  1. Good morning Deers! Arrived safe and sound. Am staying at a charming little B&B in Berkeley. Great to see my boy and meet his girlfriend. She is wonderful.

We're going to the America's Cup finals races today, Pier 39, Fisherman's Wharf. Also The Presidio and Golden Gate Park if we have time.

Glad to see Eva and Joe are nearly home.

Wog, please let us know about Froggy's doctor visit.

    Love you all!

    1. Hi Surfie, Glad you arrived safely in San Francisco. I didn't know they had B&B's at such a good price! Have a great time! :)

  2. SURFIE, How exciting to hear from you! Everything you have planned sounds like so much fun. All the famous places. B&B are the best.

I'll write later today with Froggy update.

    1. This little place is only $70/night. Cheapest hotel room I could find that was safe was $200/night. This place is owned by a young woman. My room has a fireplace, private bath, very comfy bed, door out to a little patio area. Blocks from little cafe's and the BART station. Bus stops right in front of the house. Not far from where my son lives. Wonderful!

    2. Surfie,
Sounds perfect! Froggy always wanted to own a B&B around Eureka Springs, Arkansas. (up in the north west corner of the state)

  4. Hi All,

Good to hear from you, Surfie. Enjoy the visit to the max (I know you will). Everything is messed up here. Our shipment will arrive who knows when and on 2 trucks. Why we weren't told that ahead of time (or at least before today?) Sigh. I think my car will show up tomorrow. Joe's truck won't come until after the weekend. Why they were put on different carriers is another mystery.

The roads are still all torn up and construction vehicles rule the land. Half of the rebuilt Seaside Heights boardwalk caught on fire this afternoon and Joe (who was out running errands)just beat the road closures home. I just can't imagine how much more these poor people can be expected to take. They've worked so hard to get back to semi-normalcy after Sandy and now will have to start again. Frankly, this is what I've come to expect in Obama's America.

On the other hand, it isn't all bad. Waking up to the smell of the ocean and the sound of seagulls. I am so not in Los Angeles anymore. Yay!

    1. Love ya Eva...Glad you made it!
      You'll be okay. Just a little glitch. Do like I do...Make a Plan B.
Froggy and I are West Coast people...but we have so many good memories from a trip we took to the East Coast...driving from Denver. Was a wonderful trip.

    2. Hi Eva, I bet it's good to be home, even with the moving truck delays. :) I feel sorry too for the people of NJ, and all they've had to deal with.

Today on the Mark Levin show, I heard that Steve Lonegan is the Republican running against Cory Booker for the NJ senate. I sure hope he gets it!

  5. Froggy Update:
She had a good trip back to Seattle in care center van. Then I took over at Virginia Mason Hospital...Let me translate that statement! I got to push the wheelchair.

I had practiced the route from her van, up and down halls and elevators, to the doctors office, and back again to the starting point.

It went well. Let me translate that statement! That means I didn't get lost while pushing Froggy's wheelchair.

So the Update part is that Froggy gets to stay at care center another four weeks. She seems okay with that.

Second piece of news: "WOG has a birthday on Saturday. I will be 73. Can't we make that 37 just for one day! I also wrote on my calendar that it's Surfie's birthday too. Is it? Is it?

    1. Hi Wog, Glad to hear the hospital visit went smoothly. Virginia Mason hospital has a great reputation. Sounds like Froggy is making the best of the situation. I'm sure it isn't easy, when she'd much rather be at home. Praying that she gets well soon!

Saturday will be a special day with two birthdays to celebrate at The Pond! :)

  6. Friday Morning...Cold in Seattle, but it will warm up later. I'm getting ready to visit Froggy early today. I like to go with her to her therapy.

Waiting for Surfie to check in. Let us know if it's your Birthday Saturday.

Eva, what's up with the fires up your way? Are you feeling better about the move yet. It will be better when you get all your things. We had to wait for our stuff too. We stayed in a hotel for a couple weeks. Next time, I'd have everything stored at the destination end of the trip.

Boulder, Colorado is still getting more rain. The flash floods can be very dangerous there. Boulder is west of Denver, and just on the edge before you go up into the mountains. The flash floods can happen easily by starting high up. Then the water is squeezed into canyons which bring it right into the towns.

I lived in Denver with Sis when this happened in the Big Thompson Canyon, 1976. It rained over 10-inches. And I think a dam broke. Too much water caused the river to swell quickly way up the mountain. All that water came really fast down the canyon, and swept away 145 people who were camped along the river. They have signs in the canyons to climb to higher ground in case of floods.

  7. Checking in! Yes, my birthday is Saturday 9/14. I'll be 59. Just getting ready for today's adventures. There is so much to do here!

Glad to hear Froggy's appointment went well yesterday. I know you two can't wait until she can come back home. Hang in there!

Eva, you hang in there too! Such a big move like you and Joe are making is such a huge deal. You'll get through this and all will be well!

    Take care everyone!

  9. Back home from another adventure. Haight Asbury and Chinatown. The Haight was a vintage clothing store mecca. The kids were bored with it, but I had a blast.

Chinatown was beyond fun. We stopped in a little tea shop to do some free tea tasting. None of us got out of there before dropping about $40 each. I drink a lot of tea, so splurged for a bag of Rose Oolong. Also a bag of dried tea flower buds. You drop one into a glass of water, and it slowly blooms and sends a wonderful aroma into the air. Who knew air freshener could be so wonderful? The chocoholic in me just HAD to buy a bar of dark chocolate with ylang ylang, cinnamon and coconut.

We did our research, went down a side alley off the main drag to a REAL Chinese diner. It was next to a market where the locals were buying their groceries. People at the diner were buying the veggies there and cooking them in front of us. I had the most wonderful, authentic Chinese food (more than I could eat) for $4.50. Only 1 person working there spoke English. We just pointed at what we wanted. Fun!

Then we went to the oldest Buddhist temple in the U.S. While in the reception hall, a young man was talking to someone and I overheard him say he was from Oklahoma. I was wearing my OKC Thunder t-shirt. Got his attention, pointed to my shirt, and everyone had a good laugh. We live about 3 miles from each other!

Birthday tomorrow, and my last day here. We're staying in Berkeley. Going to the Farmers' Market, doing a little shopping. My son has a friend from college who is the chef at a fancy-schmancy restaurant. He's taking me there for my birthday dinner.

Needless to say, I'm having a wonderful time. Since he was born, at every age of my son's life, I've always thought "this is my favorite age." Spending time with him now that he's an adult and on his own makes me think THIS is "my favorite age."

Will try to check in tomorrow. Have to leave before early-thirty Sunday to catch my flight back to OKC. Arriving in OKC around 1:00 PM so I'll have time to unwind and go back to work on Monday.

    1. Wonderful news Surfie, only wish you had more time to spend with your son.
Speaking of tea, Page and I love Snapple Green Tea though I find it a bit pricey at $1 a bottle even when we dilute it with water 3 to 1. Anyway, getting sleepy here.... nite, nite.

  10. Just read everyone's posts. It lifts my heart to read them. I went downstairs when I got home today. They show a movie for the residents on Friday evening. Was a new comedy film called "Identity Theft." Enjoyed it. Was a nice way to end the evening.

    Good Night All...
