  2. Feel-good story from Seattle: Our Orca had a baby!
Here's the article from Seattle Times newspaper...

New J-pod orca calf spotted in Salish Sea
Posted by Paige Cornwell / Dec 30, 2014

"A brand-new orca calf has been seen in the Salish Sea, the Center for Whale Research reported Tuesday evening.

The orca J16, known as Slick, was seen with a new baby that is one or two days old. The birth brings the number of Puget Sound’s southern resident killer whales to 78.

“Good news for the end of 2014!” the center wrote on its Facebook page.

The baby, now known as J50, is the newest member of the J-pod, part of an endangered population of killer whales.

The J-pod is most likely to appear year-round in the waters of the San Juan Islands, according to the center.

  5. Happy New Year deer friends. Deer Family. This is my favorite day of the year. I don't make concrete resolutions, but do look back at myself (good and bad) and get inspired about the wonderful possibilities of a brand new year.

Who knows what challenges and triumphs each of us will experience this year? Nobody on this Earth knows, but I DO know we will share them together. Long live the Pond!

There is freezing rain/sleet outside right now. I'm inside, snug as a bug, watching an NCIS marathon.

PS: LOVED seeing the baby Orca!

  6. Good Morning Deer Pond Family, First day of 2015. It's 7am, and still dark and cold outside. Froggy went to bed early, but the New Year came anyway. I went downstairs to visit with a few residents in our community room. It's always nice to visit with people that you don't see very often. Everyone brought something to nibble on for our potluck. Then I came back upstairs, and watched the fun on TV. The fireworks at the Space Needle was spectacular. Went on for eight minutes.

  7. Man, today felt like Monday. I was able to do a few errands and get a haircut. I found a shop in town that had a sign out. Haircuts $12. I have been going there for the last year. Turns out to be a business run by the nicest Vietnamese lady. She has quite a story to tell. She hires other Asian women. The last 2 times they charged me $10 ('cause I'm a senior doncha know.)

I am so glad to start 2015. I believe there are great changes coming for our country.

    Have a great weekend.

  8. Happy 3rd day of 2015. I'm with you, Gloria, believing there are great changes coming for our country. Sure, there are plenty of stories in the news opposed to such a belief. I believe average Americans are fed up with all the nonsense and the sleeping giant is about to stand up and take charge again. God help us!

It's cold and rainy here. Thankful it's above freezing! Hope everyone has a wonderful, safe and warm weekend.

    1. Surf, did you ever try the Vicks on the feet remedy? Just curious. I had a brief cold a while back and used that trick with essential oils. It works.

  9. Hi Ponders...Already 2015 is moving along too fast. We want to thank everyone for making our Christmas special. Thank you Paget for the popcorn tin. So many interesting and tasty things inside. You have always been so thoughtful, and to make our days special occasions. We love you for that.

I've been off work since Tuesday afternoon, and now there is only one more day left before I go back. Drats. Maybe now we can all get back to normal, whatever that is. Froggy's back has been bothering her, so she has been in and out of bed trying to get comfortable. She helped me pack up some of our Christmas ornaments for next year, and we watched some football today. Thought it would rain today, but it hasn't hit Seattle yet.

Eva, do you have a new picture of the baby? I couldn't post it before, but I think I figure it out now. Baby must be getting big. They grow so fast.
