Another Glitch: Newly discovered HealthCare.gov error giving bad info on premium aid
    March 21, 2014 / FoxNews.com

The Philadelphia Inquirer discovered the glitch while entering hypothetical incomes into the calculator on HealthCare.gov. The newspaper found that the calculator is using the wrong year's poverty guidelines -- a simple mistake that, for months, has resulted in would-be enrollees getting inaccurate guidance.

Because of the glitch, some people may be initially told they qualify for subsidies when they don't. Others may be told they don't qualify when they do.

It's unclear how many people have been affected, but the mistake raises the possibility that thousands are giving up the hunt for insurance after being told, inaccurately, that they don't qualify for government aid.

  2. What is going on out there? Fox news has over a hundred missing people with this mud slide? Dear G-d, I am weeping here ? We have hurricanes but can prepare, let us know you are all OK

  3. Hi EC. We are all fine here. Frog and Wog are in Seattle so they are safe too. You are right about not being able to prepare for something like this slide. This is a terrible tragedy. I feel for those who still don't know. The news is non stop.

  4. 'WOG: We are all safe. Gloria is far enough away. Froggy and I live in downtown Seattle. Paget is way south. I didn't realize how bad the mudslide was until I watched some of the videos. There are small mudslides every year that cover the train tracks, and people have to drive to work in Seattle. But this is really a bad slide; covers a lot of area. Anyone out there would have no place to run!
Here's a snippet from one of the reports. Has a video too.

108 'reports of names' of missing in landslide
by KING 5 News and Associated Press / Posted on March 24, 2014

ARLINGTON, Wash. -- Emergency officials announced Monday that they have received 108 reports of names of people missing or unaccounted for after a massive mudslide that hit rural Snohomish County Saturday, primarily affecting the communities of Oso and Darrington.

    (snip)
A 1-square-mile mudslide swept through part of a former fishing village about 55 miles north of Seattle. The list of people who've been reported missing or who are unaccounted for contains 108 reports of names, but authorities say that figure will probably decline dramatically.

Among the possible missing are construction workers coming into the neighborhood and people just driving by. Snohomish County Emergency Management director John Pennington said the slide occurred on a Saturday morning, when more people were likely to be home. Of the 49 structures in the neighborhood hit by the slide, authorities believe at least 25 were occupied full time.

Restored WWII plane to return to Normandy for D-Day anniversary
    Published March 24, 2014 / Associated Press

The next time the American military transport plane known as Whiskey 7 drops its paratroopers over Normandy, France, it will be for a commemoration instead of an invasion.

Seventy years after taking part in D-Day, the plane now housed at the National Warplane Museum in western New York is being prepared to recreate its role in the mission, when it dropped troops behind enemy lines under German fire.

At the invitation of the French government, the restored Douglas C-47 will fly in for 70th-anniversary festivities and again release paratroopers over the original jump zone at Sainte-Mere-Eglise.

    1. I am so pround of my counry and the role we played in World War ll. Imagine a 70 year old plane flying over Normandy again. It is too bad that some of the soldiers that were there couldn't be at this event too. Most of those would be in their 90s now. Not many of them still living. I really believe that people are finally waking up to the fact that we must act or lose our country.

    2. Thanks Wog, hope W7 will be part of the anniversary.

    1. Hang in there, Eva. Spring really will get to you. Just this week I've seen crocus, daffodils, tulips, hyacinth, forsythia bushes. Every day something new starts blooming. Today it was the Bradford pear trees. I'm not going to plant anything outside for another 2 weeks, but it is so wonderful to see winter finally coming to an end.

Hang in there. Spring is on the way to your house, too!

  8. Deer Eva, Froggy always says that all that snow makes you appreciate the Spring and Summer and Fall. Though I can't believe you are getting more snow...again. Did Joe tell you that you don't get so much snow every winter?

We here in Washington are still dealing with the devastating news about the mudslides. They keep finding more bodies. It's even dangerous for the searchers and rescue people. They can't tell when and if the mud will slide again.

About Flight 370, I hope they can find the black box before it stops sending signals. It's really the only they can know what happened. I, personally, don't think it was an accident. There are too many strange things associated with the flight (turning off instruments, changing directions, dropping altitude???)

Mom's harness invention gives kids a chance to walk
    Meghan Holohan / TODAY contributor

When Rotem Elnatan was 2 years old, his physical therapist told his mom Debby Elnatan some upsetting news: “Rotem does not know what his legs are. He has no consciousness of them.”

Rotem, now 19, has cerebral palsy, a condition affecting the brain and nerves that impacts movement. His therapists did not encourage walking or crawling because they believed too much activity could worsen the muscle spasms.

But Debby Elnatan saw her toddler craved a life of exploration. After crying for two weeks about her son’s dilemma, the Israeli mom became inspired. From her determination came the Firefly Upsee, a double pair of rubber shoes with a harness that helps a small child walk with a parent or adult.

