  1. Good Morning Ponders.
Surfie beat me to the board this morning. Please, read her post at end of yesterday's comments. She is home and safe, and ready for the week.

I have a couple errands to run this morning, then I'm off on my bus ride to visit Froggy.

Hearing on news that there is a shooting in Washington DC Navy Yard. Also today killer Jodi Arias is due for court appearance. For TV fans tonight is finale of Stephen King's "Under The Dome."

  2. How is our Froggy, Wog? And, how are you holding up? Snapdragons getting love?
Uh oh, another case of work-place violence.

    1. Hi Phooey,
I "snuck" out of the room when Froggy closed her eyes. Her new roommate doesn't watch TV. Very odd to me. But maybe some people think I'm odd because I don't text on my cell phone.

I'm doing okay, just frustrated about finding a job. I should be a contract employee, then I could hand out a business card and find my own jobs.

We've been watching the news about the shooting. Froggy said that "Phooey will be watching this one" because it happened on a military base. Don't know if they caught the second shooter yet. Too many "nut cases" in the world!

Hope everyone knows that Froggy sends her love, and asks you all to be safe.

    2. Hi Phooey, Well, here they go again trying to make this shooting a reason to revisit the 2nd ammendment! I noticed that the Navy base was a "gun free zone". Interesting how these things happen, isn't it? First the Fort Hood shooting (slaughter), now this. The military should be armed. This is so sad and senseless. :(

      Hi Wog,

With your background, I would think there would be companies willing to hire you to work from home. I know here they're encouraging us to work from home at least one day a week to save on fuel, you know because we're destroying the earth with our greenhouse gases. /s

Is is possible for Froggy to get headphones or earbuds to watch TV? Over 30 years ago my hubby did that when I was studying in our small house, and he wanted to watch TV. Just a thought.

Please send Froggy our love too. I'm thinking about her and praying that she'll have a speedy recovery. :)

Eva, I also enjoy hearing about life on your island. My daughter lives on Fidalgo island in Puget Sound, and I know how much she enjoys living in a quaint area without all the big box stores.

Glad to hear Surfie made it home okay! We look forward to hearing more about your trip. :)

I need to get going. Take care everyone.

      Love from Paget

    3. Hi Paget,
But did you see the "BIG GUNS" the good guys were carrying. Looked like a Rambo movie set.

I think more and more people will work from home. Our world is changing so fast. Probably the next generation will just do everything on their cell phones or whatever they call them these days. I know medical billers often work from home.

Fidalgo Island. Can your daughter see the whales from her island?

  3. Gosh, I thought I lost my post to Paget. Whew! It's still there.

Hi Ponders, Froggy is in some pain today. I think doctor is going to increase some of them to help her more. It's a fine line between being helpful and being too much. I'll take her a cookie. That will help! Also have a box of surprises to take tomorrow.

I have nothing to do this evening but spoil myself. Going to play some games on Internet. Will watch Stephen King's "Under The Dome." For dinner I will put a slice of bread in a bowl. Then I will chop a few onions and slice a hot dog. Toss on top of the bread. Add can of chili con carne with beans. Heat in microwave. THAT'S A 'WOG RECIPE!

My picture today looks familiar. Maybe I used it before. But it is pretty and peaceful enough to post again. Goodnight All, the 'WOG is signing off.

  4. Good Morning Ponders,
Picture will stay up for today.

Don't know why I am writing this early. There's no news. I am getting an early start for the bus. What's up with everyone. News on TV is about the DC shooting and the floods in Colorado. Our friends in Colorado are safe, but there are so many people missing.

  5. Good morning on this fine Tuesday. How is our Froggy today? Hope they can get her pain meds adjusted. I am sending lottsa hugs. Stay strong Wog.

Weather is definitely changing. Plenty of rain, thunder and lightening.

Been watching some of the news. Something deep inside me thinks this is a contrived situation or at least one to be used by gun controll advocates. Tin foil hat time. I have questions. When did military bases become "gun free zones"? When did our military become unarmed? What happened to a strong national defense?

    1. Hi Gloria,
Froggy is in her group therapy, so I made a run for the computer room. It's really cold outside. Did we have a summer up here?

Military bases are "gun-free" zones? I thought I heard that wrong the other day. How stupid is that! You have to have a strong...and ready...military. That's pretty basic. What do you think about that, Phooey?

  6. Things will be normal when Froggy comes home. I know she wants to asap.

I've decided that I'm not going to assume something is going to happen just because it should... or because that's the way it always happened in the past... or even because that's how someone said it will happen. Humans always look to count on something stable and it seems as though less and less is stable now. You can't automatically count on someone's word. I used to rely on a person's word unless I personally knew to the contrary. Is it so difficult for someone to say there may be a hitch in how things are supposed to play out? Should I always disbelieve someone who says something will happen at a certain time? That's depressing.

