  1. Before we moved to Florida, we had a Snark Sailboat on White Birch Lake, Windsor, NY. It was a man made lake full of perch, no gas motors allowed. Doggies loved it, now with a webtoed Lab, can't go to a lake because of gators. Our Chesapeake retriever went to DelMarVa with us in our camper and sliced her pads on clam shells, so much for being from the Chesapeake. Phooey, you and I both are pet sitting this weekend, brother's birthday, so they went camping, I got the Zoo, 2 pits, 2 cats, and the fish tank, thank goodness they are next door, so don't have to drive. Oh, and I am driving again, off the meds, off the cane and feeling great. Well I take that back a little, on Wed, I got my 'partial' to replace the front tooth and side, where the crown broke off. Thank goodness never needed a root canal, but am having trouble getting used to this 'foreign' object in my mouth, seems like everything gets stuck in the wires. I can't stand bugs, and saw 3 roaches in my house ! I use diatomaceous earth ( food grade ) sprinkled on the perimeter but some how, (probably dogs) brought them in. So I have some Ortho Home Defense to spray around all the exterior wall moldings but that means moving all the furniture away from the walls, so kind of pooped. Then did the garage and screen room, time to GO FISHING.

  2. Hi EC, Loved your "zoo" stories. We sure miss having animals in the home, but they are a lot of upkeep. Glad you are feeling better. Sounds like you are finally getting back to normal...just way too many problems. Froggy found a couple ants in the living room. Don't know where they came from. I may have brought them back on my clothes when I went downstairs to putter in the apartment garden. Probably scouts for the ant-pack. Not sure what to do about ants in the house. Any suggestions?

I sent this to your email, Mother Nature Network for ants, using household things that are in your pantry.

    2. EC, We so much appreciate your link to ant control. So far they are not out of hand, but I know that each ant has a hundred friends. One problem we have is that we can't see them on the carpet. I get down on my knees with a flashlight until I find them. The only reason we found them at all is that a couple wandered into the bathroom where I could see them.

    1. Hi Gloria, I am so sorry about the loss of your post. Blogger used to be so easy to use. Now it's a mess. It's a case of "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"

  5. Good Morning Pond Friends... Hot in Seattle. Actually the sun is up, and it's beautiful. Sis and I are dressed in cool clothes, shorts, etc. The windows are open, and the fans are on. Yesterday was my last day at the foodbank. I wanted to cry when I left. I really liked the people. Friday I'll find out where AARP is going to send me next. It's really stressful to keep changing jobs.

I have some news links to post, but didn't want to start our day with bad news. What is everyone doing to stay cool? Good day for outside cooking, swimming, air-conditioned movie.

    1. Cool ? yikes Phooey and I can tell you 'cool' is 85 on the screen room. The yard is always 10 * hotter. When it rains everyday, it is tough to get trimming and hedging done, the rain makes is grow 3 feet and the Beaglie needs his Thunder Shirt on and sits in my chair behind my back. So it is either too wet to use the tools or too hot, lithium batteries, guess I need to sharpen the machete and go manual in the morning wet.
Gloria, I have gotten used to "select all" and "copy" before I try to publish, sometimes it takes 3 times to 'take'. Wog, I volunteered at our church food bank until the people showing up had trunk fulls of bags from other sites, acrylic nails, i phones and cigs in their pockets, I got disgusted and left, there were people that really needed the food but too many leeches, and we were not allowed to question. I felt so bad for an elderly man that sold his business, a vet, and home to pay for his wifes medical care, and needed the food, I gave him some cash, without anyone looking on. You can tell who is sincere and who is just a mooch.

    2. EC.. You are a kind person to help someone out at the foodbank. Yes, I'm sure there are some people who show up that don't really need the help. There's always someone around to spoil something that is good. You can feel good in your heart for doing as much as you could.

Good luck with your soggy yard work. Seattle is known for rain, but we haven't seen any for a while.

