  1. Good morning! The picture is hilarious. What I would give for a week, laying in the sun with a Pina Colada at hand. WOG, if you find the recipe for green chili casserole, please share it with us. I have some roasted Hatch Chiles in my freezer that I need to use before moving.

Speaking of moving, I finally have time to look and find a place. Am looking at 3 today. It is more difficult than I thought it would be to find a 2 bedroom in the heart of the city with vintage charm that I can actually afford. Back when I moved to OKC and was looking for a job, I kept hitting dead ends. Finally asked God something like "please bring me to the right job and the right job to me." That turned out perfectly! I'm asking the same prayer regarding where to move. I think I know what I want, but our Dear Lord knows better than I.

Today is the 20th anniversary of the OKC Bombing. Big events going on today. I lived in California at the time, and it was gut-wrenching to watch it on TV from so far away. My life-long friend Bill was a fireman stationed near downtown. His crew was 1st on the scene and started rescuing from the daycare center first. What he saw was unspeakable horror. He is a Viet Nam vet, but never saw anything like this. Please keep my friend Bill in your prayers. He struggles emotionally to this day.

Love you Deers. Have a lovely Sunday!

    1. Good Morning Surfie, thanks for the reminder about OKC Bombing. It was horrifying when it happened. The pictures still hurt my heart...especially the fireman holding the baby. We will send prayers to your friend and our friend, Bill.

  2. Surfie, I haven't made Green Chili Casserole for years, but I know it was something easy. There are several recipes online. One uses evaporated milk, and pours tomato sauce on top. I used to use Monterrey Jack cheese. That's all I remember. I might try to make one next weekend. Basically you mix up the mixture. Then layer mixture, whole green chilies, and cheese til you run out of ingredients or fill up the pan. There was one recipe where you put in "how many people" and it adjusted the recipe for you. How cool is that?

It is always helpful to see how other people do it on YouTube.

1 lb grated Cheese (cheddar or Mexican blend)
    1 1/2 cups Milk
    3 Eggs
    1/2 cup flour
1 (8oz) Can of whole green chilies

Mix milk, eggs, salt, pepper and flour
Spray pan (9x13) with nonstick cooking spray
Layer chilies, then mixture, then cheese, then chilies
    Put cheese on top
    Bake
At 350 degrees for 50 minutes.
    Wait 10 minutes before serving.

    1. Wog, you have given me an idea for one dinner this week. We call it chile relleno (sp) casserole and it is one of Scott's favorite dinners.

  3. Ponders, I couldn't resist this article. Hillary gets all the "important" endorsements. Do you think they are really voting for Bill?

  6. Well, this weekend is coming to a close. Yesterday Scott and I drove up to Oak Harbor on Whidbey Island. where we use to live. We figure we haven't been out to Whidbey for about 20 years!! Scott found an old truck that he wanted to buy on Craig's List so I went along in case he needed me to drive our car back and follow him. He got the truck and we made it home OK. As it would happen this is the last weekend for the Tulip Festival with all that traffic.Has anyone ever been to Whidbey? Or seen Deception Pass?

  7. Not looking forward to tomorrow. I lost a crown and it cannot be repaired. The good news is that we finally found a dentist close by that we both like.

Hope everyone has a good week.

'The family respectfully asks that you do not vote for Hillary Clinton in 2016. R.I.P. Granddaddy': North Carolina man's last message in obituary
    Daily Mail Online.com / 19 April 2015

"A North Carolina man's obituary asked two things of friends and family: instead of sending flowers for the funeral, give the money to charity. And don't vote for Hillary Rodham Clinton in 2016. The family of 81-year-old Larry Upright added the political message to the obituary announcing the Kannapolis man's death and burial this week. Upright's daughter, Jill McLain, said the rock-ribbed Republican was passionate about politics."

  9. Quick Note. I'm finally feeling human again. Honestly, why does it take so long to get over a simple cold? I'm so tired of this! Reading everyone's posts to keep up to date.

    Love you all!!

  10. Hi y'all. This week has been busy and full of drama. It has to do with our son who lives with us. I am worn out. Will explain later.

Eva, it seem like the older we get the longer it takes us to bounce back. Glad you are feeling better.

Doesn't Wog start jury duty this week?

