Baxter's new home.

  15. The roof of my apartment got replaced over the past 2 days. It's SOP to throw the old roof onto the ground as they peel it off. It fell on my garden! Managed to save a lot of it. Lost a tomato and all my squash plants. Zinnia patch is about 1/2 gone. Rosemary 1/2 gone. Nasturtiums are gone. I'm totally OK with it because I have a new roof! I can tell that the roofers respected my garden and did their best to respect it. But you gotta get the job done!

What interested me a lot is what happened yesterday as I was taking out damaged plants. So many neighbors stopped to say they were sorry. Some very young adults asked me about gardening and what the plants were. They all said how happy it made them feel when walking down the sidewalk and looking at that garden. A couple of "all the time upset about something" people hoped I was angry and would file a complaint. Hope they listened when I told them in a very nice way that they need to get over themselves.

    2. Hi Surfie,
Guess I got on kinda late today. Just feeling lazy like I need a nap. Sorry to hear about the garden, but you were able to save some of it. Is there time to plant something else? Like you said, the important part was getting the roof fixed.

    3. I guess I'm naive, but I'd just have blown a gasket at those roofers. It's typical, though. Drop something to the ground and who cares what it hits or where it lands: "That's not my problem". Unbelievable!

    4. It must be a "guy thing." Women would have been very careful not to damage the garden. Surfie may just have to grow a flower garden this year.
