    1. Howdy Phooey, Happy Ground Hog Day to you too. Heard that he didn't see his shadow. Sis and I are ready for some decent weather.

Did anyone watch the Iowa Caucus? Trump came in second!

    2. Morning to all. Hey, Phooman! Hey Frog Sisters! I didn't watch the caucus. I am just not into Fox any more and I certainly don't watch the other networks. By the time the primaries get to us in Washington state the decisions have been made. Hope the caucuses really narrow down the field. What in the world causes politicians to run for president when they don't have a snowballs chance to even come close to winning. All the money spent could be better spent on other things.

Today is Ground Hog day. Celeste has had some interesting thoughts on this big holiday, namely that a groundhog is a mammal that lives in the ground and hogs stuff. Or is it Gram Hog's Day? Nah.

Wog, have you ever been to the Northwest Flower and Garden Show? I used to go every year and looked forward to it. These days I am so afraid of driving in Seattle. There are so many things to see but my fear seems to paralyze me.

      Have a good day.

  3. Even after paying more attention to Iowa than I had in the past, I still don't understand the whole process. The parts I do understand seem ridiculous to me. What a dumb way to start off an election. On the Dem side, a coin-toss (and one that Hillary won every time)? The odds of that are out of sight. I think the night was a huge win for Bernie.

As for the GOP, I don't know what to say. I think Trump will be taking things more seriously now. I can't warm up to Ted Cruz and I'm liking Marco more and more. I don't know what's going to happen.

    1. I don't understand the political process in this country either. And Trump...what was he thinking? You need to attend everything no matter how silly it seems. He snubbed Iowa...and he lost! If you are spending your own money ...MILLIONS... wouldn't you want to win? Then you have to play by the rules.

    2. Yes Wog/Froggy, we did have some warm weather for a few days.... now cool, dry air and windy.. burrrr!.. I'm freezing my buns off.
EC, how are your eyes now ?
Gloria, Eva, Paget, Surfie..... I'm waving at you !

  4. Good morning! Nice to hear from everyone. The weather has been coldish (50's and windy), but we haven't really had winter here yet. The tulip and daffodil bulbs are starting to come up. Way too early. My fear is that winter will finally arrive and kill them. All I can do is keep them covered in leaf mulch and hope for the best.

The whole Iowa caucus was a disaster, on both sides of the aisle. IMHO, a caucus just swings the door to corruption wide open.

I'm all in for Donald Trump. I've thought for a long time that Ted Cruz is a snake, and what he did to Ben Carson in the caucus sealed it for me. Rubio is a bought and paid for lightweight, and he was destroyed in yesterday's debate. My tin foil hat tells me that Christie took Rubio out by GOPe design. They will both drop out and endorse Jeb. Santorum and Jindal have endorsed Rubio, so their backing will also go to Jeb. The GOP elite want Jeb, so that's the plan, but they weren't counting on The Donald to mess up their strategy.

I want a fearless man, a business man, who truly loves the United States and is not owned by globalist money, in the White House.

BTW, don't buy the media spin that Trump lost Iowa. He didn't come in 1st, for sure. It's all about delegate counts. Cruz won 8. Trump won 7. I'll bet a dollar that 3rd place Rubio's delegates will go to Jeb. The fix is in, or so our elites thought/think. GO DONALD!

I was first eligible to vote in 1972. Richard Nixon. The only candidate I have been excited about until now was Ronald Reagan. That's a whole lot of "holding my nose" elections.

I don't mean to offend any friends here on the Pond. This election is crucial to our existence, our special place we used to hold in the world. I want America back. I want our allies to trust us and our enemies to fear us. TRUMP!

    1. Good Morning Surfie and Pond Family...My computer is screwy, and I have trouble getting to The Pond. Using Froggy's computer this morning for a few minutes.

I agree Surfie. I don't see any candidate that's better than Trump. He is probably the only one that can beat Hillary - unless the position has been "promised" to her. Too bad that there is so much cheating and corruption in our government. It was never meant to be so huge and unwieldy and unethical.

I'll try to get a new pic and news up this afternoon.

Anybody watch the Super Bowl? We watched all four hours! I wore my Bronco's t-shirt. Froggy was born in Denver so she is hopping up and down at the win.

    2. Hi folks. Just wanted to say a few things before we move to a new page. First, Surfie know that I would not be offended by anything that you say. Which is easy since we all seem to be like minded.

Another thing I have been watching is that the New Hampshire primary will be requiring a legal picture ID!!!! Finally states are getting it right. I have already heard about a lot of people being "disenfranchised" (bogus argument.)

So happy Broncos won. Manning goes out with a big win. Honor, humility and class, three things sadly missing from Cam.

  5. What a great, great Super Bowl!! I'm so happy for the Bronco's and especially, Peyton.

Surfie, I love your passion! I know what you're feeling. I don't care for Cruz and I think Ben Carson needs to bow out soon. I guess Rubio, et al will wait until after New Hampshire.

