  1. Howdy Ponders...I can't say "Howdy" without thinking of Minnie Pearl on the Grand Ole Opry.

My sweet, funny, smart Sis is back home. This time I am going to work with her on the exercises. (She doesn't know that, so we'll keep it a secret!)

Does everyone have plans for a fun weekend? I get three days off...and I appreciate the time at home. Not because I have great, exciting adventures planned, but because I can stay up late, snooze in (with no alarm clock), look at news on the Internet, play online card and word games.

Oh, and did I mention take another nap! I also signed up for Hulu. I was missing some of my favorite shows. Now I come home at anytime and can watch the shows on my computer. I am still amazed about today's technologies.

Doctor has told me to stop eating sugar. I believe him. I was eating 2-3 Reese's Peanut Butter Cups every day. So now I am snacking on nuts and potato chips....until doctor says no more salt and fat! Froggy doesn't like all the crunching. How do you eat potato chips quietly?

  2. Reminder to self: 'WOG, learn to post videos on The Pond.

Ponders, You'll enjoy this one. Made me gasp...and then burst in laughter!

  4. Welcome home, Froggy! Hope you can post soon. We miss you! The beautiful starfish you gave me is on my dresser and makes me smile so many times every day. Thank you!

Love the videos, Wog. It is nice to have good news and something happy to watch!

I'm running errands today, family cookout at my sister's tomorrow, puttering around my new place Monday. It is SO good to have 3 days off work!

My old little car has been kind of sluggish. Tuesday morning, it wouldn't start. Have to say that $50 per year for AAA is the best money I spend. They were here in 30 minutes, ran a diagnostic on my starter and alternator and battery. Just needed a new battery. They had the battery recommended by the mfg for my car on the truck. Long story short, it was 1-1/2 hours from the call until I was back on the road, and I spent $137 for a new battery with 6 year warranty. HAPPY!

What is everyone doing this weekend?

    1. Hi Surfie, I always had AAA when I had a car. They saved me many times...especially in the Denver snow. Batteries don't like the cold. I will let Froggy know about your new place. Don't know when she can type a post, but maybe I can type what she wants to say.

  5. I'm just hanging around the house this weekend. Since it's the last big weekend of the summer, our area is packed with people. I'll be so happy when it's too cold to go to the beach. That ought to get rid of the crowds. Hopefully, there are some good TV marathons on.

    1. Hi Eva, what TV marathons do you enjoy? Our Phooey really loves NCIS.

  6. Good morning, deer Ponders. My sister called me last night and asked that I bring a couple of dishes to her house today (last family pool party of the summer). Poor thing is worn out. They bought a new house, which they gutted and are rebuilding, while getting their current house ready to sell. She thinks she can do everything, but finally hit the wall yesterday. I'm on my way to the grocery store to get the things I need to make a pasta salad and Mexican layer dip.

Had a great talk with my son yesterday. Moving to NYC is turning out to be one of the best decisions he's ever made. He absolutely loves living there, and it looks like this move will bring great things to his career. Warning: MOM BRAG - he was not at all qualified to get a job in the meat department of Whole Foods in Oakland, but talked his way into it. Two years later, he was head of that department and turned it into the 7th most successful in the world.

Anyway, Whole Foods is getting ready to film new national campaign ads, and my one and only child has been chosen to be in them. That boy continues to make me a proud mama. Can't wait to visit him in his new city (probably New Years Eve).

    1. Surfie, that is too exciting about your son. He certainly learned how to create success and how to be successful. Have you been to New York? I was there in 1966 for a month. I think that is before the Twin Towers were built. You will have a lot to see if you've never been there. Better get those plane tickets early!

  7. WOG says: Maybe you've seen this recent story, but I wanted to share it for anyone who has not read about it. Nice to know that there are still honorable American! Here is my comment about the story: Protect your police; they protect you!

Here's the headline on Daily Mail:
'Ma'am, do you mind if I stand behind you to make sure you're safe?': Female Texas cop bowled over by teen who wanted to protect her at gas station a week after Houston officer was gunned down at the pump

    1. I read that story the other day and it gave me hope that decent people here are starting to speak out and stand up. And getting press coverage! One of my nephews is a police officer in Kansas City. Please keep Zach in your prayers. He is a 6'5" all muscle refrigerator of a man, but it only takes one teeny bullet to take him or his brothers in blue down.

  8. ...and then there are the stories that are too stupid for words.

Headline on Daily Mail reads: University of Tennessee tells staff and students to stop using 'he' and 'she' - and switch to 'xe', 'zir' and 'xyr' instead

    1. Instapundit wrote about this on his blog. I think he is a law professor at UT. Political correctness is on its way to being kicked to the curb, hopefully. So many people are starting to speak up.

  9. WOG says...I have been saving up a lot of interesting tidbits from the news. It never would occur to me to do this. In fact, I've always said..."I never turn on my cell phone unless my car breaks down or I order a pizza."

    1. I'm not Catholic and mean no disrespect to any Catholic's faith. Pope Francis strikes me as true blue socialist. He and Obama will probably have a grand time together when he visits the United States.

  10. WOG says: Seattle is happy about the increase in our resident Orcas. Taking a boat to see these beautiful whales is probably our number one attraction. Here's another feel-good story.

Four baby orca calves beating the odds
    By Amy Clancy /kirotv

    SAN JUAN ISLANDS, Wash. —
After three years without a successful birth, four orca calves have been born since December 2014 and so far, all have survived.

The four new calves are giving biologists and whale-watchers hope that the endangered species might be healthier than it's been in years.

    1. True story. DH and I were married in a little restaurant on the sand in Malibu, on the 2nd floor of the building which was all glass and faced the ocean. Right in the middle of the I-do's, a pod of Orca whales swam by. Don't normally see Orcas that far south. Needless to say, the whole ceremony stopped while we oo'd and aah'd at those magnificent creatures!

  11. I spent a wonderful day yesterday swimming with my sister, the family, and old friends. I was the last family get-together at their current home. Sis started to get a little sad about it. Truth is, we told her, we will make just as many memories in your new house. My siblings and I are in our early 60's. Our kids are now having babies. There were 5 little kids under the age of 7, plus a newborn. Yes, we will make many memories in the new house.

When I moved to California, I gave my sister a lot of family things that I dearly loved but didn't feel good about moving with me. Guess what? Yesterday, she gave them back to me. The small things are in my house right now. There are 4 pieces of furniture that will come back to me after sister's house sells.

Sis and I have always had a special bond. It got a little rocky when I moved home to OKC because we had to really get to know each other while living in the same city. Having different opinions and ways of doing things don't matter when you live half a continent away and see each other one week per year. Living in the same city caused some getting used to. I am SO happy to report that my sis and I have gotten used to each other's differences, are having fun with them, and are right back into the seriously deep and fun relationship we've enjoyed since forever. I am so very happy with my personal life.

Wog and Frog, you can identify. Sisters are the best!

Love you, Deers. What is everyone doing today?

    1. Surfie, I always enjoy your long, newsy posts. Yes, Sisters are the Best. Really special that you got some of your furniture back, stuff you thought you'd never see again. You have an Angel watching over you...a very kind, loving, thoughtful Angel.
