  1. Good morning Ponders,
This picture is a positive story amidst the tornado's chaos. I thought you might feel uplifted from the story of the Garland family, their friends, and neighbors.

By Miranda Leitsinger, Staff Writer, NBC News

"OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. — A little treasure in the debris of a home that once welcomed Rebecca Garland's four grandchildren gave her such a delight as her friends and family scoured the mountain of rubble for any mementos left behind by Monday's powerful tornado.

“This is where we measured the kids' height!” she exclaimed as her son Lee held up a piece of a wall showing the rising tick-marks as his three boys and little girl grew taller and taller — her "sugars," she calls them. “Oh! Oh! ... That's priceless.”

“Little stuff like this,” said Lee, 41. “It can go in the new house.”

Such was the talk among the Garlands, their two adult children, and the many friends who stopped by on Wednesday — with brownies and cupcakes, plastic boxes and a couple of hugs and laughs — as the couple contemplated the road ahead after Monday's tornado tore apart their house, which was built by Rebecca's husband, Dan."

    1. Hi sweetie. Just hanging out today. Oklahomans are so resilient and proud.

Something weird happened. 3 years ago MIL sold her home. The agent for the buyer fell and broke his/her arm while showing the property, now is suing. MIL doesn't know about this. Her kids are handling it. The agent has been on L&I and has refused the 15,000 that the insurance co offered. Wants 125,000. This smells to high heaven.

    2. Wow, Gloria--sorry for the trouble. Sounds like he's trying to milk it.

    3. Sure does smell to high heaven. The agent sounds like a weasel. Have no tolerance for people like that. Hope MIL's kids get a good Doberman lawyer.

  5. Hi Ladies. Management removed the alligator in the pond near our apartment. It was the correct thing to do however, I rather miss it as a novelty. The bunny that we had last summer is back coming out of the wetlands during the evening when we walk our dogs. Last summer I would leave lettuce and carrots but the bunny ignored the food. I would bet except for the fact that we have dogs(they bark at anything that moves), I could train wild birds to eat out of my hand. When I was in nineth grade a neighbor stopped me one morning on my way to school and put bird seed in my hand and told me to stand still with my hand out, within a couple of minutes a bird landed on my finger and ate the seed. So what is my point? As an animal lover, the stories of love and caring for the pets and wild life from those after the tornados in Oklahoma touched my heart. Trust me, the human tragedy weighs more heavily. Love you all.

    1. Phooey, it sounds like you live in a lovely place. I would love all the wild animals.

I have a story from the Denver Zoo. Had to look it up on Internet. In 1981 an alligator escaped from the zoo and spent 28 days in a nearby pond before they could catch him. He became quite a celebrity... and had a steady supply of ducks for dinners! Denver named him Albert.

  6. We had thunderstorms, torrential rain, hail all morning. Last thing everyone in Moore and Shawnee and Carney need right now. (We had tornadoes Sunday in Shawnee and Carney, too).

Love that picture and story! I could go on and on with similar stories that I started hearing today. Now that people in some parts of Moore were able to get in to dig through the rubble, I'm sure there will be many more heart-warming stories like this in the days to come.

We're predicted to have thunderstorms on and off through Monday. Everyone just sucks it up, puts one foot in the front of the other, and keeps on keeping on.

You know what? There are a lot of salt-of-the-earth people in this world. Not just in Oklahoma. I like to believe we outnumber the whiners and weasels.

Good news! We can finally declare our years-long drought over. And I won $12 in the lottery! And tomorrow is Friday!

    Love you, deer Ponders!

    1. I have another story from Oklahoma.

"There's a happy ending to the story of a dog, found alive in the rubble after a massive tornado devastated Moore, Oklahoma: she's been reunited with her owner.

"CSO deputy searching for victims found a 12-year old Schipperke-Border Collie mix standing guard over a deceased male inside a house in Moore. The deputy convinced the dog to leave the side of the deceased victim, and eventually made sure the pup was taken to an emergency tornado animal shelter."

      (snip)
"But then, good news. The owner's sister saw one of the photos, and contacted the department on Facebook. Sheila Collins told them that the dog belonged to her brother, Curtis, who lives about a half a mile from where "Susie" was found. He'd been looking for the dog since the storm, and eventually, the two were reunited:

      (snip)
"It turns out that the person "Susie" was guarding after the storm was a stranger: Curtis has "no idea," according to the Sheriff's office, "why she stood guard of the victim whom he did not know."