  6. Love you all ! Hope everyone is OK.

  7. Stoopid Computer...Bullwinkle used to say something like that. Anyway, guess I'll need to change Pond Pic from Froggy's computer.

Froggy thanks everyone for kudos on Bronco win...and I do too. You know that we watched it! Gotta see the commercials even if you don't like football.

Politics this time around is really interesting and suspenseful. I get up every morning and check news for latest statistics. Trump continues to amaze. And Bernie Sanders is giving Hillary a headache. I'm sure that she thought she would win. I think that Trump is the only one that can beat Hillary. Sanders??? I don't know.

    What's after New Hampshire?

    2. Phooey, I just like the "old way" of doing computers with the desktop. Just not into APPS. Guess I'll have to get used to APPs sooner or later. But I'm resisting. Also sometimes I have to wait for a website to pop up. That's annoying.

What do you think about Windows 10? Don't want to install it and have to learn new things.

  8. Hello dear pond friends,

I've been fighting a virus the last two weeks. I'm finally feeling better so thought I'd stop by.

I've also been closely following the debates and the caucuses. I see how enthusiastic everyone here is about Trump, so I thought I'd offer a different perspective. (I'm glad we are able to be ourselves, and give our honest opinions at the pond!) I agree that Trump is very charismatic, and it's easy to see why he has so many followers. He says he's going to fix our problems, and since he's been a success in the business world, and is a billionaire, everyone believes him. I think he's tapped into a lot of anger that everyone feels after the last 7 years of Obama. Let me tell you, I sure feel the pain too! What concerns me is that Trump is a deal maker. That is what we have right now in Washington, too many people making deals to get along.

My guy is Ted Cruz. I find him to be a very honorable man. The media, and the left and right have done a great smear job on Ted. But Ted Cruz did exactly what he promised the people of Texas he would do when he got to Washington. He stuck to his guns. The Republican cartel couldn't bend him, and that shows me that he has true grit. He is the smartest man out there, and he is very humble. I've heard him interviewed several times, and he does have a sense of humor and is a kind man. Here is a link that Mark Levin posted today, that debunks the anti-Cruz myths. http://noisyroom.net/blog/2016/02/11/watch-debunking-anti-cruz-myths-video. One rumor I've heard many times is that Ted Cruz stole Ben Carson's caucus votes. It just isn't true. The CNN broadcasters broke the news right before the caucus that Carson was taking a break, giving the impression that he was leaving the campaign. Anyone with a mobile phone had access to that information. Truth be told; Marco Rubio, Rand Paul, and even Donald Trump campaigners all tried to use that information to their advantage. But Ted Cruz was the only one to apologize for his staff. If anything, CNN should apologize to Ted Cruz. I just hate to see a good man maligned, and in my opinion, that is what is happening to Ted Cruz. Some say he isn't very likeable. I don't care if a president is likeable. We have one right now that everyone on the left swooned over before he was elected. He was cool. I just want a president who will restore our constitution, and I believe Ted Cruz will do that.

Okay, I'll get off my soap box now. Just for clarification, I don't want Bernie or Hillary for president. God forbid! If I have to I'll vote for Donald Trump, even if I have to hold my nose! :)

I love you guys, and I hope I haven't offended you. I'm sure I haven't changed any minds, but I really think Ted Cruz could help our country get back on track. I just pray that everything will work out.

    Love and prayers,

    Paget

    1. Hi Paget, love your post. Hope you are feeling better. Sis and I are so tired of dreary days. Need a little sunshine...and birdies in trees and flowers. At least we are warmer than a lot of the USA.

Yes, we need president who loves the country...really LOVES this country. What we need is someone who beat Hillary!!!!

      My wish..."Oh, please, beat Hillary!"

  9. Love your post, Paget! As a Trump supporter, I am not offended at all. What a great country we have, and what a wonderful place The Pond is! At the end of the day, our country can not survive with either Bernie or Hillary in the Oval Office. If you want to know where I'm coming from, visit The Conservative Treehouse.

Enough of politics. How is everyone doing? My sister's birthday is Tuesday the 16th. A new Uptown Grocery opened near me, and I hear they have great flowers at a fraction of Whole Food's prices. Hope to get her a nice orchid for her birthday. We sisters love flowers as gifts!

I took yesterday and today off work because I'm thinking about starting a food history blog, not just for fun but for profit. So I'm researching how to do it the right way during these 4 days. I know what I want to blog about, but need to figure out so many technical things, and will need to invest some money. Done well, I think I can earn a good income after I retire from my job.

I am passionate about both history and food. Back in the day when homeschooling my son, I incorporated food into history & science to make it more real to him. Example: What George Washington was able to feed the troops when the Revolutionary War was thought to be lost. We actually made the soup he made his cook scrounge up while studying the war. My son GOT IT what our founders went through.

