  1. Yay! Another day closer.

Did you know that Hanukkah comes on Thanksgiving this year? Won't happen again for 79,000 years. Very weird.

  2. WOG, I thought Froggy was coming home today. Prayers.

It is interesting, Eva. Isn't Hanukkah a celebration of dedicating the Second Temple? Respectful celebration of deliverance from oppression by God's grace and meditating on the blessings? I did research many years ago about the origins of Thanksgiving, and was struck by the similarity of the earliest record I could find of Europeans coming here and having a day of thanks. Their intent was much the same as I understand the intent of Hanukkah.

There might be a reason why these 2 holidays converge only every 79,000 years. If I could live another 50 years, a very big thing on my bucket list would be to research if there is a reason why. I probably won't be in this earth suit for another 50 years, so I'll just dabble for now while keeping the truth in my heart that we Jews and Christians are both God's children and are grateful for His many gifts.

    Love you all.

  3. Howdy,
We are back from Federal Way. That was my last trip. Brought Froggy back. The transportation service sent a taxi for her. I thought, "No way. A taxi?" But actually it worked fine. So many people that worked at the care center came by to wish her a send off. She added a little joy and humor to their days.

They gave her a wheelchair. It's perfect for home. A little smaller and easier to maneuver. We had two walkers at home. Very useful piece of equipment. They are also sending transfer bench for the bathtub. So we are all set.

Froggy seemed tired all day, so I tucked her into bed with the TV on.

Eva, I checked the calendar and Hanukkah and Thanksgiving are the same day. That's good because I don't think we could hang on for the next one in 79,000 years.

Surfie, you must be so well read. I am amazed at the things that you know.

I had two news items to post, but can only remember one of them.

  4. JUST HOW STUPID IS STUPID:

    Kentucky retracts handshake ban

The postgame handshake, from Little League to the NHL playoffs, has long been perhaps the greatest symbol of sportsmanship in this country. But because a bunch of teenagers can't control themselves, an entire state is considering banning it from most high school competitions.

So what are we talking about?

The Kentucky High School Athletic Association, the governing body for all high school sports throughout the state, on Tuesday ordered all high schools to no longer conduct postgame handshakes due to an increase in violence in these postgame events — "more than two dozen [incidents] in the last three years in Kentucky alone" according to the KHSAA.

  5. HALLOWEEN CANCELED:

Elementary school cancels Halloween due to 'religious overtones'

Put that Angry Birds costume back in the closet, kid, because Halloween is canceled. That's the word from one Pennsylvania elementary school, whose principal has taken Halloween off the calendar due to its "religious overtones." Orlando Taylor, the principal of Inglewood Elementary School in Towamencin Township, about 30 miles outside Philadelphia, sent a letter to parents telling them that "some holidays observed in the community that are considered by many to be secular (ex. Halloween, Thanksgiving and Valentine's Day) are viewed by others as having religious overtones."

Because of this, Taylor has canned the school's Halloween parties, costumes and other celebrations. "It is understandable that academics must come first," one angry parent wrote. "However there should also be opportunities for students to have fun and get the chance to celebrate … American traditions as opposed to stripping them all away."

  7. Howdy, Eva...
Froggy is up getting her sweet self put together. I am pushing her in new wheelchair a block to hospital to see the surgeon this morning. She is adjusting well to being back home. Been sleeping a lot. I managed a decent dinner last night. She is used to getting three nice meals a day. I made mashed potatoes, a hamburger (Angus) patty, some stir-fry veggies, and apple sauce.

Then I have a job interview at 3pm. Busy day, then a relaxing weekend. No more bus rides. Time to enjoy Sis' good company.

    1. A relaxing weekend sounds wonderful! No more bus rides, yay! Hope the interview went well.

We brought Puffin home today. The box is beautiful and they got the engraving correct. Tonight, Bambu will sleep in a room once again with his brother. I'm sad, but our little family is back together again.

  9. Chiming in here to say Welcome Home Froggy! You have no idea how we missed you. Hope you and WOG have a wonderful, relaxing weekend. You both have earned it.

Tell us what you like to eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We Ponders can probably give you some tips for easy, tasty, not expensive food. WOG, the dinner you made last night makes me think you're a better cook than you think you are!

Deer Family, I have a prayer request. My boss called me this morning crying very hard. She was at her mom's nursing home (mom in last stages of Alzheimer's). Janice thought her mom was about to pass away. Mom rallied so Janice came to the office for a bit. Her mom fades then rallies then fades then rallies. She won't eat, her body has turned ashen, her breathing shallow. It won't be long. This is such a long, slow way to die that you think you're prepared for it. Well, when it actually starts happening ... you are not prepared. Please keep my boss and very dear friend Janice, her mother, and their family in your prayers tonight.

Love and treasure all of you.

  10. Our Froggy had a hectic day today. I pushed her wheel chair to the hospital a block from us. Then down some halls and finally to her surgeons office. They took an x-ray of leg. Doctor thought there should have been more progress on the healing, so Froggy is a little discouraged. Needs to use wheel chair more, and walker less. He also said to be sure to take Vit D for healing. Brought her home and tucked her back in bed.

Tomorrow I work at Salvation Army thrift store, so will leave Froggy a good Froggy-lunch. I keep a bottle of water by her computer and by her bed. Saturday and Sunday I can rest. No more bus trips.

  11. SOME NEWS IS UNBELIEVABLE:

Disabled veteran Nick Spagnolo told service dog is violation of POA regulations

HOBE SOUND, Fla. —Nick Spagnolo loves spending time with his pit bull mix, Scarlett. But he's quick to point out Scarlett is not his pet. She's his service dog.

"She's very good as far as emotional support," Spagnolo said. "She'll help me to wake up in the morning."

Spagnolo is a Navy veteran. He served in Kuwait City and Somalia in the early 1990s. He is now disabled and said he needs Scarlett.

"I've got some medical issues, and Scarlett kind of alleviates a lot of those," he said.

Spagnolo got Scarlett last November. Shortly after, his Property Owners Association told Spagnolo the dog cannot stay.

The Jamestown Property Owners Association has sent Spagnolo numerous letters telling him Scarlett is a violation of the POA regulations.

Regulations limit pets to a maximum of 20 pounds. Scarlett weighs 40 pounds.

  12. TOO MANY "STUPID" STORIES:

Owner ticketed for walking wheelchair-bound cat without leash
    By Dan Billow

MELBOURNE, Fla. —Does a cat in a wheelchair also need to be on a leash? Apparently, the answer is yes.

A Melbourne woman found that out the hard way when she received over $200 in fines Tuesday. Pooh Bear's front legs work fine, but his back legs don't work at all. His owner Yvonne Steel has replaced those back legs with wheels. She got the little device on eBay and she calls it a wheelchair.

She takes Pooh Bear for a walk every day in a grassy area next to Wells Park. He needs the exercise for his back legs.

Brevard County Animal Services issued her $230 in tickets for failing to have Pooh Bear and McKenzie, a Chihuahua, on a leash, and for a rabies shot violation.