I'm just rambling, but it seems as though I've run into more circumstances where the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing lately. Person A says one thing and Person B (from the same company) says something different. Who to believe? One thing everybody is united on: Pay me up front!

Really, when it comes down to brass tacks, these people hold all the cards. You pay them for the service and whether or not it happens on time, they have your stuff and you have to wait.

I feel better now that I've ranted. Maybe our stuff will show up tomorrow.

There is something very strange about this Navy Yard story, I think. We may find out what or we may not. One thing we know for sure: Obama will blame the GOP for all the problems in the world.

    1. I vote for your stuff to show up Wednesday! As for Obama-kins, we'll never know what he's all about. Too many secrets, too many lies, too much back-stabbing.

  7. Sure hope they are able to get Froggy's pain meds fixed. I can't stand the thought of her being in pain. Prayers anew for dear Froggy.

Eva, so wish you weren't having to wait on incompetent people. Seems that so many people these days are just a mess. They aren't paying attention, or are lazy or don't care or rely on other people who are equally lame. Sigh. When I come up against situations like that (I did on my move home), I tell myself God is giving me an exercise in patience!

I HAVE NEWS! My son called last night to ask how I really feel about his girlfriend, and that he wanted the honest truth. I think she's wonderful! Long story short, he's going to propose. We talked for about an hour about love, highs and lows of life-time commitment, in-laws and all that. I thought the previous girlfriend was the one. He never talked with me about her like he does about Lisa. Hope she says yes!

    1. Surfie, what excellent news about your son. Let us know when it's official.

The doctors and nurses are doing their best to control Froggy's pain. Just sometimes it's not quite time for the next meds to come, and she hurts while she waits. But it really is better than when she first came to the care center.

Someone told her today that she may leave in 2-3 weeks. She doesn't feel ready to come home yet. And I still need to move some stuff around in the apartment before she comes home. I think they will let her come home with a wheelchair and walker.

I have a couple news articles I wanted to post. Then I'm eating boiled red potatoes this evening. Could it be the potatoes and noodles and carbs that are keeping me from losing weight??? I just really like 'em.

  8. ELK CITY, OKLAHOMA MYSTERY CARS:

Authorities find 2 cars in lake that may solve decades-old cold cases

ELK CITY, Okla. – Authorities in Oklahoma on Tuesday recovered two vehicles from a lake that contain the bodies of five people who may have been missing for decades.

The cars recovered from Foss Lake in western Oklahoma may solve cold cases from the late 1950s and 1970. The Daily Elk Citian reported that the vehicles appear to match a Camaro missing with three Sayre teenagers since 1970 and an older Chevrolet with two Canute residents missing since the late 1950s or early 1960s.

Authorities have not identified who the remains belong to.

"It's just been under water for 40 years. It's a mucky mess," Custer County Sheriff Bruce Peoples told KWEY radio.

Authorities discovered the cars on accident. Betsy Randolph, spokeswoman for the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, said dive teams were at Foss Lake conducting training with sonar when they came upon the vehicles last week.

  9. New Jersey boardwalk fire linked to Sandy-damaged electrical wiring

The massive fire that destroyed part of a Jersey shore boardwalk and dozens of businesses began accidentally in wiring damaged in Superstorm Sandy, and should prompt coastal property owners to get their own equipment inspected for similar danger, officials said Tuesday.

The boardwalk fire in Seaside Park and Seaside Heights started Thursday in aged wiring that had been compromised by salt water and sand during the Oct. 29 storm, federal and county investigators said at a news conference. The wind-whipped blaze destroyed more than 50 businesses in the two towns.

  10. Brazil to Obama: We’re not coming to dinner

By Lesley Clark and Vinod Sreeharsha/ McClatchy Washington Bureau

WASHINGTON — Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff has scrapped a scheduled state visit to the White House amid Brazilian outrage over news that the U.S. spied on her and a Brazilian oil company.

The cancellation of the Oct. 23 visit is the first public diplomatic fallout prompted by the revelations of National Security Agency spying and represents a serious rift between the two economic powerhouses and trading partners.

    (snip)

Brazil’s O Globo television network reported earlier this month that the NSA had spied on the emails, telephone calls and text messages of Rousseff, as well as Mexico’s president. It also showed the U.S. had spied on Brazilian oil company Petrobras. The reports were based on documents obtained by journalist Glenn Greenwald, who lives in Rio de Janeiro, from Edward Snowden, the former NSA contractor who’s living in Russia. Other reports that the U.S. had conducted surveillance on Brazil surfaced earlier this summer.
