"Last one in is a scaredy cat!"

  1. Good Morning Deer Pond Family,
What's up for today? We are freezing in Seattle (brag-brag-brag). I'm staying home today.

Too much to do around the house... comb the cat, play with the cat, feed the cat... you know, the important stuff!

    1. Good morning Ponders.

I think that Wolfie is a very blessed cat to be in your house. There is no telling what his life was like BP (before pond.)

    2. Thanks for the cat-compliments, Gloria. We were lucky to find Wolfie. We (or should I say "I") spoiled all of our kitties. We are older so we found an older cat, as much as we would have loved a kitten and their playfulness.

I love the BP... before Pond!

  2. NEWS FROM THE STONE-AGE:
'WOG says: Some people just can't play nice!

Saudi princess arrested in California human trafficking probe

"SANTA ANA, Calif. – A Saudi princess was charged Wednesday with human trafficking for allegedly holding a domestic worker against her will and forcing her to work at an Orange County condominium, prosecutors said.

Orange County District Attorney Tony Rackauckas identified 42-year-old Meshael Alayban as a Saudi princess who was charged with one count of human trafficking. If convicted, she faces up to 12 years in prison.

Alayban was arrested after a Kenyan woman carrying a suitcase flagged down a bus Tuesday and told a passenger she believed she was a human trafficking victim. The passenger helped her contact police, who searched the Irvine condo where Alayban and her family were staying, authorities said.

The 30-year-old woman told authorities she was hired in Kenya in 2012 and her passport was taken from her on arrival in Saudi Arabia. She was forced to work excessive hours and was paid less than she was promised and not allowed to leave, authorities said.

  3. NEW BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY:
'WOG says: Always look for the positive! I see new inventions here: an anti-fat pill for Smartphone users...followed by a cottage industry of anti-fat-phone recipes, clubs, t-shirts, TV info-commercials. What else can we do to keep people from getting fat while they talk on the phone?

Is your smartphone making you fat and lazy?

"Were you planning on running this morning, but wasted too much time reading Twitter messages on your iPhone? When you do make it to the gym, do people give you the evil eye because you sit on a weight machine and text with a friend?

If you answered yes to either question, you may be turning into a "hyper-connected" couch potato.

According to a study published in the International Journal of Behavioral Nutrition and Physical Activity, frequent cell phone users were far more likely to forego or disrupt physical exercise and scored lower on fitness assessments than peers who used cell phones less frequently.

Though the compact size and mobility of smartphones would seem to facilitate physical activity, the ever-present lure of e-mail, text messages, Facebook, Twitter, games, Pinterest, Instagram, surfing the web, sharing photographs or talking with friends and family is having the opposite effect for some."

  4. I just don't know where the time goes! I used to be able to chime in on something every day and now 2 can go by before I can sit down long enough to post. It's not as though I'm doing anything fun to keep me busy (snort).

Today, I joined the "dentist" club. Just a cleaning, but I'm going back in August to have a crown replaced. As much as I love putting these things off, I figure it's better to do this with a dentist I trust rather than do it on my first appointment with a new dentist in New Jersey. Of course, going to the dentist here means my 90 min. trek to Santa Monica (Surfie's old neighborhood) and 90 minutes back. That just does me in. I'm such a weakling.

By-the-way, Surfie, in answer to your question a couple of days ago, Joe went to Manhattan Beach. He really likes it down there.

I'm sorry to hear of these overdoses. It seems such a waste. Gloria, for the longest time I didn't know what those green crosses meant. At the bottom of our street, I saw a sign with the green cross and an arrow showing the direction to go. That's it. I started noticing more signs around town and there never seemed to be anything other than the green cross and sometimes the words "now open". I guess you had to be "in the know".
