    1. Howdy, HikerGal...so nice to hear from you. We miss you at The Pond. You need to catch us up on any news. How's the baby? Must be getting big.

  3. Yikes, Hiker! Take care of yourself.

I got a brace for my hand yesterday. It's good if only to remind me not to use it. You should have seen me trying to put the car in gear with my other hand. I can drive okay, but going from Park to Reverse to Drive or whatever was awkward.

I need to find a way to cook. Yesterday, I made pasta for dinner, but I had to wait for Joe to come home and open cans.

    1. Gee Eva, can't imagine what you did to your hand. Whatever it was, don't do it again. You don't realize how you need your hands and feet and neck to drive until you hurt something. Joe is a sweetheart to take such good care of you.

  4. Good morning Ponders. Good to have Hiker back. Sounds like geting rabies shots has changed.

Eva, do you want us to sing Soft Kitty for you? A sprained wrist is a kind of sick.

Have to go to library today. I waited a long time for The Oath by Jeffery Toobin. It was hard to read what I did read and dissapointing. I was wanting to find out the details of the messed up oath of office. Especially since there has been talk of Obama only doing a private swearing in. I have a new middle name. It is Conspiracy.

    1. Yes, there is too many "conspiracies" going on in the current administration.

    2. Yes, I love Soft Kitty!

I'm feeling very low. I can't seem to do anything I'm used to doing. I'm very bad with my left hand. It doesn't work right :(

Ah well, tomorrow is another day (now I'm Scarlett O'Hara)

    3. Dear Eva, Don't be discouraged. It's only been a few days. Hurt muscles, wrists, ankles take time. The brace should help a lot, though they get annoying to wear sometimes. Wear it as much as you can.

You know all of us Ponders stick together, and we'll be here for you. Sometimes I am up til midnight when I am not working. I always drop by The Pond to see if anyone is around. Right now I am going on search for another interesting news article to post.

  5. NEWS FROM THE NEWS:

"The NRA, founded in 1871, was among six other gun owners' groups that met with the vice president for a little more than an hour and a half Thursday afternoon. Attorney General Eric Holder, Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood, and Secretary of Education Arne Duncan also attended the session.

"The meetings, which began on Wednesday, focused on seeking solutions to curb gun violence in light of such mass shootings as the Dec. 14 killings at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., in which 20 children and six adults died.

"Before joining the Biden session, Holder met with representatives of Wal-Mart — the world’s largest purveyor of guns, ammunition and accessories — and eight other gun retailers. Wal-Mart officials initially had declined to meet with the vice president.

"Biden started off the series of meetings on Wednesday by indicating that President Barack Obama might bypass Congress and invoke executive authority to implement some of the recommendations — sparking outrage among conservatives, gun enthusiasts and other supporters."

  6. NEWS FROM THE NEWS:

"President Obama is putting a symbolic twist on a time-honored tradition, taking the oath of office for his second term with his hand placed not on a single Bible, but two -- one owned by Martin Luther King Jr. and one by Abraham Lincoln.

"The inclusion of King's Bible is particularly significant since the inauguration comes on Jan. 21, the federal holiday in honor of the civil rights leader, who delivered his "I Have a Dream" speech 50 years ago at the Lincoln Memorial. Obama will be facing the memorial as he takes the oath. King's Bible, which his children say he used early in his career as a preacher, has never been part of a presidential inauguration.

"Though there is no constitutional requirement for the use of a Bible while taking the oath, George Washington began the tradition with a Bible hastily grabbed from St. John's Masonic Lodge No. 1 for his swearing-in on April 30, 1789, in New York. Since then, presidents have typically chosen Bibles with historical or personal significance, many using family heirlooms. Obama is not the first president to select two Bibles -- Harry Truman did so in 1949, Dwight Eisenhower in 1953 and Richard Nixon in 1969."
