  1. Good Morning Deer Ponders,
There were some very interesting posts late yesterday. I always go back and check. Don't want to miss anything from our Pond Family.

    Again, prayers to Paul's family.

Paget, had some diaper fun with Baby Kaden. Fascinating stuff about the DNA test.

Eva, I wonder what tales our parents would have about potty training us!

Stay cool. I'll be back later.

  2. NEWS FROM COLORADO:

New Colorado gun law bans all-online firearm training

DENVER – In an age where you can buy a car or get a college degree without ever leaving the house, Colorado lawmakers have made one thing impossible to obtain from comfort of the couch: A concealed weapon permit.

A new law requires people to show a firearm instructor in person that they can safely handle a gun before they get a permit, seeking to close what lawmakers say is an Internet-era loophole they didn't envision 10 years ago.

"There was no thought of anyone going and sitting in front of a computer and doing the whole course online," said Democratic Sen. Lois Tochtrop, a sponsor of the new law, and one of the legislators who voted in favor of Colorado's concealed-carry law in 2003.

Most states require proof of training to carry a concealed weapon. Instructors teach basics like how to load and unload a gun, how to hold it and fire it and ways to store it properly. Only a few states allow people to complete a concealed-carry training course entirely online.

  3. DID YOU KNOW...

The Mystery of Death Valley's 'Sailing' Stones

On the windswept desert floor of Death Valley, there's a place where rocks move across the ground all by themselves. No one has ever seen them move, and no one knows how they do it.

No one would know they move at all if it weren't for the trails they leave behind in Racetrack Playa (pronounced PLY-uh), a nearly 3-mile-long stretch of flat ground in Death Valley National Park that has attracted scientists, researchers and curious observers ever since the stones were first discovered nearly a century ago.

The dried-up lakebed here, about an 80-mile drive from the park's Furnace Creek visitor center, records the path that each stone leaves behind as it grinds its way along the earth. Some weigh as little as 25 to 30 pounds, while others weighing hundreds of pounds have been found, with trails hundreds or even thousands of feet long.

    1. Hi Wog, I read the whole article, and liked the ending comment that they're not trying too hard to solve the mystery, as Death Valley is a mysterious place, and they would like to keep it that way. :) I know another reason why no one sees the rocks move; it's too hot to hang out there and catch them in the act! Today it's supposed to be 116 degrees over there!

  4. Whoops! I made a terrible mistake. I was a civilian COUNTER spy also known as TSCM(Technical Security Counter Measures). Paget has them where she works. We would 'sweep' conference rooms and office areas where classified or sensitive information was discussed, maintain the encrypted communication and phone systems, monitor the radio spectrum for unauthorized transmitters on premises and maintaining intrusion alarm systems. Today with the internet, micro memory devices and cell phones the counter measures task is monumental. Sorry about the error.

    1. Still sounds like interesting work.

Phoo, what is your take on the Snowden biz?

    2. Yes, Phoo, I would also like your thoughts on Snowden. I keep hearing that he's either a hero or a traitor, and I think he must be something in between. But what do I know?

Yes, we have stuff going on over here at my work that is top secret. Nothing I'm ever around, which is fine by me. :) What I hate is when our computer security people send out "fake" emails to test us and see if we open them. They look so much like the official emails from management. But, you have to highlight the address to make sure it is an official email. I was caught in that sting one time. Geez. It is embarrasing! Just to keep us aware that there are hackers out there who want into our computers.

  5. Yikes, Paget! I just realized I called Kaden Jaden yesterday. Actually, my head said Kaden and my fingers typed the 'J'. It's interesting but when I make a typo, it's usually hitting a key farther away than the one I want. Not right next to it. I wonder what will come next? I really have got to get this laptop cleaned up. I keep saying it, I just don't seem to ever do it.

    1. Hi Eva, no problem! :) When I type (like right now) on my lunch hour, my keyboard is ultra-sensitive. If I bump it the wrong way, I lose everything I've typed. It even kicks me out of the website. :( Now I usually type my posts in Outlook, and then copy and paste. That saves me a lot of frutration. :)

  6. Wheather Snowden is a traitor or whistleblower remains to be seen. He obviously commited crimes of what level I don't know. I am glad that more citizens are aware of the extent that government is violating our privacy rights of the fourth amendment. The IRS/EPA/and most others has clearly shown us what harm politicized agencies can do to us. With massive data illegally collected via a carte blanche warrant from a secret court who knows what can happen.

    1. Phooey,
I'm not sure exactly what Snowden was doing. But our "questionable" government wants him real bad. Once Snowden ran, he'll have to keep running until they catch him.

I know my English has been off today, but I don't care. I'm hot.

  7. Hi! Wow, what a hot day!

Phooey, I love it when you talk about your career--you're my hero!

Paget, I love to hear you talk about the baby! Yay, grandmas!

Eva, where's my cat story? I'm due for another one after the Puffy suffocation story--what a hoot!

    1. Hi Sissy,
Me and Wolfie are melting right along with you. I just wait for the morning to see The Pond's "cool" pictures. I think we need a picture of snow and ice.
