  1. Good Morning, Deer Ponders,
Don't let the world spoil your good day. Your happy thoughts will help keep the world sane.

  2. JUST HOW SILLY IS THE WORLD?

"Frog-phobic man awarded $1.6M over runoff flooding"

CLARENCE, N.Y. (AP) — Paul Marinaccio Sr. traces his fear of frogs to a childhood incident in Italy when a man holding bullfrogs chased him away after he'd wandered from the vineyard where his parents worked.

Decades later, he found himself describing his phobia to a jury, calling himself "a prisoner in my own home" after runoff water from a nearby development turned his 40-acre property into wetlands and inundated it with frogs.

"I am petrified. I go home at night and I can't get in my garage because of the frogs," Marinaccio testified in 2009. "They're right in front of the damn door, OK?"

It was part of a seven-year legal fight involving Marinaccio, the town of Clarence and a developer that, according to The Buffalo News, finally ended last month when the state's highest court ruled that Marinaccio, who was awarded $1.6 million in compensation after the 2009 trial, is not entitled to an additional $250,000 in punitive damages.

  3. Have a happy day everybody. The picture is such a relaxing scene. I would love to be floating right in the middle of that lagoon scorching my pasty white skin.

If I let it the world can spoil my day. I wonder if that is what has been happening to me. It is like I have run out of things to say. I do not want to become conditioned to the evil that is around me. I want to witness the triumphing of good in our world. I still believe that in this country righteous will reign.

    Ponders are great people.

  4. I join with everyone in striving not to let the "evil" world get to us. I think we conservatives are all suffering from the blows to our way of life. They're hard to take because we love this country so much.

'Wog, thanks for the silly story. We need to laugh. Laugh, or as Gloria says, float away on that beautiful lagoon in Tahiti. I could get used to that real fast.

  5. STAMPS ARE BAD FOR YOUR DIET!

"When the gum on the back of the stamp is licked it tastes of chocolate; the stamps also have a chocolate smell, which is blended in with the ink in the form of essential cacao oils."

BRUSSELS — Feel like having chocolate at Easter in Belgium? Well, send a letter and really lick that chocolate-flavored postal stamp.

The Belgian post office released 538,000 stamps on Monday that have pictures of chocolate on the front and the essence of cacao oil in the glue on the back for taste and in the ink for smell.

The five different postage stamps depict chocolate in various forms: sprinkles, pralines, chocolate spread, pieces of raw chocolate and bars.

Belgian stamp collector Marie-Claire Verstichel said while the taste was a bit disappointing, "they smell good."

Easter is the season for chocolate in Belgium with Easter eggs and bunnies all over supermarkets and specialty stores.

A set of five stamps costs 6.2 euros ($8) but might leave a customer hungry for more.

    1. Did you know that before the era of gummed stamps Israel was the only country that used kosher glue on their stamps?

    2. Hi Gloria, that was a fascinating addition to this article. I had no idea that they had kosher stamps.

P.S. I like your beautiful flower icon.

  6. Hi, everyone! 'Woggy chose the picture for today. She actually got a chance to visit Tahiti back in the '60s on a college trip 'round the world. She always told me she cried the night they left--it was one of her favorite places. About Egypt, she said it was hot by the pyramids and she was afraid of the camels! She liked Masada, Israel and Italy. I'm glad she got to go!

    1. Thanks for reminding me of my most wonderful trip. I did cry when I left Tahiti. I wanted to stay. Actually it is owned by France so it would be difficult to get permission to stay. But if any Ponders can take a trip, I recommend going there. There are also a couple islands nearby: Moorea and Bora Bora.

Right now I am fascinated with the swimming pigs in the Bahamas. This sounds like "best fun!"

Israel- I wish everyone could go there. So much history. And we could show our support by going. I would recommend doing some reading about the history and culture before going.

Italy is just plain fun. Lots of art, lots of food, lots of architecture. Ride a gondola in Venice. Visit the Vatican. Visit the Leaning Tower of Pisa.

  7. POINTS TO PONDER: ISRAEL DISCOVERY

    By Owen Jarus
    LiveScience

"A giant "monumental" stone structure discovered beneath the waters of the Sea of Galilee in Israel has archaeologists puzzled as to its purpose and even how long ago it was built.

The mysterious structure is cone shaped, made of "unhewn basalt cobbles and boulders," and weighs an estimated 60,000 tons, the researchers said. That makes it heavier than most modern-day warships.

Rising nearly 32 feet (10 meters) high, it has a diameter of about 230 feet (70 meters). To put that in perspective, the outer stone circle of Stonehenge has a diameter just half that with its tallest stones not reaching that height."
    (snip)

"Researcher Yitzhak Paz, of the Israel Antiquities Authority and Ben-Gurion University, believes it could date back more than 4,000 years. "The more logical possibility is that it belongs to the third millennium B.C., because there are other megalithic phenomena (from that time) that are found close by," Paz told LiveScience in an interview, noting that those sites are associated with fortified settlements."

    1. Maybe it is the ruins of the Tower of Babel.

    2. Tower of Babel. Interesting thought. I hope they investigate soon and let us know. I am very curious.

  8. The Pond is such a wonderful place. Love today's picture and all the very interesting posts. The Sea of Galilee megalith is astounding. I don't understand how any of the megaliths were accomplished. They are all miracles.

Please don't get defeated by the downward spiral in our country and world. I remind myself all the time of a song I learned in Sunday School:

    This little light of mine
    I'm gonna let it shine
    This little light of mine
    I'm gonna let it shine
Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine
Every day, every way, gonna let my little light shine

It's hard sometimes. We must keep our faith and prayers going. We are the light. If the light turns off, the dark exists.

Back to today's picture. In my perfect world, I'd live in a place like that. I don't. Today's weather showed me another beautiful climate. We had thunder & lightning all night and most of the day. The ground was so warm that the roads didn't freeze. Everything more than 1' off the ground had icicles. I ran my work errands today and nearly cried at the beauty of majestic trees and lowly bushes covered in ice. The clouds thinned a little and they all looked like they were dressed in diamonds. It was majestic.

Keep the faith and the interesting stories coming, my deer Pond family.

    1. Surfie,
It takes all of our lovely Ponders to make this place our home. You are such a valuable contibutor, and we appreciate your comments and insight so much. I have been singing the song since you mentioned it. "This little light of mine..." It's in my head for today.

I have been finding so many interesting articles lately. It's nice to hear that you enjoy them.

  9. Has everyone heard about the hoax on Joel Osteen? He is taking the high road about it. NBC or ABC is making a big deal about it. Anything to ridicule and make fun of Christians and the higher profile the better. They are very foolish. The Lord gives a stern warning in 1 Chronicles 16:22. "Saying, Do not touch My anointed ones, And do my prophets no harm." To my way of thinking this means even touching them with words.

    1. I hadn't heard about this, but googled him. Imagine my surprise when I found The Huffington Post calling it a hoax. The Scriptures don't lie. Sooner or later, those who touch the anointed ones will have their day of reckoning.