Anyway, I'm thinking of blogging about historical events like that, presidential inauguration menus (Abraham Lincoln requested his favorite blackberry pie), history of the Bloody Mary or Baby Ruth candy bar, who was St. Valentine and how did this holiday come about.

Do any Deer Ponders think you might want to read a blog like that? If so, what about a name?
    Eat Your History
    Hungry History
    History Bites
    Dishing History
    History Delicious
    Tasty History

    Any ideas for a name?

Love you Deers. Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

  10. Wog, this is such a good discussion it would be nice to keep it going through the weekend. Just a sugestion.

Paget and Surf, I am on the fence as far as choosing between Cruz and Trump goes. Agree that Cruz is smart and knows the law and constitution. Trump would be OK with me too. I think he knows stuff that he can't reveal. I sometimes wonder if he really wants to be president or if he wants to keep things stirred up as long as possible. Look at all the things he has brought out that no one else will talk about. We are one of the last states to vote. We will have a republican primary and Dems will caucus. wonder what dirty tricks they will be up to this time.

Surf, what ever you call your blog I will be reading it. I kind of like the sound of Dishing History.

Ponders, what do you know about HB1315? It was passed and the prez signed it.
Concerns our Social Security. I am confused and wonder why a bigger deal wasn't made about it as we stand to loose $$$. Now you can see why people are so mad at Washington.

  12. I'll be your Valentine, Phooey. Always :)

I have to say that after last night's debate, Trump has lost me. W is responsible for 9/11? He asked Nancy Pelosi why she didn't impeach W for going into Iraq since he knew ahead of time that there were no WMD? Is he crazy? He turned me off so completely and Joe, as well. I'm with everyone here in that I'll vote for any R in place of Hillary or Bernie, but Trump severely turned me off!

Terrible, terrible news about Antonin Scalia! If Obama nominates another Justice and he gets confirmed by the spineless GOP Senate, our country is over. May Scalia RIP and may his family be comforted in this time of sorrow. May his memory be a blessing.

    1. Hi Deer Eva...Hi to Joe. Hope you are staying warm. Guess East Coast got a "cold snap!"

Politics is scary right now. Actually it's been scary since Obama became president. I like that Trump says things that no one else says...but he does shoot off his mouth! He doesn't need to go around the world and offend other leaders.

Losing Scalia was a shock. Froggy read that the Senate can delay nominating a new Justice until we get a new president. So that will be the "new fight" for the next many months. And if new pres. is The Hill, then all the waiting doesn't matter.

I wonder what our Forefathers who planned our country as carefully as they could, would think of all the corruption, lying, cheating...and if I may say...stupidity?

  13. Yes, Phooey, I will be your valentine. You have a lot of Pond Valentines! Surfie Smooch!

The weather is beyond weird around here. It's February, and we usually have ice storms and such. While looking out the windows right now, I see Robins and Blue Jays building nests. Those birds are beautiful! Daffodills and tulips are blooming already. The "experts" said we would have a more cold and wet winter here. So much for the experts.

I don't want to turn this into a political blog, but have to say that Trump was up against a stacked deck yesterday. The whole debate was a disaster, with the paid for "audience" and liberal "moderators." Let's call a spade a spade. It was an elite setup.

I love W because he comforted us after 9/11. He had been in office for NINE MONTHS. I want a president who will be up to speed DAY ONE. TRUMP 2016.

    2. Love you Surfie. Froggy and I keep up with the weather around the country. Heard there was an earthquake in Oklahoma. Seattle is in the middle of rain, rain, rain. You are right about the plants and trees. They don't know what to do. We have a couple ornamental trees outside our window that are starting to bloom. Haven't seen the Robins yet. They usually show up when it rains...good time for earthworms eating!

I like TRUMP because he says what needs to be said (all the things that we are thinking!) but I'm afraid for him to say the wrong thing before world leaders. But then again will Hillary say and do everything right?

  14. Just saw on TV that the decision to delay picking Supreme Court Justice is called the (Strom) Thurmond Rule from 1968.

Yes, Deer Pond Family, you can talk about anything on The Pond. Froggy's only rule is not to be mean to each other. Different Opinions don't count as mean. That's why she made The Pond. We can disagree and we still love each other!

Hi Phoobers...Ponders agree that you are our Number-One-Valentines! Froggy-Smoochies to you!

I am making a pot roast in pressure cooker and mashed potatoes today. The apartment is smelling delicious. Bet it smells good all down the hall. Will make everyone on our floor hungry.

Has anyone watched the X-Files? Only six episodes. Probably a trial to see if anyone would watch. We were disappointed and bored. Scully doesn't look like the Scully we knew before. And last week she walked around with tight blouse ...mostly unbuttoned. Guess Phooey would like that. Was a distraction from the story.

The first two episodes were boring. One episode was a comedy. Wonder what kind of audience they pulled on Nielson Rating.

Surfie, how's the business going? Was it a good decision for you to stay with company?