    ReplyDelete
  11. Howdy Ponders, got a late start on my comments today. Just tired in the afternoons, and didn't get my nap today. I started Grand Jury on Weds. Also went today. Very interesting. Most of the cases don't take long...maybe an hour or two. We hear about the case and hear witnesses. Look at photos. Read a couple pages about the indictment. Then the attorney and court reporter leave the room so we, the jurors, can take a vote. We can ask questions of the attorney or the witnesses. After we vote, we might get a break...15 minutes to an hour before the next case begins. Also get a lunch time. Today was short. Only heard two cases and we were done by noon. Beyond that, we can't discuss the cases with anyone. Grand Jury is a year and half commitment. Every other week on Weds and Thurs.

By the way, don't we get Summer this year? It's cold and rainy in Seattle again. Still need gloves and a "nose mitten."

  12. Good morning, Deers. I needed a mental health day, so arranged to take today off work. Just getting caught up on everyone's posts. Eva, hope you are feeling well. Prayers for you, Gloria. So many wonderful posts!

I have not been called for jury duty since moving to OKC. Hope I never do! I think it could be quite interesting, but fear being elected to a trial that lasts a long time (taking me away from my job).

I finally have time to get serious about finding a new place to live. That is my only main focus this weekend. I must find a 2 bedroom new place! Please wish me luck, Deers.

It is tornado season. So far, nothing horrible. Just lovely thunderstorms and much needed rain. It might get crazy late this afternoon, so I'll get everything done this morning.

    Love to all.

  13. I had big plans for my day off yesterday, but ended up sleeping on and off most of the day. We had thunderstorms all day. Great sleeping weather. I knew that I was exhausted and needed a day off, and realized yesterday that I am asked to do too much at work. I'm only one person! Will go about changing up things next Monday.

Do you mind if I brag about my son? We have marathon calls, texts every Sunday, but I miss being with him in the physical world so much! He has a degree in Philosophy from Berkeley because he wanted to be a lawyer. Graduated college, did internship at a law firm and realized he did not want to be a lawyer. What do you do with a philosophy degree? The only real option was to become a professor. Nope, didn't want that.

So, he did what he does best and talked his way into being a meat cutter at Whole Foods. He was absolutely not qualified for that job, but got it anyway. That was about a year ago. He is now the meat buyer for the #7 Whole Foods store in the world. His WF manager has invited him to apply for an opening in their corporate office. He's torn because he's thinking about going to culinary school.

My boy turned 25 in March. He has a very expensive but worthless degree. My advice to him was this: apply for the corporate job. Don't increase your living expenses. See if you like corporate life and put the money in the bank. If you don't like corporate life, work in it until you have enough money to pay your bills and pay cash for culinary school.

Seriously, he has gone from wanting to be a lawyer to wanting to be a chef. He told me something like this: Mom, you are the only person I know that knows how rewarding it is to make fabulous food and serve it to others. My best memories of growing up is cooking with you and then you making great food for my college buddies.

I pray every day for my son to find his place in life.

    1. Surfie, you are a wonderful mom, and you gave your son wonderful advice. No matter which path he takes, in the end he will be a world-class chef...and I hope, writer of culinary books.

Keep resting. The weekend is not over!

  14. Surfie, what a great guy you raised! And how original. You'll never be bored talking to him!

It's cold here too, Wog, and I wonder what happened to Spring. Maybe next week.

Did anyone watch the Diane Sawyer interview with Bruce Jenner? I did. Very bizarre and awfully sad.

    1. Hi Eva, still cold in Seattle. All this climate "warming" is miserable! LOL We didn't watch Bruce Jenner interview. Think we've seen enough already. Is he thinking of doing a reality show about his life. Most people don't want to see this. TMI...

I'm up early to help Froggy up. Now she's gone back to bed and I'm awake. Thought I would change Pond pic for next week. Looking at cute animal pics.

  15. I've been doing a lot of sleeping this weekend. Spent half the day yesterday looking for a new place, and think I found it. Yay! It's a cute little 2 bedroom house in a great part of the City where I will feel safe. Much closer to work, close to trendy shopping and restaurants. The landlord and I talked on the phone yesterday. I'm meeting him at the house after work Monday, checkbook in hand.

Because of the location, I'm guessing most people who responded to his ad were late 20-somethings. He sounded excited that I'm 60, live alone, have no pets, and have a stable work and rent history. Keep your fingers crossed!

The weather here is typical Spring weird. Hot and muggy for a few days, then cool and rainy for a few days. That's why this area is called Tornado Alley. When hot weather slams into cool weather ... thunderstorms erupt.

The Bruce Jenner thing just makes me feel sad for him. I don't know what else to say.

    Love you all, Deers!
