  1. A couple of things to catch up on.

Gloria, you mentioned the list of stuff kids have to bring to school now. My niece showed me the list of things she had to get for kindergarten for the (almost) 5 year old. I was shocked. This is a public school. What are our taxes going to if not the schools? She spent over $200! When I went to school, they provided the paper and pencils, etc. I guess those days are gone.

Surf, I'm so glad you're happy in your new home. It's like a fresh start on everything.

I share with those of you who have commented on Trump. He's a pistol and I enjoy watching & listening to him, but I don't want to see him as President. If he is our nominee, of course I'll vote for him. I just think that Obama has set the bar so low for Presidents that anything could happen.

I enjoy watching Hillary squirm. I know a little about security clearances. I had a Secret clearance when I worked at RAND. Everyone took the rules and regulations seriously. I had an unclassified computer and an office in the main part of the building. If I was working on a classified project, I had to go to the secure section and I could only handle sensitive documents there. When I left my job, I gave up my clearance. I was debriefed and had to sign a paper certifying I had turned over anything classified in my possession and, under penalty of perjury, say I wouldn't talk about the work I did. My work was nothing compared to being Secretary of State for the country. If she is allowed to get away with this behavior, G-d help us all!

On that cheery note, I'll sign off. I'm heading to Georgia tomorrow morning. I can hardly wait to get my hands on those little munchkins! I'll report back when I return.

    Love you all!!!!

  2. Wog is having trouble posting. She asked me to let everyone know. She & Froggy are working on it.

  3. Eva, thanks for letting us know about Wog & Froggy. Hope you have a wonderful time with the munchkins!

Great to hear from you, Phooey. Is the flooding situation getting any better? Hurricane season is upon us. Hope you get dried out before those storms start happening. We had record-breaking rains this May and June. Nearly all of the lakes have been closed for recreational purposes until a week or two ago. Our severe drought was severely busted! Hope all the western states on fire get some rain soon.

The economy is horrible. It is beyond me to completely understand and articulate how corrupt people in power around the globe manipulate everything to serve their own interests. The thing I like about Donald Trump is that he is not afraid to open Pandora's Box. He knows these people, knows the game and how to play it. He is rattling cages we average people have wanted rattled for a long time. Hope he keeps it up, and even steps it up.

My son moved from Berkeley to NYC just before I made my move. We are having tons of fun sending each other pictures of our new places. He knows how much I love exploring new cities and can't wait to show me around NYC. I need to figure out the best time to take a vacation. Thanksgiving would be fun (he's a great cook and we love to cook together), Christmas would be fun because the city will be all dressed up, but New Year's would also be fun. I need to spend another week getting myself settled into my new place before focusing on making plans.

My sister and BIL also bought a house in the neighborhood of their dreams. It is a complete wreck, and they are in the middle of rehabbing it. It is going to be beautiful, and they are having a lot of fun making it just right. Good thing BIL is a general contractor. They know how to do everything, but it is a lot of work.

I'm going to some estate sales today in a beautiful, old part of town. I need a couple of chairs (hope to find seagrass or rattan or bamboo), a narrow sofa table, and a low console or credenza that I can rehab into a media center to hide all the TV, internet, printer cables and stuff. My budget this week is $200 ... so I won't be able to buy everything! I will have fun looking!

Froggy and Wog, thank you so much for the Pond. We have a lovely family here. I am so grateful. Love you!

  4. Wog said that she couldn't post on The Pond. Nonsense, I say. Let me try it.

    1. Froggy, is that really you? Are you home now? How are you feeling?

I have been busy with the grand kids for the last 2 weeks. Came home yesterday. Lots of smoke everywhere.

    2. Deer Gloria,
I came home Friday. It's hard for me to type. 'WOG is taking good care of me. She is the best sister. There are so many fires and smoke. Glad you and your family are safe.

  5. (I tried to post this on Sunday, blogger wouldn't let me. I'm trying again today.)

Hello Froggy! So glad to see you back here! I'm glad you're home. Yes, Wog must be the best sister ever!

I'm still working overtime, and trying to keep my head above water. I stayed at work until 7:00 on Friday, then worked another 8 hours this weekend from home. This is getting old, and so am I! I shouldn't complain when so many are out of work. I'm lucky to have a job.

It was great to hear from Phooey last week! I always enjoy it when he stops by.

Surfie, your plans to visit your son sound like so much fun! It's great that he enjoys cooking as much as you!

Eva, I feel the same way about Trump. I sure don't want him as president, but I like the way he's stirring things up. I just hope he doesn't suck all the air from the room. There are some good conservative candidates that aren't getting the attention they deserve because of the Trump show.

Gloria and Wog and Froggy, is there smoke in your area? I saw a map of Washington state, and we're on fire everywhere! My daughter is in Anacortes, on the coast, and she says there is smoke there. Clear over here in the east there is smoke too. I couldn't open the windows yesterday because of the smoke. I pray for the firefighters. They're even asking regular citizens to help fight the fires. Very sad.

I need to get ready for work tomorrow. Love and prayers to all the frog pond. Froggy, I hope you are on the road to recovery. Take care!

  6. Hello Froggy!!!!!! It is such a treat to hear from you! Just keep on getting better and type when you can. It makes me smile every time I think about you and Wog, how much you love each other and hang in there when life gets difficult. Love you both so very much!

