Ponders are wishing for sunshine!

Do you look like this?

  1. Good Morning Frosty Ponders...It's a wonderful day to camp out in front of a fireplace, and watch football. We'll be watching our Seahawks play at Kansas City. Didn't want to get out from under the warm covers into a cold room. But sooner or later you get hungry.

Be sure to read last posts from yesterday. Our Deer Surfie wrote a wonderful post early this morning before I changed to a new picture. Sometimes I don't change pic until Monday morning.
I have an article to post about a town built just for dementia patients. Why have we not heard of this place before?

  2. The Dutch Village Where Everyone Has Dementia
    Josh Planos / Nov 14 2014

"Like most small villages, it has its own town square, theater, garden, and post office. Unlike typical villages, however, this one has cameras monitoring residents every hour of every day, caretakers posing in street clothes, and only one door in and out of town, all part of a security system designed to keep the community safe. Friends and family are encouraged to visit."

    1. Wog, what an interesting article! I wish they could do this over here. I thought it was interesting that the article said this: "it would be extremely difficult to implement in a non-socialized healthcare system—meaning that in the U.S., a facility like Hogewey might be impossible for the foreseeable future" Hmmm

    2. Paget, sounds like a better place to live than in a nursing/care facility. I doubt if we'll ever have a place like Hogewey here. It costs too much money for starters. And government would have to meddle in it, and muddle it up!

  3. Hello frog friends,

I've been away for a while, so thought I'd drop in and say hi.

Hello Froggy! How are you doing?

Wog, I loved your poem! You have a gift! I came across a web link on Facebook today, that had lots of ways to make extra cash. The website is ThePennyHoarder.com. It had information on sites that pay for short articles, etc. I thought of you and Froggy. I subscribed to their free newsletter, and plan to see what other ideas they have.

Surfie, I enjoyed your post about your Aunt Lynda. What a special gift you gave her!

We've been busy with family too. The last two weekends we've all been helping hubby's aunt Mary and her husband get settled into their new house. Her husband has Alzheimer's, but she is determined to keep him home with her as long as possible.

Last month we took my parents to Cannon Beach, OR, for a weekend. My parents spent many vacations on the Oregon coast through the years, and dad said he wanted to put his foot in the ocean one last time. He'll be 89 next month, and is in good health, so I hope he will see the ocean again! We had a good time, even though it rained, and was misty most of the visit. The temperature was right around 60, and it was fun. I also saw how the other half lives. The little town of Cannon Beach has lots of beautiful homes, which are "second homes" owned by people with "Microsoft money" according to a clerk in one of the art galleries we visited. I was shocked at the prices of the pictures on display! One was $11,000, and it didn't seem that great to me. We did find some cute whimsical frog displays in one gallery, and it made me think of the frog pond.

We had snow last week, so I worked from home on Friday. It's funny how after working at this company for 30+ years, they have just decided that we non-exempt employees can be trusted to work from home. What caused this change in policy? The environment! We are using too much fossil fuels driving to work every day, and we need to reduce our greenhouse emissions! Oh yeah… My immediate boss doesn't like us to work from home very often, however, since the head honchos say it's fine, he has relented to letting us "telework" if it's a snowy day, or if we have another reason we need to be home.

Right now hubby is in the other room yelling at the Seahawks. I sure hope they win! 

Have a lovely day, deer frog friends!

    Love from Paget

  4. Paget, it was so wonderful to hear from you. I love your reading your stories about family and work, and even the weather! Hope you can stop in more often.

It snowed all day today. Wish I had a fireplace. Still, I've loved watching the snow fall while puttering around. It's really pretty outside but I dread the drive to work in the morning. It will be slippery!

Hope all you deers had a nice weekend!

  5. Hello Froggy, Wog, and pond friends,

Is everyone okay? It's been very quiet here since Sunday. Eva, has that storm hit your area too? Hope all is well.

    Love from Paget

  6. It's c-o-o-o-o-o-o-ld. But, it's sunny and dry and that helps. I need to go shopping and buy some sweaters. I have no energy. I think my Mom used to repeat this silly phrase: My get-up-and-go just got-up-and-went. That's how I feel. I'm sure I'd feel better after a bracing walk along the ocean, but I can't seem to make myself do it. In the meantime, I'm reading, watching old movies, snuggling with Bambu. Can't last forever.

  7. Deer Eva, Super to hear that you and Paget are okay. Guess everyone is cold. Our apartment warms up fast, and both Froggy and I have heating blankets.

Let me tell you about our heating blankets. A couple years ago, Sears had a sale on a few things. One of the sales was their heating blankets. They were on sale, then the price was cut even lower, then they were 50% off the sale price. It was something silly like that. So the blankets were only about $5.00 each. I bought at least 5. I took all that I could carry, and loaded them into a taxi.

Eva, about having no energy, I think the cold weather will do that to you. Kind of like hibernating. Bambu can tell you about that!

Froggy said that she misses everyone. She hasn't been on much because her computer is dying. It restarts or refreshes every few minutes. Very annoying. It says that it needs new display drivers.

I went out in the rain, and came back with wet feet. Must be time for new shoes. I might as well buy some snow boots too.

  8. Good morning deers. I'm up way too early, so thought I'd drop in for a visit. I have a list a mile long (actually one sheet of a yellow legal pad long) of things I need/want to do. Won't get it all done this weekend but will give it my best shot!

The weather here has been crazy. I slid to work Monday on 2" of ice. Today, it is raining and will get up to 60 degrees. I feel for those living with 6-9 feet of snow. I've read a lot of reports that this is going to be a very long, cold winter with lots of snow because of an El Nino condition in the Pacific.

