  1. You can see on Connections Faith wall my niece was hospitalized, as a precaution, since she is 3 months pregnant, well she had the flu. Her parents took care of her 2 yr old, got the flu, and as I was watching their house and zoo, I got it too. So the whole family, except for DH, was laid low for Christmas. DH called his brother, 1200 miles away, and same thing happened to them. They laughed because, as two old disabled vets, they were the only two left standing ! I forgot how to sign in, this is EC

  3. Good Morning EC,
Glad to have you back. Sorry to hear about you niece. Can't be too careful when it comes to the flu. Give us an update on her progress. We aren't up yet, so will be back later. I just got up to check the news.

  4. EC, I'm so sorry about the flu, but your story of the old vets being the only ones left standing made me laugh out loud! Your niece has been in my prayers. My secretary is nearly 8 months pregnant and has the flu. Please say a prayer for Melinda and her precious baby boy.

I'm leaving work at noon tomorrow to go to a wedding. This is a really sweet story, at least to me. Tim was hired a little over 2 years ago. He was a hot mess. Horrible childhood, drunk, schizophrenic. But Joe, the owner of our company, saw something in him. Long story short, Tim turned out to be one of those "lost causes" that Joe hires who tried his best and appreciated the help and turned his life around.

Well, Tim has gone from a hot mess to a well-paid machinist. Clean and sober for well over a year. Joe and his family started driving Tim to church. Tim met a lovely young woman, a school teacher, Mary. They are getting married tomorrow! We hear about so many horrible things going on in this world. Thought you might want to hear a little good news. I am so proud of Tim, and so happy for him.

I'm going to New Year's Eve dinner with family after the wedding (dinner at 7 so I'll be home before the idiots start driving). What are ya'll doing?

    1. Surfie,
Wonderful story about Tim. It is so warming to have such good news. We send prayers for Tim's continued success. Enjoy the wedding and enjoy the New Year's with family. Sounds perfect.

  6. Tim and Mary's wedding was wonderful. One of the best parts was when Tim's 5 year old son (the ring bearer) started walking down the aisle. Tim's face lit up, and the little guy broke into a full run all the way down the aisle and jumped into his daddy's arms. I always get a little choked up at weddings, but totally lost it right then and there.

Tim has been such a wreck since his son's birth that he only started having a great relationship with his son about 2 years ago. And that little boy is the spittin' image of Tim! Truly made my day.

Hope everyone stays safe and warm this New Year's Eve. See you next year.

  8. Happy New Year's Eve to our wonderful Pond Family,
I think we have the best group on the Internet. How did we get so lucky to find such nice people? Be safe tonight, and enjoy the fireworks. Seattle will have fireworks off the Space Needle. If Sis and I are still up, we will watch on TV. I'm ready for bed right now. May have to watch festivities on the Internet in the morning. Love to Phooey, Paget, Gloria, Surfie, Eva, and EC.

  9. It's a brand new year! May God's blessings be abundant upon every member of our Deer Pond Family: Froggy, Wog, Phooey, Paget, Gloria, Eva, and our newest Deer EC. Surfie Smooches to one and all.

  10. Thank you for the Surfie Smooches. Great way to start 2014. We aren't up yet, but I woke up, and thought I'd check some news and fireworks videos. I bought a roast to cook later today... with mashed potatoes, green beans, crescent rolls.

  11. Happy New Year, deer Pond family! :)

We spent a quiet New Year's Eve, watching 'Despicable Me 2', and munching on snacks. It was nice. :)

Surfie; I sure enjoyed your story about Tim. Isn't it wonderful how a "hot mess" can change when he has God in his life, and people who have faith in him? I will keep him in my prayers too. :)

May God bless all of you deer pond friends in 2014; Froggy, Wog, Surfie, Gloria, Eva, Phooey, and EC too. :)

    Love from Paget

  12. Hi Surfie,
I love the Despicable movies. We have one of those Minions. Picked it up from McDonalds last year.
I love the relaxing kind of days. Froggy is resting. I'm thinking of cooking a pot roast in the pressure cooker. Or not. Might just do it tomorrow.

  13. Hi yoose guys. Happy New year!!!! We have a good year to look forward to. Got home about 3 hours ago and have been trying to do some catching up. I don't know about anyone else but I am ready to start a new year.
What is going on with our weather? So far this winter we have had very little snow. It is now January and when I hit Snoqualmie Pass today there is bare ground and the ski lifts are not running. It was good for me driving but a bad ski season. I had a great week. I am like Alice from the Brady Bunch. I have mated so many socks that I think I may get a raise.

  14. Hello everyone,

Gloria, glad you had a safe trip home. :)

We had some bad news today. Hubby got laid off. He had the bad luck of being on disability a few years ago, when his company changed their rules about how long you could be off and still return as a full time employee. Because they liked him, he was rehired as a "contractor". He was able to keep his same salary, but they took away his 401K, sick and vacation time, profit sharing, etc. We were thankful he still had a job. Now their work has slowed down, and won't pick up again until July .He is the only contractor in his department, so he is the first to go. I'm planning to go home tonight and try to find ways to cut the budget, so that we can get by on his unemployment. (which we are also thankful for) I'm trying not to complain, but this was the year I was going to pay off my credit cards, and get a better handle on our spending. I guess this will speed up that process! :) I know we will get by, I'm just kind of in shock right now. Please keep us in your prayers. Thanks everyone.

