~Remember Always~

  1. Hello deer pond friends,

Thanks, Froggy for the daily picture. I am so proud of our brave men and women, and words cannot express the love I have for all of them and our country. May God continue to bless America!

I've been lurking lately, but my thoughts and prayers have been with all of you.

Three day weekends are wonderful. I hope everyone is having a good one. It sounds like you're all so industrious! I've been working in my den/computer/craft room; trying to get it organized. I have to do that before I can start any project.

Do you remember hearing about the bridge that went into the water last week, on the I-5 interstate highway in north WA state? That is right in my daughter's neck of the woods. Anyway, a big chunk of the bridge collapsed and thankfully, everyone who went into the water was saved. It's a bridge my daughter often crosses with baby Kaden on their way to the babysitter's house! It turns out a semi-truck was going over the bridge, and hooked onto a girder that caused the bridge to collapse. I asked my dad, who is a retired structural engineer, if the truck could do that much damage and he said yes, especially since the bridge was built in 1955. Our great governor Inslee's comment was that semi-trucks should be more careful when crossing bridges! Ya think? (he is a Democrat; big surprise!) There is a good picture here. http://www.upi.com/Top_News/US/2013/05/23/Interstate-5-bridge-collapses-in-Skagit-County-Wash/UPI-80771369363842/

I have one last (hopefully!) story about my ongoing eye saga. I saw the doc a week ago, and he had me put on my old contacts. Of course, it was very uncomfortable. Still. He said, oh, your contacts are too small. Your eyelids are catching your contacts and jamming them into your eyes. You just need larger contacts. Well, big surprise there. That's what I'd been telling him all along! I said my contacts didn't fit my eyes anymore since my eyelids were pulled up, and two different doctors just ignored me. Sigh. I'm still waiting for the contacts to arrive, but I'm happy to have an answer to my dilemma. It's still a minor blip in the radar, when I consider all that is happening to everyone across the country.

Continued prayers for Oklahoma, and all of you deer ponders.

    I love you all. :)

    1. I'm so glad your daughter wasn't on the bridge! I, too, wondered if a truck could do that much damage--I didn't know. How do your eyes feel otherwise, hon? Are they healing the way you want?

      Lovies!

    2. Hi Froggy, Thanks for asking. :) Yes, it's actually my eyelids that were operated on, and they have healed. My eyes were giving me so much trouble do to eyestrain, etc. all because I didn't have glasses that were up-to-date, and I couldn't wear my contacts after the surgery. Also, I learned that I have major dry eyes, and they've been that way for quite a while. Does anyone else here have dry eye problems? When I go out into a bright day, I almost have to close my eyes completely, even with sunglasses on! I must look like Mrs. Magoo! :)

    3. I have trouble in sunlight--I thought it was because I don't go out very often. (And the sun doesn't shine here like it does in CO.)

  2. Hi Paget,
Nice to hear from you today. I looked at the link you sent. Really good pic of the Skagit bridge. Can't believe that no one was killed. Don't know how they re-route all that traffic on a major highway.

Bet you'll be so glad to get new contacts. I hope this is the solution that you need. It's been quite a challenge for you. Let us know. Remember that we are always here for you.

    Love from your Pond Family

  3. Hi Ponders. This Memorial Day I have been contemplating how the country is changing. I believe the pendulum is about to start to swing back. Some of the most moving stories are the ones about the Honor Flights that take WW2 vets back to Washington DC to see the memorial and be reunited with others that served with them. Those men are in their 80's now. Very moving.

Paget, I know what you mean about lurking. Sometimes there is so much going on that I have no words to say.

    1. Hi Gloria, lurking is okay. Froggy and I sometimes don't have much to say either. Sometimes the news is just overwhelming or too much or too sad. We just like to know that everyone is okay.

We are having a down-day at Froggy's house too. The weather has been so dreary, and today it is raining. The cat is sleeping. There's nothing on TV. There is a chill in the air. I told Froggy to go back to bed. I'm going to play some online Solitaire or Mahjong and take a nap myself.

I have been trying to get into the kitchen and make spaghetti for a couple days. I have hamburger and onions, Barilla thin noodles, and a jar of chunky Prego. So it couldn't be too hard to make.

    2. Frogs often lurk in a pond ;-) I put up a nice pic for Phooey this morning.. Happy Memorial Day--it's still too cold down here to be outside in shirtsleeves!

  4. Gosh, I've been sleepy today. Don't know why. Maybe just because it's a holiday. The TV has been full of war hero movies and I can pretend that things are still that way. When soldiers weren't hacked to death on the streets simply because they wore the uniform of their country. One of these days (and I'm afraid it'll be soon), we'll have no more men who want to defend our freedom.

Don't mean to be a downer. I'm just pensive.

    1. We love you Eva. With such bad news everyday, it's difficult to stay positive. Sometimes I put up "happy Pictures" for The Pond to give us a safe, kind, friendly place to visit.
