  1. Good Morning Pond Family,
Is everyone well and safe to start this week?
Here is a story from OKC tornado.

"Closet door saves woman from tornado"

MOORE, Okla. – As residents of Moore returned to their homes Wednesday, they continued to share their incredible stories of survival.

As the May 20th tornado was grinding across I-35, Nikki Alexander was racing to get inside a closet with her two dogs and a cat.

The word “scary” doesn’t come close to describing the next 20 seconds for her.

She was holding on to her pets as her home crumbled around her.

Even the closet she was in was swept away.

    So how did she survive?

The closet door fell on top of her, shielding her from the swirling debris.

“This was the door I was under, right here,” Alexander said in the rubble of her home. “This flimsy door, I mean. It saved my life.

“God basically just cupped his hands around me and looked over me while it passed through.”

Alexander said she only suffered a small scratch and said God must have bigger plans for her.

  3. Hi Sis,
I thought it was a perfect picture to start the week. I feel like a nap myself. Warm weather will do that to you. Or maybe I don't really need a reason to take a nap.

    Hi Paget,
Glad you enjoyed the story. It seemed perfect after all the bad news in OKC. Are you still having trouble with your eyes? Must be so frustrating. We'll always be here for you.

    1. Hi Froggy and Wog,

Thanks, my eyes are getting better. :) Still waiting for my contacts; knowing my doctor, he probably forgot to order them. Oh well!

  4. It is stories like the one here that gives hope. She is not shy about sharing her faith.

Paget, hope your eyes are getting better.

Once my old Dr. told me that there are few conditions that surgery cannot make worse. He told me that after I had a "minor" knee surgery.

I need a cat nap too. I have spent hours puttering around the house looking for some things that I know I have but can't find.

  5. Well Gloria,
I can't think of a better plan when you can't find something at home. Cat-naps (or frog-naps) solve all problems. If it doesn't solve the problem, there is always food.

I thought the story posted this morning showed a lot of hope and a lot of faith. It pleases me that Ponders take time to read the stories.

  6. Hate it when I write a post, then hit the wrong key and it disappears.

Love the story about the woman and her closet door. I'll tell you another one. My boss and her hubs live very close to where the tornados were breaking out. The "famous" weather guy on TV told everyone that, if they couldn't get underground, to get in their car and drive south because the storms were headed northeast. They did. Problem: the storms turned south. They were right in the path, debris flying all around them. They saw a church and pulled their car right up alongside the building. She said there was this little pocket of perfect calm. The tornados blew past while they were there in complete safety. When they started driving back home, they saw a bar a couple blocks from the church. They laughed, "If we'd seen that, we could have gone there and died happy!" Made me smile.

I realized today that I have over 90 hours of paid time off "in the bank" so I'm taking some much needed time off. Taking 3 days soon to do boring stuff like getting new glasses, my teeth cleaned, my car serviced. I'll be 59 on 9/14 and am planning a trip to San Francisco to be with my son and his girlfriend. Planning another trip over New Years to be with them again.

How's everybody doing? Praying for Deer Ponders every day.

    1. Surfie,
Just stopped by The Pond on my way to read some news, and saw your post. What a story your boss had! Just too scary. They were so lucky. Their angel was watching over them. (I say that because I believe that I have an angel.)

You certainly need some time off. It's been more than too stressful lately. How's your job holding up. It will be difficult for everyone to get back to normal.

    2. And also with you, deer Surfie.

    3. Oh Surfie, all those lovely hours of paid time off! Isn't that the greatest feeling? When Joe was filling out his retirement papers for the school district recently, there was one that gets submitted to account for all the sick days he didn't take. He gets that paid to him in a lump sum. We're not sure how much it's going to be, but it's going to be fun when the check shows up. Getting paid for being healthy. Not bad.

  7. Thanks WOG. Lovely video. Gloria, this always worked for me when I couldn't find a tool when I really needed it.... just buy another one, then mysteriously the one I lost appears exactly where I was looking for it then later on both tools would disappear.... then I would.... You know the rest of the story.

  8. Phooey,
I didn't watch the video until just now. Can't believe this lady and her pets lived through this storm. There wasn't much left of the closet door either.

Froggy's talking to me from her computer. Said we keep looking for stuff we can't find...but we know it's here somewhere. And that's why we have six hammers, extra nails, four scotch tapes, etc. And I keep buying more picture hangers because I can't find the ones I bought last week.

  9. Hello deer pond friends,

I always show up too late. Sometimes it's easier to write at night, when it's quiet. I've been trying to write for a few days but just couldn't find the right words. One more try tonight.

A week ago today, we lost a dear family friend to brain cancer. Marlys found out she had cancer just two weeks before she passed away. She was only 34. She and my daughter Stephanie, were best friends all through high school. She was over here so often, she was like a second daughter. She was a beautiful girl. Steph said she was her sweet, quirky friend. She had a style all her own, which I called "Bohemian", and she seemed to carry off just fine. Marlys was a perpetual student, and was always attending college classes. In her real life she was a waitress / bartender. She was in Stephanie's wedding two years ago. Afterwards, at the reception, we had an open bar and chaos seemed to rein. Marlys stepped right in and started bar tending, and got everything under control. She just had a knack about knowing what to do, and getting things done. It's hard to believe she is gone. To quote one of their friends, "we lost one of the good ones today, and it stings."

I came here today to cheer up. I always feel better after hanging out at the pond.

Good night and God bless. Love to all of you from Paget.