    Love from Paget

    3. Oh Paget, I am so sorry. It must have been quite a shock. I know about trimming the budget. I cancelled some of our "extras" too. Should have done it sooner. We are fortunate to live downtown so that I can take the bus, and don't need the car. Though I miss the car and the convenience. Let us know how we can help. We can start with prayers that this will be a blessing. Hug your hubby for us. We are here for both of you.

    4. Thank you all! I have a much better attitude today, and I'm sure your prayers have helped with that! :)

I probably sound very spoiled. Wog, you have amazed me with your ability to roll with the punches and keep a smile on your face! We've already figured that we'll save at least $50. per week, without hubby driving into work. I have lots of projects around the house that I'll suggest to him. hehe, I'm sure he will be thrilled!

Thanks again! :) I love you guys!

    5. Hey! What happened to my post from last night? I just wanted to add my prayer support for Paget and hubby. So sorry this has happened. I know what it is like to be in shock after losing a job.

  15. We'll be dog-sitting tonight. Not sure if I'll take our computer. Anyway, Paget, go easy on Hubby! Being fired really hurts self-esteem, especially men. Men just hide the pain better. Love all !

  16. Gloria,
Did you post on Jan 2? I didn't delete any posts. The computer phantom must have snatched it.

Phooey, the doggies must love it when you come over to take care of them. Dogs get so excited to see their people.

Paget, glad you are feeling some better. There will be more plans you can do once you adjust. Take advantage of having some time together. I don't roll with the punches...gracefully. I usually go home, and have a good cry, then get up the next day, and take care of things.

Surfie, did you get snow? I can't figure out which states got snowed in. Eva, probably go snow. She wanted seasons - she got seasons! News said that 22 states got snow.

EC, don't know where you live. Did you get snowed in too? Let us know that you are okay. The Pond keeps track of all its frogs.

Who else is missing? Eva and Joe. Hope you still have electric and heat where you are. We are sending prayers for your safety.

  17. No snow here. Just bitter cold. High for the next couple of days around 20 with high winds. Pretty sure both Eva and EC got a lot of snow. Eva lives at the coast and I heard this was a nor'easter for them. Hope you two are safe and warm. We're keeping you in our prayers.

  18. Good morning Surfie,
We are okay in Seattle. It's a "warm"45 here. Some rain. Even had some surprise sunshine in the afternoons. Took Froggy to wound care clinic last week. They said that blister on her feet are almost healed. That's happy news. I am still looking for a job. That will be my focus for the start of 2014. Going to store later today, They have 2 for 1 sale on pot roast. I cook roasts in pressure cooker with some au jus gravy mix.

    Will check back later.

  19. Hi, Wog. Happy to hear that Froggy's feet are doing well. I thought they were already fully healed. How is her leg doing? How is Deer Froggy doing? Please tell her hi from me. Love you, Frog!

I've never cooked anything in a pressure cooker, but a pot roast with au jus gravy mix sounds wonderful. The smell of a pot roast cooking makes the place feel like home. Are you going to make some potatoes and green beans or something to go with? I'll be right over!

Good luck on the job hunting. I pray for you to find the right job every single day.

Hope Eva and EC are ok and that we hear from them soon.

  21. Sorry, I had a long post that would disappear I will use DH's for the Pond. We are about 45 degrees, no snow just icey rain yesterday with high winds. DH is in Atlanta, it is 6. I emailed everyone but Paget, don't have her address. If anyone wants to copy and paste my email, that would work until I figure out what the problem is. But thinking of you all and praying for, as Biden said that 3 letter word, JOBS, JOBS for everyone that wants one. EC only way I can get it to work is Anon.

  22. Halooo.

Wog, anytime my posts dissapear it is probably because of something I did or didn't. Good news about Froggy's foot. I love you sisters so much and am believing for a wonderful 2014. We will all keep praying for her healing. Lovin' that sunshine.

Yes, a job for Paget's hubby and one for Wog too. I sorta kinda would like to go back to work too. It would have to be just the right situation.

For some reason after I do the 5 1/2 hour drive from daughter's house I feel rummy for days after. Maybe I need to start taking a supplement for clear thinking. Something for the challenged senior. Yea, that's it.

    Tomorrow night is Downton Abbey.

Froggy had fallen asleep for several hours with her feet together, and it had caused a blister on both feet. They are almost healed. But she will need to see wound care people a couple more times. They bandaged her up to her knees.

Gloria, we never watched Downton Abbey. Seems to be very popular. Is it from England?

EC, Paget will drop by the Pond and read your post. She comes by often. Only Eva hasn't been by for awhile. With all the snow it would be nice to have a fireplace and glass of wine. I haven't lost a post for some time, but it has happened. You might copy it before you post ... just in case!

Phooey, you and Miss Page must be so glad that you live in Florida right now.
