  1. Good Morning Ponders,
It was so much fun yesterday. I'll try to add some humor to our week when the news gets too crazy.

    1. It was fun yesterday. Good morning deer ones. Our Surfie said yesterday that she was sick as a dog. Hope you are feeling better today. Paget too. Hope getting new contacts is the answer. Prayers for both of you.

I am going with Scott this morning to an eye specialist. His vision is now so bad in one eye that they cannot correct it to 20/20. Prayers for him please.

My grandson Luke is taking his Biology final today. This has been his first year in public school. Big adjustment for him. So prayers for him today too.

Love to all my Ponder friends.

    2. Good Morning Gloria,
I'm the only one up at my house. Froggy got up early, looked at the rain, and hopped back to bed.

Hope doctors can help with Scott's eyes. Let us know. Of course we are sending prayers your way.

  2. POINTS TO PONDER:
Wog says: Is our government really meddling with tip jars! Oh, I meant to say, 'Our government is doing important work.' Here's the story...

New York's top court to decide who can tap Starbucks' tip jars

ALBANY, N.Y. – Baristas, managers and Starbucks itself put in their two cents Tuesday before New York's highest court in a tip-jar dispute that could have broad consequences for the state's hospitality workers and, ultimately, employees at the coffee chain's thousands of U.S. retail stores.

The arguments pitted low-level workers against assistant managers and the company over who is entitled to the cash tips coffee customers leave when picking up their daily pick-me-up.

A federal appeals court has asked the state Court of Appeals to interpret New York labor law and its definition of an employer's "agent," who is prohibited from tip sharing, in connection with two lawsuits against Starbucks, which allows baristas and shift supervisors — but not assistant managers — to dip into the tip jar.

The federal court is seeking answers on two specific questions: What factors determine whether an employee is an agent of the company? Does state law permit an employer to exclude an otherwise eligible tip-earning employee from sharing in such a tip pool?

    1. Hi Eva,
Don't know if everyone saw my "Goodnight, John Boy." It tickled me when I thought of it. So glad that you enjoyed the fun. I had fun doing it. Everybody's ideas gave me more ideas. Everyone seemed so depressed, I thought we should have a fun day. If it's okay with Froggy, I'll put up another "fun day" from time to time.

    2. That's funny, Wog. In the 90's, most of my co-workers were around my age. We'd often do the Walton goodnight as we left for the day. Goodnight Johnboy, goodnight MaryEllen, etc. etc. We were silly, but it was fun. Then a young intern started working there and had no idea who John boy was. We got a kick out of that, but it made me feel old! :)

    3. Hi Paget,
We had a "fun day" at the Pond yesterday. We all listed our favorite old TV shows. Then at the end of the day it just hit me: Goodnight John Boy. It was a change from all the bad news.

That was a funny story about your job. Time goes so quickly and things change so quickly. That's what I like about The Pond. We all remember the same things.

    4. Isn't she fun, Eva? Now you know how we can live almost in one room and still enjoy each other. 'Woggy makes all my days happy ones!

  4. A LOVE STORY:

90-year-old woman finds teen sweetheart’s diary in World War II museum

"A 90-year-old woman made an astonishing discovery at the National World War II museum recently: searching for a display that she thought might mention her high school sweetheart she instead found his diary, containing a note asking whoever found the book to give it to her.

“I figured I’d see pictures of him and the fellows he’d served with and articles about where he served,” Laura Mae Davis Burlingame told The Associated Press.

Instead, she ran face-to-face with Cpl. Thomas “Cotton” Jones’s handwriting, and the original telegraph informing his parents that he was killed by enemy fire.

In his last entry, Jones describes winning money gambling and suggests that he would like to wire it to Laura for Christmas. There were also numerous entries about how he wished he’d married her before leaving for the war, and a note asking that the diary be turned over to Laura if it were lost."

  5. Prayers for Gloria, Paget, Scott. How did Luke do on his test? I just have a terrible cold. I've had such bad allergies since I moved here, and think it just wears my immune system down. There are 2 people in my office that always feel just the same. I'll be glad when Spring is over!

Big T-storms rolling in right now. Supposed to have them from now through Saturday morning. The weather guys (they're pretty good here) don't think we'll have tornados. Just lots of rain, thunder, small hail. I'll be keeping my tornado-ready stuff in place just in case.

Anybody going to watch the Blake Shelton concert on NBC tonight? It starts at 7:30 Central Time on NBC. Hope they do a good job. I'm making some tilapia with garlic & capers, fresh green beans, leftover rice. Then its the concert and ... Goodnight John Boy. (GOOD ONE, WOG!)

    1. Hi Surfie...
It must be a relief to know that the weather is only rain and thunder. When we lived in Denver I always kept snow supplies in the car trunk even in the summer...(boots, gloves, blankets, granola bars, shovel, flashlight, whistles)

Froggy suffers from allergies in Seattle...nose, eyes, stuffy head. I buy several boxes of Kleenex every week.

      Goodnight Surfie. Goodnight John Boy.

    2. Surfie, remember about the Manuka honey. Good for immunity.

Luke came home and said he felt good about the test. It is one of those required by the state so he won't get the results for a while. Luke is just glad it is over. Next on the docket is Geometry.

We made it down to Kirkland for Scott's eye appt. with the specialist. Terrible traffic. It turned out good. Scott has a small slow growing cataract which he has had for at least 6 years. They did a lot of tests and were able to correct his vision in that eye to 20/60. No idea why his vision has got so bad and only in one eye. He goes back in 6 months.

I am next - I will be having the dreaded procedure Friday. I have been on the low fiber part of the diet and switch to clear liquids tommorrow.

      Say good night Gracie.
      Good night Gracie.

    3. Gloria,
Thanks for letting us know about your family. That was a long drive to Kirkland. The traffic gets all jammed up coming through Seattle.

Love the "Goodnight Gracie" One of my favorite shows as a kid.

    4. Thinking about you, Gloria. When I was at the doc's last week he reminded me I should have it done before moving away (and having to get new doctors, eto.). Just another thing on the list. I keep putting it off and I know I shouldn't. Good luck Friday.

  6. I don't mean to end on a down note, but there's some more drama going on with my sister. Her husband showed up in town this afternoon. He sent "an emissary" to my niece's house. For the umpteenth time, she told someone that her mother doesn't live there. She added that if the husband dares to show his face, she's calling the police. She slammed the door and then called my father. He came over to stay with her and calm her down.

My father & niece & great-nephew are going on a pre-planned trip to Bethesda tomorrow morning until Sunday to see some family. That's good timing for them. Unfortunately, it leaves my sister alone.

I told them I'd keep in touch with her every day and I volunteered to call and tell her that he was in town. She has gotten so much better since she's been away from him, so much stronger. Her voice got shaky when I told her, but I reassured her that he doesn't know where she is and has no way of finding out. I think he was planning on staking out my niece's house and then following her car when she left in the hopes that it would lead to my sister. Well, he's going to be disappointed in that one since she's going out of town.

The police have been informed and told what kind of car he has. I doubt he'll be able to find her. Besides, if by some chance he did, what can he do? Beg her to go back with him? It won't work anymore. She can call the police, too.
