  1. Good Morning Pond Family,
Just a reminder to check the last of yesterday's posts. Surfie beat me to the board this morning. She has a wonderful post to start the day.

Surfie, you certainly deserve a day off! And you are doing it up right! Thanks for the reminder on NCIS. I'll be watching it with Froggy and her roommate in a couple hours.

What's everyone else doing for the holiday? Resting? Visiting? Picnics? Feeding cats or doggies?

'WOG says: Perhaps we are going about this all wrong. Why not start an "Adopt a Snail" program. We could have snail races, national snail day, etc.

Labrador retrievers help in fight against giant snail invasion in Florida

Florida officials seeking to eradicate a species of giant snails that is invading the state are training Labrador retrievers to help in the fight.

Reuters reports state agriculture authorities are engulfed in an aggressive extermination campaign to snuff out an invasion of Giant African Land Snails, one of the world's most destructive invasive species. Since the campaign started, authorities have collected 128,000 of the snails.

The species has no natural enemies and can grow as big as rats. They devour plants as well as stucco and plaster in a hunt for calcium they need to grow their big shells and can cause massive property damage, Reuters reports.

Now the dogs are being trained to aid in the fight. They will join a team of 45 people who regularly search Miami for the snail.

    1. Hi Gloria, guess I should take my own advice and check yesterday's posts.

Not sure why Froggy fell. She may have gotten up too fast or caught her foot on the edge of a box by her desk. Don't really know. She fell near her desk in the living room. Managed to pull the phone onto the floor and call 911. But the apartment door was locked.

I was downstairs watching a movie with other residents, and the fire department (medics) came in, and asked how they could get into our apt? We hurried upstairs, and Froggy was on her back on the floor. They put some kind of brace on her leg, and took her to the hospital a block away. That was Friday Aug 9. They operated next day, Sat Aug 10. While she was in the hospital, I could stay all night.

The case worker found a place in Federal Way that had an opening, and would take her. And she left on Tuesday. Supposedly she will be 6-10 weeks.

I will try to be the care giver. She should be able to use a walker by then. I can fix her a lunch if I'm working. I am looking at part time jobs.

  4. Hi All,
Heck of a week for all of us! I am taking a "day off" (Tuesday). Tomorrow I have my AARP interview at Salvation Army Thrift store. This evening I'll just relax, not worry about anything, watch TV. I watch "under The Dome" on Monday evenings.

Phooey's been dog sittin'. And Eva is getting ready for the Big Adventure!

Froggy was in group OT when I showed up today. I didn't think they had anything planned because of the holiday. She is trying so hard to do everything they ask her to do. But she still needs help with the pain.
