  2. UPDATE ON OKLAHOMA CAR MYSTERY:
'WOG says, "Read this story. These people and cars disappeared 40 years ago. There are a lot of pictures with this article. Where were you 40 years ago? That would be around 1973.

Sixth body discovered in decades-old cars recovered from Oklahoma lake

A 1969 Camaro hauled from Foss Lake matches the one Jimmy Williams drove before he vanished with friends Thomas Rios and Leah Johnson in 1970. Another car, a 1950s Chevy, looks Alvi Porter's ride, his granddaughter says.

  3. HAPPY-ENDING DOG STORY:

How Google Maps rescued a stray dog

The dog had been living on the streets of Los Angeles for so long, she was featured on a strip of pavement in Google Street View.

    (snip)
Local Patrick Pettinger, had named her Sonya and had begun to feed her.

    (snip)
Two days later, the rescue group's co-founder, Eldad Hagar, managed to trap her in a fenced off part of a parking lot. At first, Sonya panics, then hides under a vehicle. Then she succumbs to some affection, allows a lead to be put around her neck and then gets into a car.

    (snip)
Sonya had minor surgery and was placed on arthritis medication. Pettinger's mother, Joan, agrees to adopt Sonya and now has regular acupuncture to help with her afflictions, and is a happy, well-groomed dog.

Pettinger said Sonya was in "her forever home."

"She's so attached. She sleeps in my mum's bedroom doorway now so she can't leave without her knowing," he said

  4. Purple Heart given to WWII soldier's daughter 7 decades later

ST. LOUIS – Pfc. John Eddington was fighting in Europe in World War II when he learned his wife gave birth to a daughter. From the battlefield he penned a letter, sweetly telling the little girl how much he loved her and longed to see her.

But he never made it home, and the letter and his Purple Heart medal ended up in a box thousands of miles away from Peggy Smith, the daughter who was told nearly nothing about him.

Years after a Missouri woman found the box of mementos and underwent an exhaustive search to find the daughter who grew up hesitant to ask about her father because it upset her mother, the letter and medal will be handed over to Smith on Saturday in what figures to be an emotional ceremony in Dayton, Nev., where Smith lives.

Read more how they found the daughter on FaceBook: http://www.foxnews.com/us/2013/09/19/purple-heart-given-to-wwii-soldier-daughter-7-decades-later/?intcmp=latestnews#ixzz2fLZeaE8e

  5. Nice news stories today, Wog. Thank you! How's Froggy doing?

The 1st cool front of Fall is moving through. Cool air crashing into hot air = thunderstorms from now through tomorrow afternoon. High today was in the 90's. High tomorrow should be 74. Love it!

Yesterday was the 6th anniversary of my husband's flight into Heaven. Can't believe it's been 6 years. My emotions are all over the place. I've just had such a wonderful time with our son. I'm sad that Ray wasn't with us, didn't get to attend college graduation or see our son fall in love. But I'm also happy that Ray is no longer sick or in pain. No doubt he's sliding down the gold-paved streets in his socks. Or on a Heavenly ocean with my father. Or doing something more wonderful than I can imagine. I know he will be there to greet me when I fly into Heaven. Not anytime soon!

Love to all the Pond family.

    1. Phooey,
I thought you would especially like the WWII veteran story, and the dog story. Both stories tugged at my heart.

  7. This is a "good news" day!

Froggy is doing great. I need to get house picked up, dusted, vacuumed before she comes home. It needs to be safe and comfortable for her. They haven't picked a date for her to leave yet.

I came home to the phone call I was waiting for. AARP called. I'll be starting my part time job at Salvation Army next Tuesday. I call this my "starter job."

    1. Wog, it's nice to hear that Froggy is doing so well! :)

I love your attitude about your "starter job". You are always so positive! I swear, that's what keeps you so young!

  8. Good Morning Pond Family.
Hope it's okay with Ya'll, but I don't have time for a Friday picture. I'm just too frazzled this morning. Have just enough time to grab stuff and run for the bus.

Does anyone know what our government is doing this week? The news I hear scares me. I had to change the TV channel this morning. I can't miss a social security payment.

  9. Good morning everyone. Those stories are very up lifting.

Good news about our Froggy. Good news about your job.

Try not to think about a govt shut down. Dems use these times to put pressure on the little guy, you know - the ones who would suffer the most. It's what they do. When I think back at all the levys and bills that Dems try to pass it sets my hair on fire. Every one is a crisis. If they don't get what they want we will have no firemen, no police, the roads won't get repaired and there won't be enough teachers and the children will suffer (after all it is all about the children.)

And there you have my Friday rant.

My little grand daughter Rachel (11) is having an EKG today. She has passed out a few times while playing basketball and running track. The doc detected a heart murmur. She is sidelined till they get it all straightened out.

    1. Hi Gloria,
I am writing from care center while Froggy is in therapy. But I left my reading glasses in her room. So I am squinting at text, and hoping that I spell everything right. The government news was so bad that I had to watch the weather channel. Let us know about you granddaughter. Such a worry when your family gets sick. Sending prayers for good news.

    2. Gloria, I'm adding your granddaughter to my prayers too!

    3. Big prayers for your grand, Gloria. How frightening that must be! I was thinking about the story of Bret Baier's son's surgery yesterday and how this little boy has had so many heart surgeries already. He has such a big smile. It's so much worse on the parents and grandparents.

    4. Talked to Valerie this afternoon. Rachel is fine. No problem. Schools and doctors have to be so cautious these days because of the liability issue and I am so glad they are. Now Rachel will have to do her part and make sure she gets enough to eat and drink and not skip meals.

    5. So happy Rachel is fine, Gloria. Another bit of good news!

    6. Gloria,
Add me to the "Happy-for-Rachel" list. It must feel great to get such good news.

  10. Surfie, I remember last year on the 5th anniversary of your husband's passing. Another year has gone by and so much has happened. He knows about all the events in your life and in his son's life because you tell him. You keep him close so that he is a part of your life still. I'm sure of it. When you show up (a long time from now), he'll tell you how much he enjoyed watching over the two of you.

  11. You all have been so sweet about Ray's anniversary. I know every word you have spoken is true. It's bittersweet. Mostly sweet!

I'm so happy that Froggy is doing well. Can't wait until she gets home and feels like talking with our Frog Family.

I thought this week would drag on since it's my first week after being on vacation. It was a whirlwind and flew by. Worked from 6:30-5:00 every day and I'm almost caught up. Sure do love my job.

Speaking of jobs, hope you enjoy your new job, Wog. I thought my job was a starter job. You just never know what might happen!

The weather here has cooled down. It is wonderful to not be in a blast furnace anymore. Going to a birthday party at the Biltmore tomorrow night. I know so many people who are September babies, and we're having a group party. There will be a margarita bar! Yes, I'm having one or two. No, I'm not driving. My dear friend Karen is driving, and she is a tee-totaler.

Have a great Friday night, Pond family.
