  1. STORIES TO TOUCH YOUR HEART:

In Lower Manhattan, parents teach kids about 9/11 every day
    By Jacoba Urist, TODAY contributor

The first time our son Wilson asked about 9/11, he was 2. It was the 10th anniversary of the attacks, and we had to pass through an armed checkpoint in our Lower Manhattan neighborhood to get to our weekly Bubble Babies lesson. Why, he wanted to know, was someone trying to hurt us on our way to swimming?

Soon after, Wilson started noticing other things: the photos in our favorite local diner (first responders covered in ash), part of the burned chief’s car framed in the firehouse around the corner, the enormous cranes towering over his playground.

We try to answer his questions truthfully, but in a way that makes him feel safe. After all, how do you explain to a 4-year-old that Mommy and Daddy chose to raise him in a neighborhood that once saw so much destruction?

  3. Pennsylvania on September 11th. Anyone who may have forgotten will be reminded immediately by lowered flags, ribbons, and billboards. Very different from Los Angeles.

I'll write as soon as I can from our final destination. Lots of love to you all!

  4. Today is a very somber day indeed. A day to reflect and be in prayer for our country. So much emotion comes to me when I remember that day. I am so far removed from where it all took place but I still feel it.

Be safe Surfie. Be safe friends.

    Love to you all.

  5. Hi Gloria, Hi Eva, Hi Pond Family...
I remember that day too. Froggy and I watched on TV, and couldn't believe what I was seeing. Coming into Seattle this evening, I did notice the flags at half mast.

Froggy worked hard today in therapy. You would be proud of her. She has me join in with the group therapy. It was a hot day around here, so we were glad that her rehab/care center was air conditioned.

Thursday will be busy for Froggy. She will be transported to Seattle to see her doctor. They said that I could ride back with them to the care center. Then her very nice roommate is being discharged, and gets to go home. We both enjoyed her roommate's company. She was such a nice and fun lady. We are praying for another nice roommate.

  6. EXCUSE ME! DID I READ THAT RIGHT?

School Tells Child She Can’t Write About God
    By Todd Starnes

A Tennessee mom is looking for answers after her daughter’s teacher refused to let the child write about God for a school assignment.

Erin Shead, a 10-year-old student at Lucy Elementary School in Millington, was assigned to write about someone she idolized. The girl, who is a Christian, decided to write about God.

“I look up to God,” she wrote. “I love him and Jesus, and Jesus is His earthly son. I also love Jesus.”

The youngster also said that God would “always be the #1 person I look up to.”

“It was so cute and innocent,” Erica Shead told television station WREG. “She talked about how God created the Earth.”

But Shead said her daughter’s teacher objected to the choice and told her she could not use God as an idol for the assignment.

Erin told her mom that it had something to do with religion God could not be her idol. The teacher then allegedly told the child that she had to take the paper about God home – because it could not remain on school property.

  7. DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT OUR GOVERNMENT IS DOING?

House pulls spending bill amid backlash as government shutdown looms

House Republican leaders pulled their plan Wednesday to temporarily fund the federal government after rank-and-file party members said it sidestepped “defunding” ObamaCare.

The action further narrowed Congress’ time to strike a budget deal before an Oct. 1 government shutdown.

House Speaker John Boehner and his team pulled the plan, which could have gotten a full chamber vote as early as Thursday, after a conservative backlash led by the Tea Party movement and Heritage Action for America.

The plan essentially called for the House to vote on defunding ObamaCare and the temporary spending bill, then send the package to the Democrat-controlled Senate, which almost certainly would have jettisoned the defund part and allowed the chambers to negotiate on a “clean” funding bill.

“The Ruling Elite is up to it again,” the Tea Party Patriots group said Wednesday. “They want you to think they have voted for defunding ObamaCare. But it’s another shell game.”
