  1. Good morning Ponders...
What's up this week? Anyone enjoying the change in seasons. Trees around Seattle have changed to yellows and reds. Then the wind came and blew the pretty colored leaves all around I go to work today. This evening I'll finish up the apartment for Froggy's return on Wednesday. Yay! ! ! ! Sister's coming home.

  2. So glad Froggy gets to come home soon. Praying the move goes smooth as silk!

How are you going, Eva? Still holding you close in my heart and prayers.

I'm sooo happy the seasons are changing. It's nice to not be living in a blast furnace! It's fun to start cooking fall & winter food, getting out the sweaters and long sleeved shirts. Also nice to turn the AC off, open the windows and get some fresh air.

Something bad that turned out to be good happened. Last week, while rolling down my car window, I heard a loud pop and the window fell down into the door. Guy at work helped me inch it back up and tape into place. Took it to the place that changes my oil. They told me the motor was broken and it would cost $300 to fix it. A little voice told me not to do it. I asked Karen and Brad if they knew a good mechanic. The asked me if I remembered Wayne from high school. I did, but didn't know he was a mechanic. Long story short, took the car to Wayne. He fixed the window for $75. I saved $225, reconnected with a person from my past, and now have a great mechanic that I trust! He and his wife gave me a standing invitation to come over every weekend for football parties. Yay!

My secretary is a dream. She's smart and catches on pretty quickly. Our personalities are a lot alike, so we're getting along well. Melinda is also pregnant. She goes for an ultrasound tomorrow and will find out the baby's sex. I had a dream that it's a boy. We'll see!

Hope everyone has a good week. Love you all!

    1. Surfie,
I have a saying, "you never know when you get up in the morning." When you got up, you had many surprises. What a wonderful car story. and to connect with old friends who are now new friends. And your secretary sounds perfect. Having a new baby will be exciting too.

  3. The toughest restaurant reservation in the US

Think getting a reservation in your city's hot spot is tough? Just try to nab a meal at Rao's, which is so popular with its regulars that the phone lines never open.

The tiny eatery in New York's East Harlem is "the toughest restaurant reservation in this country," writes Forbes' Larry Olmsted. The Italian restaurant only has about a dozen tables, and each one is pretty much spoken for at all times.

The regulars have had long-standing reservations for years, and when they can't go, they ask friends to go in their place, Olmsted adds. As a result, you'll never see a Groupon (GRPN -3.67%) deal or an ad of any sort for the restaurant. Rao's has been permanently sold out for decades.

If you aren't a regular, you pretty much have to be a politician, celebrity, musician or athlete to get in. For the rest of us muggles, the doors are closed.

"As a result, Rao's is equal parts legend and myth, so hard to get into that very few restaurant critics have been -- and not for lack of trying," Olmsted writes. The restaurant doesn't take credit cards, and it has no menu (a server will tell you the daily options). It's closed on the weekends and it never opens for lunch.

Rao's opened a second location in the Caesar's Palace resort in Las Vegas several years ago. The Las Vegas menu features spaghetti alla bolognese, veal parmesan, ossobucco and Rao's famous lemon chicken.

  4. Ohio school district agrees to keep portrait of Jesus off wall, pay $95G fine

An Ohio school district has agreed to keep a portrait of Jesus Christ off school property and pay a $95,000 fine in the face of legal pressure from the American Civil Liberties Union.

The Jackson City School District, located in Jackson, reached a deal on Friday after the ACLU, along with the Wisconsin-based Freedom from Religion Foundation, sued the district in February, citing “unconstitutional” actions and charging that students and visitors to the school “will continue to suffer permanent, severe and irreparable harm and injury,” according to the lawsuit.

The picture had been hanging in Jackson’s high school since 1947 as part of a “Hall of Honor” display meant to highlight famous historical figures.

“The case could have ended before it began if the school had simply acknowledged that it is not the government’s place to endorse one specific religion in a public school that children are legally required to attend,” said James Hardiman, the legal director for Ohio’s ACLU chapter.

  5. Catching up today. What's the word on Froggy's arrival home? Everything go alright?

Surfie, I didn't get a chance to get back to you on Sunday to say you could never offend me. I loved your idea of what our pets would be doing up in heaven. I just know my Puffy and he's the type to "abuse" power. He really was just as sweet as he could be, it's just that he knew it and did whatever it took to make you know it, too. He wouldn't let a neighbor of ours leave the house once until she oohed and aahed over him. This neighbor had never come over before, so Puffin saw a new person to impress. He kept flopping down in front of her feet each time she tried to walk forward.

I also loved the story about your new "old" mechanic. I make Joe deal with these things when I can. When I go to the mechanic or the dealership, I know they're trying to put one over on me. Good for you and your inner voice.

My niece just had her 20 week ultrasound and is having another boy. I was hoping for a girl, but a boy is just as welcome.

  6. Wog, is tomorrow still moving day? Are you and Froggy ready? Nervous? Will be keeping you both in special prayers.

Congratulations on your new grand nephew, Eva. Just heard that Melinda's baby is also a boy. They were both hoping for a boy (her 2nd child, his 1st). Three men I work with have all become fathers recently. All boys!

Eva, my hubs used to take care of all the car stuff. It's a relief to have a man I trust to help me with it all. I don't care what "they" say ... car maintenance is a man's job!

    Have a great week everyone!

  7. Hi Surfie and Eva...
I love the cat stories. I see another book here. They each have such personalities, and each one has it's own meow. We had three cats in the home once. Was lovely.

Yes, Froggy is coming home on Thursday sometime. I will have time to go up in the morning, help pack what's left, and come back in the transportation bus. They gave Froggy her own, brand new wheelchair. And they ordered a bathtub transfer bench. Very nice and easy to get into tub. Sit on edge of bench and slide over into tub area.

Now it's my part to plan some menus, and make some edible meals. Guess we'll make a cook out of me yet! Actually I have been planning Thanksgiving meal. Though I don't stuff a turkey anymore. I will just buy a turkey breast and maybe a leg, place it on top of dressing and bake it. Voila. Tasty meal. Add pumpkin pie, and brown and serve rolls. I make myself hungry!