Wog, I bought some really cute rain/snow boots a couple of years ago. I think it was at the end of winter and they were on sale for about $15. Love those boots!

We had our open enrollment for health insurance at work last week. The company pays 80% for employee coverage, but the employees have to pay 100% of their dependents' coverage. People were shocked at the "Affordable Care Act" price increases. I knew this was coming and that people would be shocked/scared/angry, but wasn't fully prepared to deal with the emotions. You know what irritated me the most? Employees under 50 saw their premiums decline. People (like me) over 50 got socked with a 100% premium increase and $2,000 deductible increase. I could go on and on with the rates and rules of Obamacare. Suffice it to say that this is a travesty. I'll tell you one thing that is going to happen (probably by Gruber design) is that our employees who can't afford to insure their families will be forced to insure them through Insure Oklahoma (medicare) or Sooner Care (Medicaid). Guess who pays for those subsidies? Oklahoma taxpayers. It's insanity!

Thanks for letting me get that off my chest. I feel better now.

So I'm off to pay bills, take a load of stuff to Goodwill, upgrade my cell phone (my dear nephew is manager of a Sprint store), figure out Thanksgiving with my sister, go grocery shopping, enroll in 2 classes at OSU (my company is paying for it!), clean house, do laundry, do my nails, etc. I'm worn out already!

    Love you deers.

    1. Surfie, Always a pleasure to hear from you. All of us have had some bizarre weather to deal with. We are fortunate on the West Coast. Seattle has had some rain for a couple days, and cold. It's snowing in the mountains where it's supposed to snow. I, too, feel sorry for the people who got 6-9 feet of snow...which will soon melt and flood. I can't imagine the misery.

You must understand the way obamacare works more than any of us. Sounds miserable. I am sorry that you have to deal with such a ridiculous policy. I don't know if the GOP can fix it. The great O will use executive power to screw up as much as he can before the GOP moves in. Very sad what he has done to our country.

    2. Hi sisters. Hi Ponders. Everyone has Obamacare on their mind. It is affecting us all. I am down to 2 generic prescriptions and Scott doesn't take any. Still we haven't any wiggle room in our budget for more to go out for medical costs. I have been skipping recommended tests because of the co pays and deductibles. It should be very interesting to see how this all plays out.

Steve is/has been working on an engine re build in our garage for the last 6 months. It is very close to being done. I am so ready for it to be finished.

      Seahawks tomorrow.

  9. A little tip about getting a new, short-term prescription: Ask the doctor for a sample. Drug companies regularly stock doctors' shelves and want them to distribute to patients. I experienced this 2 winters ago when I had pneumonia. The prescription for one week of care would have cost $500. My doctor gave it to me, for free. If the doctor doesn't have a sample, ask for a PREFERRED GENERIC drug. Those are ones drug companies are trying to get on the market and cost waaay less money than regular generic.

I spent an hour with my nephew yesterday at the Sprint store he manages. Got rid of my 7 year old flip phone and upgraded to a smart phone. I don't know how or why, but my cell phone bill went down from $135 a month to $50 a month. Color me happy about that! Of course, I have no idea how to work this new technology so I'll take whatever time it takes today to figure it out.

I'm very proud of my nephew. The store was packed with customers. He was taking care of me, acknowledging new people as they came in the door, sending employees to ask what the customers needed (in advance of them getting to front of the line), on top of how his employees were handling customers. He knew every single person in the store, what they needed, and directed everything. He was cool and calm and very much in command of it all. So much that, during the most busy time he sneaked in "Aunt Debbie, are you bringing a lemon pie for Thanksgiving?" I nearly fell off my chair laughing. I always make a lemon pie for him. Anyway, it was a great experience. Now I need to figure out my phone!

Had dinner with my brother, sister, and their spouses last night. We figured out who's bringing what for Thanksgiving dinner. I have my list, so am on my way to the grocery store.

    Happy Sunday deers!

    1. Good Morning Surfie...wonderful story and some helpful information about prescriptions and cell phones. I still have a little flip-phone. I have been looking at the free-for-seniors Assurance phones. Don't know if they have a style like Smart phones. Technology is getting away from me!

Our apartment building will give the residents a free Thanksgiving meal in the community room on Tuesday. And I am making my turkey dressing on Weds and Thursday. The first day I cook up things like sausage (and try not to eat too much), onions, celery, rice. Then Wednesday I just mix up everything, pack into a tinfoil pan and bake it in oven for 45- 60 minutes. Open can of black olives, gherkins, Blue Lake green beans, Niblets corn, cranberry sauce. Yes, there will be pumpkin pie and mincemeat pie and hot-buttered rolls. Voila! I made myself hungry! (By the way...I love lemon pie, too!)

    2. Good morning. Trying to prepare for Thanksgiving. It will be just the 3 of us - again. I love cooking and baking.

Egad, is it ever raining today. Our neighbor will be putting a cherry picker in our driveway to cut down a tree. The guy doing the cutting wants to be done in time to watch the game today.

    3. Hi Gloria, we slept in today. It seems like I never get to just lay around. Football is on TV. Waiting for the Seahawks home game. We have rain too. The sun popped out for about 10 minutes, and the rain is back streaking across the windows. It will just be Froggy and I for dinner on Thursday. Basically the only cooking will be the stuffing. I will get a couple slices of spiral ham and turkey from the grocery deli. That's all we need.

  10. Hi Ponders, I just read this story about a dog and his new friends. You'll enjoy it. Has lots of pictures too.