  6. Hi All...Froggy got too hot and went to lay down. Not much you can do when it gets uncomfy. I am on computer with headphones listening to old tunes on You Tube. Right now I'm smiling to Iron Butterfly playing "In A Gadda Da Vida". Great drum solo!

  7. Woggy thought we were under attack when the Blue Angels flew over Seattle this morning. Silly 'WOG! It was the practice for SeaFair this weekend. She has just never been home to hear them.

  8. Pouring rain at the Jersey Shore today. It's been threatening for awhile, but held off until now. Thank goodness there's a break in the humidity. I had forgotten what this was really like after all those years in dry Los Angeles! I don't know whether I'd ever say one was better than the other, hot is hot, but it's easier on a women in the dry heat. There's just something about feeling sticky that makes you unattractive. Men can just take their shirts off. Unfair!

Still recovering from the family visit. I miss the little ones soooo much. It's nice to get back to a normal routine, though. I'm hoping Joe & I can get into NYC one day next week to meet up with my Dad and Aunt & Uncle for lunch. He goes back to Georgia next Saturday. He's doing really well and having a great time, but I imagine at age 90, not sleeping in your own bed for 3 weeks has got to be tough.

    1. Eva, super that that you had such a wonderful visit with family. Ya just have to do that every now and then. Your Dad is special to still get around at 90. Sis and I live in senior housing, and so many of the residents don't get around well.

  9. Hi Deer Ponders. I just read through pages of comments and don't know where to start! So, I'll just say how much I love everyone here in The Pond and love reading your comments. Love you!

I've been going through a couple of tough weeks, family-wise. Cried myself to sleep nearly every night last week. My brother and sister both have some things going on in their families. I thank the Lord that I have a son, life-long friends, and a boss who have helped me understand and cope with it all. I could write an epistle here about it all. Just know that the problems in my brother's and sister's families involve drug and alcohol abuse.

All I can do is be honest with them and pray for them ... then shake the dust off my shoes and live my life well.

Today, I am living my life. I'm in the Pond, going shopping for new shoes, cooking, tending my little garden, working on a Christmas cookbook (to give as gifts). I'm taking care of myself this weekend.

I probably have made no sense at all.

    2. PS: Surf, you make perfect sense. Have the same problems on both sides of the family, a niece on the DH side and a nephew on my side. Sometimes wonder just where did they come from !! Always felt bad we couldn't have kids, but now I wonder.

  10. Surfie, your family are in my thoughts and prayers. Hang in there. I know how it's more painful on behalf of others than it is to go through yourself. Sometimes I'd so rather be hurt myself than see my loved ones in pain.

EC, Rake King is also in my prayers. I'll try to get to him on the Connection.

  11. Hi to everyone, once again. Last time my post disappeared and I didn't have time to re write.

We have had BIL with us since Jul 22 - his flight got in while Obama was in town. What a traffic snarl-up that was. Arranged to have him take the Airporter to Marysville. It worked.

We have been working on rebuilding our back deck. It is much smaller than before. We may not be able to complete the project this year but most will get done. My brother was able to come up 3 days and bring needed tools. They worked sooooo hard in the heat. As they tore old wood off I stacked and pulled nails. We were all filthy and exhausted at the end of each day. A 60 foot long deck is now 20 feet! HA! Just what I wanted.

BIL is diabetic so have been trying to cook meals that are right for him. With all the exercise and good cooking his blood sugar has been very good.

Today we had planned to have a small family get together at SIL's. Their Mom had a little mishap while getting out of bed and seemed disoriented. The attendants found her on the floor. When we saw her she still wasn't feeling well so stayed in bed. Sorry Mom couldn't be there but good that all 4 sibs could be together and talk.

Surfie, I know how it is to have a family member that is messed up because of drugs or alcohol. I could say a lot but I have to stop myself. Too much emotion. God loves our family more than we know. I have to trust Him. He has a plan.