This year's fires seem like the worst ever. I'm praying for the firefighters, too, and all the regular people doing what they can. Praying for rain.

Seems like a hurricane is heading toward Florida. Hope Phooey lets us know he is staying safe, and hope EC chimes in soon.

Paget, hope you get a break from the long hours soon. I'm 60, and back before the economy tanked was working horribly long hours. I'm too old for it! You are right about being lucky to have a job. The economy here is beyond horrible. We have layed off 15 people. I'm grateful that I have absolute job security, but it breaks my heart to have to let people go because they have families and I know they are going to have a very hard time finding another job.

    Aren't I a little ray of sunshine?

It is Friday after a stressful work week, and I am going to count my blessings and enjoy myself this weekend. I'm spending some time with my sister, then doing the only shopping that makes me happy: garage sales and the grocery story.

Hope all Deers have a good weekend!

    1. Hi Surfie, I am still trying to post. Don't know what happened.

  7. OH MY GOODNESS...blogger just took my post. I am soooo excited. Been sad and confused about not posting. Thought I may have to create a new blog somewhere so we could all keep in touch. I looked all over the Internet for solutions but nothing worked. I found a place to leave feedback, and even that wouldn't work. I had articles to post and comments about politics.

Eva, Surfie, Paget, Gloria...thanks for keep The Pond going. Don't know what we would have done without you. I see that Paget had trouble posting too. I need to find a way to get rid of the "Prove I am not a Robot." It's stupid and aggravating and not needed. Froggy just wanted a simple, easy blog for her friends.

Speaking of Froggy...she is resting and I am going to camp out of the sofa in front of TV today. Froggy sends her love to all of you. She and I both hope that everyone is safe from the fires and smoke. Phooey and EC...are you getting rain from the hurricane?

  8. I, the Great 'WOG, am so hopping happy to be back on The Pond. Think I'll put up a new pic for the weekend. I have new posts to make about politics, and ...about politics.

Seattle had such bad wind today that a tree almost tipped kitty-corner from our building. The tree trimmer and wood-chipper made so much noise that Froggy woke up.

    1. Hi Froggy, Wog, Paget, Eva, EC, Surf and Phooey. It is still only August. Summer shouldn't be over yet but I am so happy to be relieved of the extreme heat. We have had a little of everything.

Wasn't there a group called Wind Rain and Fire? Or maybe I just dreamed it.

      Delete
    2. Hi Gloria, yes the cool is welcome. I didn't hear the wind, but there are tree limbs and twigs on the sidewalks in Seattle. City had to cut down a tree across the street because it was leaning. Made for some afternoon excitement watching the "cherry-picker" saw off limbs, and listening to the wood chipper.

I think the group might be "Earth Wind and Fire." Maybe other Ponders know.

  9. Great Wog, the "prove not a robot" confused me at first. If you take time to really look at it, and scroll down the screen, it really isn't hard. I've done it so many times that Blogger now recognizes me and has cut down on some of the steps. I hope you don't move this to another site. Then we would all have to learn the new site rules!

The winds and heat and fires are just awful. There are always fires in the western part of our country, but I don't recall a year quite like this. Praying for rain.

I think there is a raccoon living in the crawl space under my house. Heard some thumping around under the bathtub a few days ago. This morning, before the sun came up, a raccoon was on my front porch. Made me a little nervous. I checked everything inside to make myself comfortable that a raccoon (or squirrel or mouse or rat) could not get inside. Think all is OK!

The light bulb on my front porch burned out. My mission today is to replace it, which will deter the raccoon from feeling comfortable there. Problem is, the light is on the "ceiling" of the front porch so I had to buy a stepladder to get to it. Oh, well, $17 is money well spent to keep a raccoon from getting too comfortable.

I think the raccoon hangs around here because there is a mature pecan tree in my neighbor's yard, and raccoons like pecans.

    Love you Deers!

    1. Hi Surfie, exciting to hear about your new place. Hope it is everything that you wanted. We love to hear about your adventures.

I think we had possums under our trailer when we lived in San Diego. They look mean. The snarly little creatures used to come up on the porch and look in the front door.

  10. Hi Ladies,
A few weeks ago when we had so much rain...the frogs around here were busy... well, doing frog stuff. Then we had thousands(literally) of little tiny frogs everywhere. We would open a door and frogs would jump on us or inside both home and car. Page and I both love frogs however, that was a bit much. Now, it looks like history might repeat itself with Erika. The weather forcast looks grim for the tampa bay area because of flooding. Now, I need to get busy storing water and finding all our emergency items. Hoping our phone, internet and tv doesn't quit. Love to all .. will try to comment more today.

  12. I'm back from Georgia and facing the reality of not having Bambu anymore. No sweet, little face waiting to greet me as I came in the door. It's so quiet here now. I didn't get the chance to say goodbye. I have to hand it to Joe, though. He made the right decision, handled everything, and dealt with the pain of losing our little furball without me for support.

I had a wonderful visit with my family, but I just don't feel like talking about it. I'll be back later.

    2. Thank you, Phooey. It means a lot. I got a lovely email from Wog & Froggy who also were crying. I have to believe he is with his brothers now.
