  1. Good Morning Pond Family,
Da Wolf got us up. I am at The Pond half asleep.

Gloria, I signed up at Group Health for $19 a month and added dental for $45, and prescription Part D. It is automatically deducted from my social security. The plan is Clear Care Vital HMO. I just checked and now it costs $43 a month plus dental which is still cheap. Here is a link to the different Clear Care Plans.

    1. Wog, I go on Medicare next March. I am on a regular insurance plan now. If I don't choose a plan through my company they will not reimburse me $50 a month for Medicare costs - so complicated. I had to find my own dental plan. It was a lot of work because I really wanted to avoid AARP. I am revisiting all the anxiety that I went through with trying to get Scott set up acouple of years ago.

    2. Gloria, I appreciate the anxiety! First enroll in Medicare, and have it automatically deducted from social security.

If you miss a payment, they will fine you and cut you off immediately for the rest of the year. Then you have to enroll again in January. The fine will be attached to your payments forever. I pay ten extra dollars (a month, a year ??? don't know) because I missed a payment.

I enrolled in Group Health because that is what Froggy had, and they had a plan for $19 a month plus I added dental care. I forgot I had dental coverage until last week when we checked on dentist for Froggy.

Group Health has a big building in Seattle on bus line, and they are attached to Virginia Mason if I need a hospital. I order prescriptions online, make appts, get test results, everything online!

      Prescriptions are cheap... $3.00 - $15 for three-month supply.

Froggy had to change plans when she went to Medicaid. She goes to Swedish, but can get her prescriptions a block from the house.

Just remember whatever plans you get...sign up for automatic payments from your social security.

First find hospital or clinic that you want to go to. Second go online and see their Medicare plans (include Part D for prescriptions). See where you can pick up the prescriptions (drugstore, QFC, Walmart, Costco).

    3. I have a lot to research. I hope I can get to some info meetings to help me make the right choice. The first year Scott just signed up for basic Medicare and decided to add to it the next year and they added a penalty for not doing it right the first time. He is the proverbial ostrich with his head in the sand. He put off dealing with it till the very last. I was the one to make phone calls and gather information. I just want it to be less stressful. I really need better dental than what I have now. I also know that I don't want to change Drs. Lots to figure out.

  2. Hi Eva,
Yes, I loved the t-shirt idea! I am always looking for a money-making idea. One idea can lead to another which can lead to a winner or lead to a business. The Internet is an amazing tool for success!

  3. PONDERING AND PONDERING:

"US Navy to drop 'rude' all-caps messages"
"The tradition started in the 19th century, when teletype machines did not have lowercase letters"

Internet users hate reading anything in all capital letters. It's the digital equivalent of shouting, a faux pas that's considered the height of online rudeness.

The U.S. Navy, however, has been communicating in all caps since the 19th century. And it's been a little jarring for young sailors especially to see capital letters used in orders and other official messages.

So the Navy is dropping all caps to make its communications "more readable and less rude," reports The Wall Street Journal -- which cheekily decided to write up the situation in all capital letters.

A Navy official told The Journal that the decision will save money. It's part of a new, cost-effective messaging system that comes online in August. "If an ancillary benefit is that sailors reading message traffic no longer feel they're being screamed at. . . that's a good thing, too," the official added.

Other units of the military still use all-caps, and other officers are hoping the rest of the Pentagon follows the Navy's example.

  4. Eva, How will you be moving to NJ? Driving? Flying?

Made me think of our trip to Seattle. We flew with three cats from Denver to San Diego. Two cats under the seat, and one in cargo. To move from San Diego to Seattle, we rented a mini van and drove up I-5. We bought three large cat carrys and lined them up on the back seat. That way each carry had a seat belt to hold it in place. I am always amazed at how many hotel/motels will take pets.

  8. Did anyone see that there are 8 counties in Colorado that want to slpit from the state and form their own state? They are serious and are persuing it. If North Colorado can be a state then why not East Washington?

    1. Gloria,
I saw the Colorado headline, but haven't read much about it. I don't know if legally counties can form their own state. I believe that Texas has the right to secede from the United States, but I'm not sure about my facts.
