"HAVELOCK | Corwin “Bud” Strong retired from the U.S. Navy in 1950, but in a big way, he never left.

“It’s like old home,” he said. “I feel part of them. Even though I have been away for a long time, my heart’s still with the Navy.”

Strong, 88, of New Bern, was among members of the Navy League of the United States, Coastal Carolina Council, who attended a ceremony Tuesday at Naval Health Clinic Cherry Point to celebrate the 240th anniversary of the Navy."

"Koko, a western lowland gorilla famous for her ability to communicate about 1,000 words in sign language and understand about 2,000 spoken English words, stars in a YouTube video posted by the Gorilla Foundation, the California nonprofit that cares for the primate.

The video features Koko's encounter with a box full of kittens on her 44th birthday July 4. The gorilla appears immediately enamored with a kitten dubbed Ms. Gray and soon takes a liking to a second kitten dubbed Ms. Black."

  3. Back from Georgia. My seat mate on the plane had an adorable 10 week old kitten with her. Once we were in the air, we took turns holding him. She fed him treats and I let him drink from my water. He was so interested in everything and a wonderful traveler. He didn't want to be put back in his carrier when we landed and he protested in his sweet high pitched voice. Made the trip very enjoyable.

My visit home was lovely and sad. We unveiled the stone on my sister's grave and felt some closure finally. Being with the family was fun as usual. Isaac & little Nathaniel are such treasures! They really wore me out. My niece looks ready to pop any day even though she isn't due until Dec. 7. She'll never make it. I'm thinking little Tallulah is going to make her appearance some time in mid-November.

Watched the Dem debate with my father. We had fun talking back to those bozos. My niece and her circle are all in love with Bernie Sanders. They don't even know what a Socialist is! Well, at least they don't like Hillary. I'm not worried that Sanders will get the nomination.

Hope all my Ponders are well!

    1. Deer Eva, so glad that you had a safe trip and wonderful visit with your family. Froggy and I would love to have a kitten, but no room or time right now.

I watched both Dem and GOP debates. Froggy fell asleep somewhere along the way. Seems to be a lot of excitement this time. Will The Hill get nomination or will Joe Biden step in at the last minute and take all her support? Will The Donald maintain his lead or will someone more sane be chosen. He does know how to run a business, and I think he would bring business and jobs back to the U.S.. But can he be diplomatic with other world leaders? I also think he would increase our military and close the borders. Politics makes me nervous.

    2. Joe just asked tonight what does it say about our country that the front runners are an arrogant, egotistical blowhard vs a woman who should be in prison? We're in a sorry state right now and I don't know what it will take to turn things around.

    3. Hi Eva, you described our political choices very well! Our forefathers never meant for our government to be so out of control and so clandestine and so back-stabbing and so beyond-payable-debt, etc.

They put rules in place to keep our government "honest." What happened to that concept? Honesty, integrity, and really caring about our country. None of these concepts exist anymore!

  5. Been catching up on everyone's comments. Glad you're home, Eva, and had such a wonderful time. NCIS, Phooey!!! Hi to Frog and Wog and all deers.

The whole political thing is like amateur hour. It's been amateurish for so many cycles. Sometimes it wears me out and I want to ignore it all. Then I remember how important it is and keep paying attention. Eva, I have a niece who is voting for Bernie Sanders. She can be in a room with the whole family ... challenging the socialist talking points. She is stuck like a deer in the headlights. Oh, well. We just keep trying to shine through the fog.

I'm pretty stressed out at work. It would take an epistle for me to write down what is going on. It could get very ugly in the next month or so. Please say a prayer for my company. I can always find another job but don't want to. Pray, please! Loving my new house and new neighborhood really is a stress reliever.

    Love you Deers!
