  1. Good morning, ladies. 38 again this morning without wind. That's not bad. Frog on, Froggy! Frog on!

  2. It was nice to wake up to a beautiful snow this morning. It was a wet snow, so it's pretty but the roads aren't wicked. Since they are so wet, they will probably freeze over tonight. Yours truly will not be driving later.

OK, now I've seen my first snowfall since the 80's. I'm over it and ready for Spring!

On the menu later is comfort food from my OKC childhood: Chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, cream gravy, peas & carrots. I'm getting this cooking for one on a budget down to a real science.

Hope all my Pond friends have a happy, healthy, safe day!

  3. It's 51 degrees here in L.A. and gray. Not expected to go higher than 57 today. I'd rather stay home in bed with the furballs, but I'd better get going on my "to do" list.

    Have a great day everyone!

  4. I have two-cents to add...or is that a couple frog-hops to add?

Surfie, One snowfall is enough for me, too. And no snow is even better. We have rain, again, in Seattle. This is a comfort-food day! How do you make that chicken fried steak? I don't cook many things that Froggy will eat.

Phooey, we are big Stoffer's fans. Love the Lasagna too. Also the Chicken ala King and Escalloped chicken and the Baked Chicken and...

I just got up, and made myself hungry. Headed for the frig. Back later.

  5. WOG, I make chicken fried steak the cheap way. I get those cube steaks. Dip them in seasoned flour, egg wash, seasoned flour again. Fry them in a skillet with a tad of oil until they are crispy on both sides. Take them out to drain and make gravy with the crispy bits and now-seasoned oil left in the pan. Meanwhile, I make the mashed potato and frozen pea/carrot mix from a bag.

Then I have leftovers. Leftover steak, potatoes and veggies. Work those into a sandwich, fried mashed potatoes with breakfast, leftover potatoes and veggies to add to soup, etc.

Truly, I'm getting this cooking for myself down to a science! I spend about $55 a week, which includes food and household things like cleaning supplies, paper towels, etc. Then I read about people using food stamps THAT I PAY FOR buying T-bones, lobster, booze, etc. Really ticks me off. I think MOOCHELLE should do a very public instructional for people using food stamps on how to eat well, healthy, and on a budget. Won't happen, of course.

  7. I know what you mean Surf about cooking and leftovers. When I do veggies I save the water(there's usually not much) and leftover veggies.Liquid in one container, veggies in another. About twice a week I bake chicken something or other and use water to clean the pan drippins and save that on Friday or Saturday night I throw it together add more as needed and make a veggie soup for the week Add Barley and it's a stick to you soup. Want it thicker without the barley add leftover mashed potatoes. leftover taco meat becomes basis for chili etc.. it's easy enough with a little imagination. Tonight by special request we are doing an "expensive" meal Sloppy Joe's made with ground turkey, potato buns and chips. Why expensive you ask? well it's mostly pre-made.

  9. Oh, I'm sorry I missed the hop! I've been on the phone all day with DHSH, Medicaid, and some other dept. I don't even know the name of. My doc wants me to have pulmonary tests and they won't pay for at Group Health; he won't keep me on Spiriva without 'em, grrrr. I say use whatever lets me breathe and get on with it, but I have to find a provider. Luckily we live right next door to Virginia Mason hospital, so maybe they'll do 'em. The girl was supposed to call me back but she got too busy today. Then, I have to call pattient accounts and make sure of whatever she tells me , so we don't get billed for it. Whew!

The 'Wog hurt her back again--bent over and it seized right up. I've been taking care of her (That means feeding her.)

Hey, where's our Gloria? I miss her like crazy! Anybody know?

I'm thinking of you, Phoo! Smooch!