  11. 'Wog, Froggy is right. All this snow will definitely make me more appreciative of the other months, especially Summer. Even though we've had temps reach in the upper 50's from time to time, the norm has been in the 20's and I've had it with the cold. The snow is melting and I'm hopeful that most of it will be completely gone by tomorrow. So far, nobody has been talking about any more storms coming, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

Every news story about the mudslide in your state is like a knife to the heart. I can't imagine the grief of these families. I was watching a video of the rescue of a 4 year old who happened to be on the second floor of his house when the slide hit. His father and his 3 (I think) siblings were downstairs. They were all lost. Thank goodness his mother wasn't at home at the time. The thought that this little boy might have lost his entire family in the blink of an eye was awful. I saw another interview with a woman who lost both her parents and her daughter and her daughter's fiance. I had to change the channel. I couldn't bear it.

I still have so many questions about the Malaysian airplane. How can they say it crashed into the ocean when they have no proof? No tangible proof, I mean. I trust the Brits and their equipment, but they need to show definitively that they have found debris from the plane or the people on it. Then, we need to know what the hell happened. Was it the pilot? A passenger? Something else? Inquiring minds want to know.

  12. Eva, so glad to hear winter is starting to ease off for you. Froggy is so right about the seasons! Can't wait to hear what (hopefully) lovely surprises Spring brings to you. I have a big case of Spring Fever. Hope I can take next Friday off work so I can do fun things getting my outside potted plants and little garden together.

Stories of the mudslide send me to my knees. I can't watch any more so I just pray. I'm so fed up with the airplane crash. Something is going on and I don't know if we will ever know the truth. I just pray for the passengers and their families.

WOG! Thank you for posting something wonderful. I still believe most people on this earth are good to the bone.

Froggy, pray every day for you to feel better. We love you so very much.

    Tomorrow is TGIF! YAY!

  15. All of you Ponders are wonderful! That's why we are a Pond Family. I come here any time I need a "cheer up." Though, Eva, we can't do much about the snow, we can fix almost everything else.

Took Froggy to doctor this morning. Everything went as planned. Sometimes it's tricky getting a shuttle bus to pick up on time. Also made doctor appointments ahead so that we can get the doctor we want. Now Froggy is laying down, and I am trying to get hold of shuttle bus to schedule rides for the next three Fridays.

I went to Job Fair yesterday for Goodwill jobs. Never thought that's where I would be looking for a job. I don't need a high paying job or a stressful job. Thrift stores are perfect for me right now. They have flexible hours. The work is easy but a little hard on the feet.

Been trying to catch news updates on that missing plane. I don't think they will get to the black box in time. It will be a miracle if they find it. Don't ya think they need to extend the "ping" time to 2-3 months or more? We are never going to know what really happened. It will be all speculation. I think the pilots took it down. It's happened before. It happened off San Diego 10-15 years ago. The pilot left his seat, and while he was gone, the co-pilot yelled Allah Akbar (or whatever it is???) and he took the plane into the ocean. I never see any mention of that crash.

  16. PEANUT BUTTER -- BEST STUPID NEWS OF THE DAY:

25 Tons Of Edible Peanut Butter Dumped In Landfill After Dispute Between Plant And Costco
By Ashlee Kieler March 28, 2014

Yesterday we told you that Sunland Foods Inc., the peanut butter plant behind the Great Peanut Butter Recall of 2012, was being sold at a bankruptcy auction. Sure, you could say that makes the company the big loser in peanut-gate. But today we learned the real losers are all the lovers of the creamy, nutty food. Why? Because the company is dumping 950,000 jars of safe, edible peanut butter into a New Mexico landfill following a dispute with Costco.

The massive peanut butter dump was initiated after Costco Wholesale refused to take shipment of the product and declined requests to let it be donated to food banks, repackaged or sold to brokers who provide food to institutions like prisons, NPR reports.

  17. Good Saturday morning, deers. Froggy, you have been in my heart so much lately. I think of you and pray for you so often during each day. I hope you have a wonderful day today and start feeling better. Can you see Spring springing from your window? Love to you and Wog!

Spring is absolutely here in OKC. Hallelujah! I'm getting my hair trimmed, then on to Lowe's for bags of soil to freshen up the big pots for my patio garden ahead of planting. It's safe to plant pansies and lettuce, but will wait a week or 2 to plant herbs and flowers and my one little cherry tomato. My giant elephant ear made it through the winter since I brought it inside. It's sprouting a new leaf! Once the night temp stays above 50, I'll put it back outside. My Norfolk Island Pine can go outside for a couple of months until it gets too hot. That beauty is on it's way to getting too big for my apartment. I need to find someone who has a bigger interior space that I can give it to.

There are so many things I want to accomplish this weekend: hair, garden center, tending plants, planting new plants, clean house, laundry, give myself a mani-pedi, pay bills, plan menu for next week then grocery shopping and cooking. THE THING I need to accomplish this weekend is getting my taxes together.

I'm going to have as much fun today as I can. Taxes can wait until tomorrow.

    1. Harvey, good name for a rabbit. I remember Harvey! I love to see animals around the neighborhood. We have birds (some are too noisy at 3am), and squirrels. Not much wildlife in the city.

  20. that is cute. I used to buy sunflower seeds for the birds, the squirrels literately tore apart the feeders, our bunny disappeared when they built the house next door, suspect he went into the woods across the street. The tornado warning is done and the Beag has his thundershirt off. Back to house cleaning. EC

    1. EC,
Does the thundershirt really help? I could have used one myself in Denver. They have bad lightening in the Denver area. Sometimes the tornado sirens go off. That's really scary! Strange, but as much as it rains in Seattle, we seldom get thunder.
